I had to reach out on Instagram to contact her and get an updated phone number. I then started reaching out to her via text for the follow up appointment, she kept telling me she was busy and try back next week. It is now December and I still don't have a follow up appointment. She continues to give me the runaround she could just say she's not going to complete it and let me go to somebody else, but she's been stringing me along for the last four or five months. I would not go to this woman for anything. I paid for her initial fee and tipped her very well and I feel completely disregarded by her. She is not a good business owner, she's not invested in her clients and she did a terrible job on my eyebrows, I have sent her pictures showing her that I needed follow up. I'm so glad she has packed up and left Fishtown. I would not schedule new client appointments with her. She is a negligent business owner and did not do a good job on my brows.

I grew my hair out super long for my wedding and basically didn't get it cut for 2 years, needless to say it was long, damaged, and ratty looking. Enter: Ovations. I actually made an appointment through email since they are closed on Sunday/Monday and I wasn't able to call to make an appointment. They were able to fit me in on Tuesday at 5:30 right after work, which was perfect. The salon is very clean, neat, and chic. When you walk in, you are offered wine or water. :) I opted for the first-time guest wash, cut, dry for $30 (which is a steal!). Kim was my stylist and she did a bang up job on my long, thick, Asian hair! She was so sweet and professional. I asked to take off about 5 inches, angles in front, and texturize at the end and it came out perfect! My hair is back to life! When I left, I was given Kim's hours and a few coupons for future visits. I will definitely be returning. It was such a wonderful experience. I feel like a new person!

So even though Irene failed to introduce herself, didn't listen, and cut my hair in grim silence aside from a few oddly hostile remarks, I trusted that she'd give me a competent bob. She did not. When she handed me a mirror to check the back, I was shocked. It looked like I'd been run over by a lawn mower. There was no shape and no volume; I could do (and have done) a better job on myself, in the dark with manicure scissors. They comped the whole experience, most likely so I wouldn't write this review. Three hours later I found another salon to give me a pixie. The rescue stylist confirmed that Irene's hack job was every bit as bad as I thought. I now have MUCH shorter hair than I wanted, but at least it looks intentional.

Irene understands hair, listens, is great with feedback, talks you through the process and is overall a great conversationalist. I enjoyed some wine as we chatted about what my hair goals were and she absolutely gave me the haircut and color I asked for. I waited a couple of days post cut to report back on my experience to see how it was after I washed it- it's absolutely perfect, the hair cut, the color - I'm in love with how I look, I feel like we brought back my natural color in a dynamic way and the cut is easy to style. What was really genuine was Irene's candor about the process. She told me if I had any issues in a few days to let her know and we'd work it out. That is a true artist and stylist. I highly recommend Irene. The space is also really beautiful at Plume, one of the nicest salon bathrooms I've ever seen. I felt welcomed and really enjoyed my experience.

I spent months looking into into IPL and seeing how it would react with other skin products that I use. I decided to make an appointment for IPL, however, I then found out I had an interview 3 days after my appointment so I emailed the place to see what their thoughts were. I got an email stating that it wouldn't be a good idea because my face would be darker before falling off, which I already knew so I agreed as well. I decided to just come for a consultation and a facial. When I got there, Maxine was very confused as to why I was there. I explained it to her, and she said that I could still do IPL. I was nervous. I showed her every single product I was using on my face and all it's ingredients. I told her that I was nervous about IPL because of my interview and she insisted that my face would actually look better rather than worse because she did not feel that I had much hyperpigmentation. She also went ahead and said " I met people like you before" making fun of the fact that I actually do my research and get nervous about procedures on my face. I don't know about you but this is a normal way to react to your own face! My face was burnt-- first degree burn. I sent pictures to Maxine the next day and she said " I didn't anticipate for your face to be sensitive". She then wanted to give me a " calming facial" but told me to come that day. I couldn't come. She was also closed Sunday and Monday I believe because the nExt day she offered to as Tuesday. I don't live in Philadelphia, and I had to go back to work- and last time I checked, facials don't cure first degree burns. She then sent me some hydroquinone for my face to my house to use-- 2%. This is something you can just get over the counter. This Wasn't anything special. She doesn't offer any money back, no refund, no nothing. I basically paid almost 200 dollars to add dark spots to my face and burn my face. I don't recommend this place to anyone. It's just throwing your money away.

The table you lay on for the lash & brow work is so cozy, as soon as I was given a blanket I was set. Originally I intended to get a set of lashes installed but after Izzy and I talked and my brows/lashes were looked over, we decided a lash lift and brow lamination were more my style. I figured they'd work perfectly with my weekday lazy girl makeup routine. The entire appointment was great, we chatted, I was given some much needed advice on how to start my brow grow out journey and what products can help with it, and got to learn a bit more about what the salon offers. In chatting I learned that the salon's been open for about two years and she participates in class pass, which is always a huge plus these days. She cares about making you look your best & made sure to give me an idea of what to expect at the start. I really appreciated that we talked before she started because once I got cozy, I wouldn't have been fully listening and fighting sleep. This surprises me but the appointment was actually so relaxing. I'd love to go back and see what other beauty treatments I can nap through. The space itself is super cute and has room for multiple services. There are private treatment rooms and a more open space currently for lashes & brows. The prices listed on the services menu also looked super reasonable to me - pro-tip: at home lash lifts don't go well (trust me), skip the DIY and treat yourself. This is also the gift that keeps on giving because for the foreseeable future I'll be a few steps ahead of my makeup routine :) 'll share a better brow/lash pic, but other examples can be found on her Instagram. Can't wait to see what else Izzy can do!
