Absolutely Terrible Experience - Avoid Thompson & Boys LLC at All Costs!…read more I contacted Josh Thompson, the owner of Thompson & Boys LLC, and my first interaction was incredibly unpleasant. I explained that I don't have a lot of money right now, so I wanted to start slowly and just do one room at a time. His immediate response was to ask if I could put the job on a credit card. When I told him that I didn't have any credit available due to being on short-term disability since December, he made an extremely inappropriate comment, suggesting that I "learn how to paint myself." This kind of comment was not only rude but completely unnecessary. Despite this, I decided to continue and explained that I had tried painting the house myself 25 years ago when we first moved in, and it ended in disaster. His response? Another snarky remark. At this point, I was already regretting contacting him, but I pushed forward because I still needed the work done. Next, I sent him pictures of the small room (about 10x11 feet) I wanted painted. He said it would take 3 days to finish due to drying time, which seemed completely excessive for such a small room. When I asked him for an official estimate, he texted me a breakdown of $1,600 for labor and $400 for materials. This is absurdly high for one tiny room. I also asked what kind of paint he would use, and he listed "cashmere, superpaint, or emerald" for the walls, and "Emerald Urethane" for the millwork. He stated he would need 3 gallons of tinted primer, 3 gallons of paint, and 1 gallon of urethane. When I mentioned that four years ago, I had paid $6,000 for my entire 1,390 square foot house to be painted with two coats and some minor repairs by a reputable company, Stephens Painting, he responded in the most rude and dismissive way possible: "Let's not waste each other's time. I painted an entire house for $17,000. Material alone was $3,500 for 2,200 square feet." His response completely blew me away, and I couldn't believe the audacity. I was not trying to compare costs, just giving context that I had worked with a professional company before, and his pricing seemed wildly inflated. This entire exchange, from his rude remarks to his outrageous pricing, was just too much. I had more work I wanted done, but at this point, I wouldn't trust him with anything in my home. I will be sharing this review on every platform I can to warn others about his over-the-top pricing, his lack of professionalism, and his rude customer service. I don't want anyone else to go through the same frustrating experience I did. Avoid Josh Thompson and Thompson & Boys LLC at all costs. His poor attitude and ridiculous pricing make it clear that he does not value his customers.

We cannot say enough good things about Mike Cusack and we are so glad God provided him to be our…read morebuilder. Mike met with us and with Steve, the architect, on the lot for the house even before we had purchased it. From the beginning he held our hands as we navigated getting the land plotted with the City of Dallas (not an easy process which took almost a year!) and then guided us to a Steve for the architectural drawings. He arranged multiple meetings with subcontractors to work out the details of the house. Mike is a second-generation home builder and general contractor with more than 30 years of experience. He built homes in Tennessee with his father before moving to Dallas, so he was unfazed by the large hill where we were planning on building our future home. It was clear from the first conversation that Mike knew what he was doing and could anticipate future problems that might arise with the complexity of building a house on the side of a hill. He was extremely patient with us as we worked through the legal process of platting in the City of Dallas. He was patient with us when we had to change the design of the house to make it work with our budget. He thought of every possible detail and his master budget was so detailed - it must have been over 8 pages of line items because he wanted to give us an accurate budget. Once we broke ground, he was pretty much at the house every day. He did a marvelous job supervising the subcontractors and made sure each contractor did the work to his exacting standards - which many times were far and above what we even expected of some of our subcontractors. If the work was not done right he made the contractors do it again properly. Probably the best example was the cabinets that were made for the house. We thought they looked fine when they were all finished but Mike noticed that several of the cabinets had small dents in the cabinet doors. We didn't think we had it in us to redo those cabinet doors but Mike said he couldn't live with himself if he did not get them fixed. He met with the cabinet maker and the painters and he had them remake over a hundred cabinet doors and then had the painter stain and finish them - all at his expense. I think there are very few builders that have this level of integrity because he takes pride in his work. From the beginning it was clear that Mike was competent but over the course of the past two and half years what struck out most to us was the level of integrity and desire to do the work right that typified Mike. Every time we met an obstacle with the build, Mike was already thinking up multiple options to fix the problem. My wife had always said that she did not have the bandwidth to live through a custom home build but Mike made this possible. We had looked at many homes to find one that would work for the unique needs of our family - mainly a place to raise up 10 children and homeschool them and we found that even though there were multiple large homes in Dallas - few are designed to accommodate the needs of a large family. In retrospect, this process would not have been possible without the incredible hard work and dedication of Mike and his team.
