It was a Thursday night and we had driven out to Margate to see some old friends of ours and catch up over dinner. Upon their suggestion, we all met up at The Golden Ox for the much raved about steak night. When we arrived, because none of us made a booking, we were forced into the bar to wait for a table. We ordered a round of cocktails that were reasonably priced and when tasted exceeded our expectations. After twenty minutes we were able to take our table amongst a bustling and lively room of patron. In the background a pianist performed classic covers for our enjoyment. Be it Steak Night, we all ordered the $37 special that included a main and desert. When the mains arrived out and we began to eat. We all agreed that even without the desert, the steak, potato mash and greens were worth way more than what paid for. When the desert came out we ate till we couldn't eat anymore. The Golden Ox is definitely a place where the worship of steak should be condoned.

The meals were all very good, the salad seemed to have a few too many flavours (just saying...). The wine selected was definitely a great match with the food. The staff started out a little tentative, but they were training a new girl at the same time. I think they warmed up to us after the entrees were served and then became quite fun. Very dry sense of humor, which can be difficult for some - not us. The birthday girl was given a sparkler and shot at the end of the meal... Not 100% on the appropriateness given she was turning sixty-something, but a nice touch. (Maybe it was confused with one of the guys?) The worst thing about the meal was the coffee at the end (only because we're all coffee addicts). I'd strongly recommend they change their bean supplier... But without the coffee, it was an excellent evening.

We chose to sit outside facing the water which was nice. I ordered the chili scrambled eggs and added grilled tomato and bacon. I was skeptical at first because I like heat but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the feta & I'm happy I added the bacon & grilled tomato but it would have been fine without as well. My partner ordered the big breakfast and we both had more than enough to eat - he said it was delicious as well. We were surprised it wasn't busy when we showed up, however by the time we left it was picking up quite a bit. We stayed to enjoy our coffees, and we liked it so much we decided to book dinner reservations for this weekend as well.

Very very cold- eating rugged ip in coats and under blankets they provided- like refugee camp. Had to ferry our tables drinks from the bar (why at these prices are there not enough servers?). Most of the Food was good but the menu is VERY limited (ie fish and chip is only battered). Had to order a side of veggies if you hoped for some and the small quarter of a potato was rock hard undercooked, a sliver of pumpkin and few green beans- like austerity rations.

The takeaway is quick with their service and the seafood is always fresh. I've never had to wait more than ten minutes from ordering to receiving. Because there are barbecues always going on across the road, the demand for their chips is always high. I assume, this is the reason why, without fail, they are masters of the deep fried potato delicacy. Even if you don't like fish, you have to buy a large serving from Woody's. What I don't recommend is their barbecue chicken. It's very oil I find and at the end of the day, when that chicken has been sitting there for a good amount of hours it doesn't look appetising. In saying this people still buy it. All I can say is chips - get at them.

I crossed the road to the park to eat it. The fish was nice the rest was a mash of old crumbs from the deep fryer. The Tartare sauce tasted only of oil and garlic and was not pleasant with seafood. I returned the uneaten meal to the shop just to show them how bad it was.Taylor the girl who took my order took it away. I was walking back down the road when the owner came running after me, yelling very loudly "I MADE THE TARTARE SAUCE IT IS GOOD".He then yelled towards waiting customers "my sauce is good" they seemed as upset and confused as I was. I looked at this man who was wearing a dirty apron and had dirty hands and walked away. 0 rating
