My daughter was visiting from Texas, where she is in school, and where a dentist and Periodontist had made unnecessary and urgent recommendations regarding root canal/removing teeth/transplants. Thankfully, her dentist in Pittsburgh referred us to Three Rivers Endodontics! Dr. Zhang was awesome! She took her time, reviewed images, and truthfully explained that there was nothing that needed to be done at this time because her images hadn't changed since 2018. It was a huge relief for us to hear this news. Three Rivers Endodontics are amazing, I developed sudden, severe tooth pain over a few days to a point where I couldn't eat or sleep. It was excruciating. I called and got an appointment with Dr Palya faster than expected. The admin took time to explain how office works, pulled general info on possible procedure and provided estimates even before I showed up. Dr Palya and her team took such good care. After diagnosing, she took time to explain procedure and what to expect. She and her assistant worked well together. They were both kind, gentle, understanding of my pain level and ensured the procure would be pain free. It was... pain free. It's now about 8 hours post procedure, the numbness has worn off, I have some expected soreness but no pain and best of all my tooth and surrounding area feels like it's back to normal. Hard to say I enjoyed getting a root canal, but I actually enjoyed getting a root canal here. I was experiencing pain when chewing and my dentist referred me to Three Rivers. They originally didn't have any availability for 2 weeks, but they called me back and informed me that they had a cancellation the following day. Being impatient, I jumped on the opening. My appointment was at 2pm but I received a text message from them letting me know that they were running ahead of schedule and could take me early. After a few minutes of questions and testing, they recommended a root canal and did the procedure during the same visit. Dr. Palya was fantastic. She was gentle, patient and answered my questions thoughtfully. She explained what she was doing every step of the way and I really didn't experience any notable pain. Let me sum this up by saying, stop looking at this review and choose three rivers endodontics for your root canal. I came across Three Rivers Endoodontics after going back and fourth with my dentist trying to find a provider in my network. I work for a company that's out of state so it's really tough for many offices to understand my insurance because it's not a brand name that's around here. They have affiliated networks they work with but the provider just generally don't understand that when calling. I called and spoke to at least 4 offices to have my root canal done. When I contacted Three Rivers Endodontics they knew right away they took my insurance. The process to get scheduled was effortless. They were extremely clear with the cost. They even made sure I was able to afford that cost and offered some options if I wasn't. When I went in for my root canal I was extremely anxious. The most anxious I've ever been going to any dental office. This tooth has a cavity drilled by my primary dentist but then it turned bad and was a root canal. At the dentist it was extremely painful. I found out later thanks to the amazing staff that it was because how deep the root and infection was in my tooth. I met the office staff and I had filled out paperwork from online. They were excited I was able to print and complete. As I went back to my procedure the assistant started to become my new best friend. In only a few seconds we are already chatting like I was going to have lunch with a friend. As she got everything setup she was so friendly and we just enjoyed chatting. The part I love is she would stop chatting at some points and casually mention what she is doing. This eased my anxiety so well. As the doctor came him he was extremely cheery. Again, a new instant friend. Since my tooth was so infected and the root was so deep. It took almost two hours to complete the produce. Just like the assistant the doctor was casually chatting with me and mentioned what was going on. He constantly was making sure I was doing okay as well as the assistant. As everything wrapped up he gave me very clear instructions and expectations. A few weeks later I feel my tooth and my filling has fallen out. I thought to myself, "this tooth is such a nightmare." I called Three Rivers Endo and left a message since it was after hours. They got back to me promptly but I missed the call as I work in IT and often can not answer the phone. I called back Tuesday at 3:21 pm even though I noticed the Shadyside office was not open. To my surprise as I was getting ready to leave a message someone picked up. The Moon office answered the call. The employee on the other end of the phone quickly address my issues. First was about the filling. She got me in the next day at 10a and she even was able to offer a bunch of times between 10a and 2p. I arrive to get this temp filling out back in place thinking I'm going to be spending a solid 30 minutes. Nope. I walked into the office and again started chatting with the office staff like I was out to lunch with friends. Less than 15 minutes later I had more filling put into place. Clear instructions and reassurance. As I'm walking out the doctor is walking past and she points him out and he cheerfully asks how I am doing and made sure I was set to go. I have a slew of chronic medical issues and often that throws small offices in the medical field that see patients for highly specific special field do not fee comfortable with my medical history. Even though the temp filling involved no injection or drilling just the filling she checked on the medicines I was taking just to be sure. Not only do I appreciate that they are doing things safely I can confidently say this is absolutely one of the best medical providers in Pittsburgh. Dr. Sumei Zhong Sharma was terrific -- clear in her explanations and focused and thorough during the procedure. She's also a good mentor to the assistant. Sitting for a root canal is a good reminder of how people in their 20s (like the assistant) struggle to keep their focus on one thing. Their need for constant stimulation is real. Dr. Sumei Zhong Sharma did a great job of keeping her assistant on task without shaming her. I hope that the assistant realizes that she is being mentored and is being offered a model to follow. The staff as a whole brings a good vibe to the office -- you can sense the little tremors of gossip and conflict that come with any dental office, but overall the focus is on the patient having a good outcome. read more
