I had hoped Three Dollar's move to a new location across the street would provide a fresh start, however unfortunately both the food and the service were off. The new building was nice enough - tons of seating, murals, and ATL memorabilia hung on the walls. The service however was rough. We saw our server twice: once to take our order, second to bring us the check. She never checked on us to ask how our apps and entrees came out, nor to refill our waters or ask if we needed anything else. I gave it three tries and really tried to like it. The bartenders are nice, just like they were when the café was across the street at the older location. And I understand that when you lose your lease, you have to relocate. That would be fine, but the owner has drastically changed the character of the place by making it extremely bright inside, even at 11 PM. There are overhead lights that are almost blinding. There is more than sufficient light from all of the TVs and neon beer signs. There's no reason to make people wear sunglasses inside. This change totally alters the character of the place. It is no longer a familiar neighborhood bar, but a bright, extremely well-lit chicken wings place. When I was sitting at the bar one night after 10 PM and chatting with a couple of other guys at the bar, a guy I did not know remarked that it made him feel like he had entered "an interrogation room," and some FBI agent was going to shine a light in his eyes and tell him they knew he was lying. If the owner wants it to be bright inside, that is fine -- up into a point. But I sure would turn off those overhead lights at night when it turns into more of a bar than a restaurant. The owner also seems to want to close early and holds last call at 11:30. I guess he wants a it to be different kind of place. It is. I sure would like someone else to open a dive bar in the area -- because we no longer have one. It would be poetic justice if the greedy landlord who kicked out the three dollar café could not find a new use for the property and had to lease it again to a bar owner who wanted to reprise the old familiar feel of the Three Dollar Café. I've only ever eaten delivery and carryout from Three Dollar Cafe, but I've eaten a lot of it, a whole lot. I am a huge fan of their buffalo shrimp and second in line are there wings. I also like their chili and salads. The shrimp are good-sized, well-cooked, and full of flavor. They offer a handful of flavors, wet and dry. I usually order mango-habanero (wet) and Caribbean jerk (dry). The shrimp are lightly breaded and well fried and coated. If anything, for some, they might be a bit greasy, especially the dry rubbed ones. The same goes for the wings which are well-cooked and sometimes just a bit dry. The chili is richly flavored and served with diced onion and cheddar to top it off. The salads are served in good portions with fresh greens and dressing. The toppings and add-ons are traditional. Orders hold up well for delivery or on the way home with a carryout. The place is dive-ish. This is near where I stay when I'm in Atlanta, so I'll probably stop in to eat when the weather is cooler so I can check the vibe. read more

We were seated by the hostess who clearly couldn't care less that she put us at a dirty patio table. I asked for the one next to it and she said fine but left us to move the menus and silverware. Fine. We then waited for about 15 minutes for no server and left. When I said something g to her she shrugged. I asked for the manager. They just moved to a new location across the street. Interior looks great! Service not so much. Had to wait about 20 minutes for a table - not bad. When we ordered, server said the kitchen was "a little behind". Took 20 minutes to get water. After and hour and 15 minutes, we asked the server to check on the food. She became argumentative and said "I told you that the kitchen was behind". At this point, most tables had emptied. Food came after an hour and 35 minutes. Several orders were wrong but we didn't chance trying to get it fixed. Burgers were cold. Steamed veggies were basically raw. Had to get our own silverware and to go containers. Manager seemed unconcerned. They have a lot of work to do. Host and serving Staff need training on how to talk to customers. read more

The food here is to die for, I love the hot wings. Everything on the menu is delicious and great tasting. I come by after church on Sundays and Jen is the best bartender by far. The staff and management are so friendly and attentive. They have bar, table and open patio available for seating. Trust me when I say you can't go wrong when dinning in or dashing out. Kai had the Nachos Mountain that was huge for a half size portion. They should have used Nacho Cheese for the chips though. The cheese they used didn't melt really. This establishment is known for their wings and the wings are definitely worth checking out. The rest of the menu is good, as well and prices are competitive. One complaint was that their cheesesteaks had the onions sliced too big and thick, which had an overpowering quality to the meat. When I lived in Philadelphia, I became somewhat of a cheesesteak snob and like it when they fine dice the onions and incorporate that (as well as the cheese) into the steak giving it a more unified and consistent cheesesteak. But I also understand this ain't Philadelphia and not all places do it that way. You might like it this way, I just like how it was done in the City of Brotherly Love. This location is just one location of a business that has spread throughout the Atlanta area. I believe they are up to about ten locations. Not bad for a business to grow to so many locations and an indicator that they are doing something right. The atmosphere is good and the vibe is pretty cool. I ordered the steak and cheese sandwich as an entree. It was okay, nothing to rave on about. My lady ordered the fried grouper sandwich and thought the same ("it was good, not great"). The service was just okay too. As for the environment, Im not a big fan of the overall location and look of the restaurant. I have come in here every Tuesday night with my soccer team for the last 3 years and the service is "OK" at best. Today I came in with my service dog for lunch and the owner told us she wasn't allowed and was EXTREMELY rude. She is a 20 pound mini golden and is trained. Keep in mind he has let us in about 15 other times and we always sit on the patio. I asked I I could show her papers and registration but he didn't care and frantically told us to leave. She is a registered service dog, this is illegal and a necessity in my day to day life. read more

I had ordered food to go around 9:30 pm and when I got home I only ate half, the next day I decided to eat the other half and when I opened the sandwich to reheat it there was a cockroach in the sandwich. I had gone back to speak to the manager and the manager kept denying that they had no cockroaches in the restaurant but clearly you see the cockroach squished. Manager was so rude about it and told me that next time I should've called and if it happened again he wouldn't not do anything about it. Horrible customer service he provided.
