Thompson Tire just quoted my daughter $1200 for changing the starter on a 09 Accord. They should be ashamed of themselves. They prey off of the community that supports them. I was on a road trip, and when I stopped for gas I noticed that the side of my tire had a large split in it. I called around to several tire shops in the area, but on the day before a holiday most had closed already. Thompson Tire in Radford answered the call, agreeing to stay open until I could get there. My car has run-flats and they didn't have any in stock, but they did have standard tires that fit and would allow me to finish the rest of my trip home. I was in and out of the shop in just over thirty minutes. They are incredibly helpful and honest, not trying to overcharge me and helping me solve the problem to get home. I ran over a curb in the local area and ruined a tire. Luckily Thompson Tire was right across the street from my business on Main St in Radford. I called them, told where my car was parked next to their shop and they put on my spare and ordered a new tire for me. The spare in my car is intentionally deflated and inflated when needed. I didn't have the pump to do that. They took it off, took it to their shop, filled it up took it back and installed it on my car. Jake and all the guys there are amazingly helpful. They will get all my business from now on. read more

Vehicle inspections take forever. They only have one inspector for the entire garage. If you call them they will tell you they have a spot available. Then when you arrive they then tell you that it will be 2.5 hours. I live 1 mile from this business, and told them I would have to go back home drop my girlfriend off to get my other vehicle to follow me back to Thompson tire so I could leave the vehicle to be inspected. Then I was told that I would lose my place in line. If I was told it would of been 2.5 hours on the phone when I originally called I would of had someone to follow me and I could of dropped the vehicle off. But the receptionist was a highschool student, not to bright. Went to shelor express care to get it inspected. Not going back to Thompson tire. read more

I picked Thompson Tire in Christiansburg because I had been ripped off pretty badly by another place in Blacksburg. I have been using their service for over a year now from everything from oil changes to state inspections. I usually drop my car off and go home. While it may take an hour or two get services done during peak hours, Thompson has always quoted me reasonable prices and done the work quickly and correctly the first time. I took my car to the one in Christiansburg, Va to get it serviced. They quoted me one price on the phone and ended up "finding" 200+ more dollars worth of work that it needed to be fixed that day which was okay because at least it would be fixed so I gave the okay for the work. Then they call me back a second time while working on my car and tell me they found another 650 dollars worth of work that needed to be done before it would pass inspection ( I had just paid over 675). I decided to get a second opinion so I went to get my car after being assured it would be okay to drive several times. I drove off their lot less than one mile and my power steering pressure line blew due to being over tightened, I drive 64+ miles a day to work and home and have no problems with my power steering ever. I called them and they agreed to fix it no charge but it took them 3 days to do so. Since having all of that work done the original problem is still there and the work they said I would nee isn't needed and my car passed inspection. All in all the experience was horrible and I would not recommend this place it anyone. read more
