I waited a few seconds and the pump continued to go through some boot-up process on the screen. I drove to another pump on the other side of the station. I put my card in the pump, followed the prompts on the screen, and picked up the nozzle. The pump automatically selected the premium fuel grade. I didn't even press a button, it just did it on its own. I tried pressing the button for regular to see if it would change, but it stayed on premium. I canceled the transaction and tried again. Again, it automatically selected premium. Fed up, I left and went to another gas station. I did see another pump handle that had a bag on it, so I don't know if they were running low on gas and maybe that's why the pump kept selecting premium on its own. Anyway, I think that's pretty shady and I bet there are some people who weren't paying attention who ended up with premium when they actually wanted regular.

I've had issues with the pumps here on more than a few occasions, including the auto pump clip…read moredisengaging and the pump stopping even when you're holding the trigger. I'm also a Fuel Rewards member, and the pumps do not recognize either the ALT ID or the Fuel Rewards number when it's linked to your credit card. FR offers those features so that you don't have to use the physical rewards card. Here though, you have to use your physical card, which means one more card to carry around in your wallet.
