I have been going to the Three Brothers off Stella Link since I started walking. I was thrilled when I found out they were moving to my neighborhood. Sadly it's a bust. The frosted cookies I would get as a kid are almost $8 each.... Seriously? For a cookie? The cinnamon rolls could not be any dryer (see my picture). They are the size of my head but completely a waste of calories. They have nothing in them, they are not gooey or delicious! They are just dry and old! The seeded rye is amazing as always and so are their cupcakes and danish. The Challah bread... Amazing! The staff....wow... The WORST! Not friendly, not helpful, inconvenienced by your presence, and many times the bread slicer doesn't work or they don't want to be bothered. It makes me sad. I have wonderful childhood memories of the older men who ran the Stella Link locations and all the fantastic cakes they had on display. As a child I was always allowed to get a frosted cookie, Ninja turtles was favorite even as a little girl, now you need a loan to buy a cookie! I wish it was like it was in the 80's... read more

I started coming here for special occasion treats after a co-worker bought the jumbo cupcakes for a birthday celebration which I was thoroughly impressed with. I typically frequent this place the moment they open in the mornings (to pick up my order before heading into work) and when I have, the staff are usually really friendly for 7:00 AM. However, this day was an exception! I think the openers woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I ordered half a dozen assorted jumbo cakes for my friend's work anniversary and was excited to see the final product. As I walked into the store, there was a bald man with glasses stocking the breads who didn't even bother to look up to acknowledge me, and the girl near the coffee press may have said good morning but it was inaudible whatever came out of her mouth. My order was brought out and shown to me, and I was sorely disappointed with the presentation. The cupcakes were thrown into this tiny box in any which way and the counter guy, Dre, could see the disdained look on my face. I specifically wrote in the message section of my online order that it was for an anniversary celebration and if there was any way they could fix up the box to look nice. Guess that was overlooked in the order! Dre immediately took the box to the side and said he would rearrange them into a bigger box. When he came back I was completely happy with how he fixed the order. The only positive thing that came out of this experience was the customer service Dre provided. For my grandparents' 60th anniversary I ordered a recreation of their wedding cake. With only one picture of part of the cake, Three Brothers was able to make the most beautiful cake. Not only was it so amazing and close to the original, it tasted even better! Everyone at the party was raving about the cake! I have been here before for Chocolate Chip cookies. They were more like cookies with a couple of chocolate chips in them. I thought maybe I got a bad batch or it was an off day and I understand that these things happen. I stopped by today with my wife for another try. She ordered a Caramel Latte $4.00 and we shared some cookies. Again, the Chocolate Chip $1.75 only had a few chocolate chips in it, not even one in every bite, the same for the Black & Tan cookie. The Snicker Doodle $1.95 was dry and crumbly with no hint of cinnamon, not my idea of a good Snicker Doodle. My wife said her Caramel Latte was the worst, bitter and no caramel taste. I will probably still go back because a mediocre cookie is still better then no cookie! For the amount they charge, I expect more then just flour and sugar. read more

Very good but very pricey. The icing cooking is actually $7. $7 for a cookie??! My son wanted chocolate milk and they poured a shot of vanilla syrup in it. No 4 year old is searching for the best high class chocolate milk. Best to have options for kids of all ages, especially at a bakery. The restaurant itself is very modern and lacking a homey, comfortable vibe. When I get something tasty I want to sit back and relax in a comfy chair and enjoy every bite, but the chairs and couch reminded me of a dentist waiting room. I'm still thinking about the black and white cookie though, so although this place has some faults, it hit the nail on the head where it counts. read more

Good: Love the mocha cake. It's absolutely one of the best cakes ever. Service is usually fantastic and friendly. Bad: Almost without fail every time I'm here which is frequently the music selection is THE WORST and as I write this, the song playing right now is, Talk Dirty To Me. I've twice asked them to change the station....it was that bad. Additionally, often times what is showing on the tv is inappropriate. In the middle of the day a few days ago it was an Ultimate Fighting Match in which two men were kicking the heck out of each other and the music playing was techno club style music. I'm not a bakery owner but if I were I think I would have something more pleasant to listen to and watch. But what do I know. I'm sure I'm just not "hip" enough? This review is for their bagels only. If you seek a great New York-style bagel with a glossy sheen and lots of dense chewy goodness. Do NOT come to Three Brothers Bakery. I had the jalapeno bagel, toasted with butter. It was an ersatz bagel. It had the shape and color of what a true bagel should, but it had the texture of wonder bread. I was so disappointed. Look, if you want a white-bread baked 'donut' then you'll love this, but I wanted the toothsome bite of strong gluten and yeasty goodness. And as for the 'jalapeno' flavor...I think they waved the dough by a jar of jalapenos before baking. There was no evidence of diced jalapenos in the bagel and only the slightest hint of jalapeno heat. What, are they adding? Is it essence of jalapeno only? The staff were nice and efficient but not enough to make up for my disappointment. I hope this is not indicative of the rest of their offerings. read more

