First time here since moving back to Windsor back in October. My boyfriend's dad came down for the weekend and they wanted a place to eat out with a good beer selection and me, being from here, made the decision to come to this place, which I haven't been to since it opened back in 2015. We walked in and the server came up and let us know we could sit anywhere, we chose the patio, because it was a nice cool evening. We were immediately given menus to browse through. They're like an Irish style kind of pub with a good selection of beers on tap. My boyfriend and his dad both chose the Harp Lager, I chose a diet pepsi, I don't drink beer. We browsed the menu and we started with the Beer Battered Pickles and the Crispy Mozzarella and for our main entree's I chose the Panko Chicken Club and my boyfriend and his dad both got the fish & chips. Not long after we ordered our appetizers came out hot! The Crispy Mozzarella sticks were amazing and the beer battered pickles were crunchy with a crisp, and came with a horseradish type dipping sauce while the mozzarella sticks came with ranch and marinara. Our meals came not too long after that. I had ordered a side Caesar salad with mine instead of fries and the salad was delicious, the only thing I didn't like were the capers, and my sandwich was huge, crispy and delicious I saved half for tomorrow. I was told the fish & chips were delicious, with a house made tartar sauce, and the fries were crispy. Overall experience was great, our server was great, checked up on us asked us how our meal was, if we needed anything, and after we were done asked us if we wanted more beer or dessert, which we kindly declined; we were full. The patio was cool, and inside when we were leaving they were getting ready to play live music. I'll be coming back here as this restaurant is also close to home! read more

My husband, my father and I went for dinner at the Thompson House last night. We were warned that the oven was not working and the cottage pies would take some time. We were fine with that. 2 hours later we asked for our bill and went elsewhere for dinner. The really sad part was the attitude of the bartender last night. We suggested that they give us a free drink while we waited. We spent 125.51 on drinks. The waitress was very gracious but told us that the manager who never showed his face once said we could have a free dessert. We are fully capable of paying for our entire meal should it happen to be presented in a timely manner or with some amount of grace. I did not get the bartender's name but she is not a great example for your staff nor your customers. She seemed like she was doing us a favour and had an attitude all night. read more

Went here for Sunday night dinner. Happy that TH is one of few places in Windsor open late night Sunday for dinner. Our waitress Katelyn was awesome haven't seen a waitress take orders without writing them down in a long time. My friends enjoyed the fish tacos and the fish and chips. The TH burger had a bit too much going on and didn't exactly all fit. However, DIRTY BURGER was amazing. Cheese was spectacular combined with the crunch of the onion rings and the heat of the jalapeño chutney. Definitely recommend. The fries were solid and prob better than onion rings here. Feel free to add a fried egg on your burger for 90 cents. read more

First time trying out this restaurant. It's really nice inside, and atmosphere is good. There was live music playing, wish I got his name. We order a Caesar drink and peach palmer. Both drinks were fantastic, especially the Palmer. Food wise, I will have to give it one less star. We ordered the cottage pie and it was cold in the middle. Overall, taste was still good. Service was amazing. I will definitely come back for more drinks and try out the rest of the menu. read more

Beautiful restaurant/pub, brand new and spotlessly clean. Super friendly and fun server and bartender, attentive service and everybody seemed to enjoy being there- when employees hate being there it shows and impacts the experience of the customer. Our server recommended the feature burger called the Cheesus. Absolutely ridiculous burger: house made cheese sauce, real cheese curds, onion rings and house made burger sauce on a hand packed 8 oz patty. It was awesome. My wife had the panko chicken sandwich, also excellent. The food we ordered was clearly house made- no processed chicken or frozen manufactured patties. Price? Not cheap, but I don't mind paying a small premium for properly prepared quality food, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. I suppose I could have saved maybe $5 on the bill if I went to Applebee's and ordered something that they could microwave or boil in bag. My only criticism is something another reviewer mentioned- when you enter there is no hostess stand or line of sight to the bar, so we had to wander around a bit to get somebody's attention. Once that happened, though, we were greeted warmly and everything was awesome from there. We'll be back, and we'll bring friends! read more