I had a very negative experience with Three Brother's. Placed my order for a coconut cream pie for our Thanksgiving gathering and when I went to pick it up on Wednesday afternoon they didn't have my order. Of course that was frustrating but then to have them not offer a solution was worse. They claimed I was not supposed to be able to order the day before even though I went in and ordered it filled out the form and was told to pay at pick up. I even saw my name hand written at bottom of pick up list. I would be very hesitant to special order from this bakery again. We had no coconut cream pie this year and it's my favorite. read more

I don't usually go to bakeries that often but I had an impulse after the barber came in munching on a bag of tasty looking cookies. He mentioned that they make some kind of Jewish cookie that he loved and that they made them year round. Apparently they are usually seasonal. I love trying new stuff and I just had to stop by. The first thing I want to say it how rediculously perfect the service was. The girl behind the counter could have come straght from a sales textbook. She was smiling, knowledgable, and spoke in a tone that just welcomed you into the store. The cookie I came in to get, called a Hamentashen, (just looked it up on google) is folded in to a triangle to form a small pocket that is filled willed with fruit, chocolate, or other kind of filling. It was not a soft fresh filling, but a harder sort of candy filling. I found that I was not that big of a fan. The chocolate was one of my favorites because it went very well with the dry sugar cookie like.. well, cookie. I poured myself a glass of milk to go with it, which made it 10x better than plain. The cookie itself is just to dry to eat without a drink. That's probably why the sell coffee, which would go great with it by the way. The cookie itself has a very light sweetness to it that reminds me of a drier, denser sugar cookie. I also asked for a recommendation and tried the pecan bar, which is a sort of pecan pie filling (much less goopy and more dry - which I really liked), on top of a crust, and then dipped in chocolate. I think I would have enjoyed it much more without the chocolate, as the bitterness of the chocolate didn't go verywell with the other flavors. read more

Since the first phone call I made to this bakery, I was doomed for disaster. Like seriously, I asked for a quote on my cake, was told to expect one within 30 min - 1 hour. I waited four hours and heard nothing, then I decided to follow up. The RUDE lady on the phone said, "well what do you expect, we need at least a day and we always check the emails at the end of the day." As desperate as I was for a nearby bakery, I didn't argue. Then when I got my quote, I called them back to see how I should proceed in regards to making a down deposit or paying in full. The RUDE lady again was snappy with me asking me rude questions like, "The cake picture you sent me said 'Class of 2011' are you sure?". And I told her it was just an example I want to go off on, and told her it should be worded exactly how I drew it out for them on the email. Plain and simple answer, I didn't expect their to be confusion. Then she asks me the EXACT same question two more times and I decide to straight and say 'No' to avoid any confusion, then she rudely states, "Ugh, I'm just gonna let you talk to my manager." Then I finally get to meet her when I make my down deposit. Home girl was trying to clock out and push a task she had to do on a kind employee that was helping me. She RUDELY interrupted me twice, second time I just gave up and let her speak, as she was trying to explain how she needed to clock out and how he needed to take over her project. Cake review: The design was disappointing. I clearly typed in the email how I wanted it exactly to be like an eye chart (letters that gradually get smaller like an eye chart). I even read their notes to do that, and I ended up picking up a cake that wasn't anything like the picture. I literally decided to not go to another bakery because they couldn't offer me that, and it was half the price too. Then, call me picky, but they were suppose to write it they way I wanted it. (Ex. Dr DOT C DOT Nguyen) instead they were letters all jumbled up. I asked desperately for a sprinkle or a chocolate chip or something to replace those dots but nope. Nothing. They tried but if it was done correctly.....then I wouldn't have to worry about it. Not only that the letters looked like they were running off the cake. Couldn't they have made the letters smaller?! Oh wait....it's all the same size letters...... The cake itself was too sweet for my taste, but nothing to hype about. I would've loved the cake more if it was to my specification, especially when I paid THAT much for it. I wouldn't return to this establishment as the service, even from past reviewers, is not where it should be. Not only that, the prices were steep! The basic flavors were a set price and to make it red velvet for a 1/4 sheet was an additional $70. Seriously!? Bye. read more

AMAZING custom cakes!!! We found a photo of a very elaborate Mad Men themed cake for a birthday party and we asked Three Brothers to duplicate the cake for us. It wasn't cheap, but the cake ended up looking EXACTLY like the very specific / elaborate photo I sent in to them. I have no idea how they did it, but it was perfect and everyone at the party was VERY impressed. I don't know what it's like to be a customer in their store...I did everything via phone and email and just went to pick the cake up on the day of the party...so I cannot comment on their in-store pastries or customer service. To me this bakery is nostalgic. I worked at the braeswood location when I was 19...that was in 2004. It was my first real job. I was a apprentice baker, and here I learned the meaning of big volume. Growing up, I had every possible pastry and bread that this bakery made. My mom worked for Jewish families, and they would always give her anything from Challa to cookies to cakes to rugelach to Hamantaschen. You can taste the passion.