Ate here at prime dinner hour with two friends and were seated right away (granted, it was a thursday). Restaurant is clean and nicely decorated with a lot of cool touches...overall, we really liked the feel and atmosphere. The menu is somewhat limited, but in a way that I like--a good variety of choice, without being your overwhelming decision for the day. I really liked the combination of classic British foods and other more modern bar fare like nachos and tacos and that kind of thing. We had the fried pickles to start, which are beer battered and REALLY good. They're done in spears instead of coins, which I much prefer. One of my friends had the bangers and mash, which was quite good and managed to avoid being excessively bland like some versions I've tried. The other had the shepherd's pie, which was a very big portion and good too (so he says--I didn't try it). I had a reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries on the side, which was both really good, and the reason I'm deducting a star from this rating. The fries were great--nothing bad to say there. The sandwich was a $2 upgrade from just a corned beef sandwich, and I wonder if maybe the kitchen made the standard by mistake. Don't get me wrong--it was very good. The corned beef was nice and meaty, without tons of fat or gristle like you sometimes find in corned beef, and it had cheese and stone ground mustard. The marble rye was toasted but not grilled, so it wasn't super greasy (a plus for me) and overall it was a good sandwich...I just wouldn't necessarily call it a classic reuben. The service we found quick and friendly, and they brought us a split cheque without even being asked, which I always like. I always find it bizarre that a server would assume that an obviously mixed table would be all on one bill. Personal pet peeve, I guess. :) Bottom line--all three of us agreed that we'd definitely eat here again. Food was great, atmosphere is great, and it's nice to reclaim a bit of the British that the Kildaire let go. read more

The owners and staff are great. I went in Wednesday night at supper time. I had wings and mozzarella sticks. My friend had a burger. We both had one draft. $50 seems a bit steep. I left a great tip though. The wings were undercooked...that slippery texture even when you bite in. I didn't complain, but I won't get their wings again. I love the late night atmosphere from other nights I've gone in. They selection of whiskey sand beers are good. I'll eat before my next trip in. read more

My SO and I went here for a late lunch while in Windsor for a day. The place is beautiful -- the decor and furnishings are all brand new and very well done. And the food and staff were great. We ordered the Irish nachos and the fried mac and cheese bites to share. Both were phenomenal and definitely made in-house rather than just re-heated. The Irish nachos -- not actually nachos, but instead waffle fries topped with cheese curds and braised beef -- were my favorite. They had great flavor from every ingredient and reminded me of poutine -- something I had been searching for as an American. The waffle fries would have been great even without the toppings. The mac and cheese bites were also very good and came with a good sauce to dip them in. The bartender was what really made our visit worthy of five stars. He was funny and friendly, and always seemed to have a smile on his face and have something interesting to say. Honestly one of the nicest restaurant staff I've met. I wish I'd gotten his name. The waitresses were nice, but didn't interact with us as much other than taking our order and delivering the food. As others have mentioned, it is a little awkward getting seated here. There's no hostess and we waited for a couple minutes for someone to seat us to no avail. I finally just walked in and was told to sit anywhere we'd like. Maybe they should put a sign at the front telling you to either seat yourself, or wait to be seated. Overall a great visit. Highly recommended. read more

Four ladies got together here last night. I hadn't been in a while and it was a definite place I would return to. Beer was cold. Service was great and my meal was excellent. I had the special which was a burger with cheese and onion rings and fried mac n cheese on top. Came with their really good hand cut fries. Alot of food and I was able to bring half my burger home and enjoy it for lunch today. Very nice washrooms on the second level. This just might be our go to place for our dinners out. read more

The Gentlemens Choice My mother lives right across the street from Thompson House. It's beautifully decorated, and the staff is top shelf. The food is great too. The prices are a little too high in my opinion. I also wish they had daily specials, on food and drinks. Overall, go with friends and you'll have a great time, just bring your visa. read more

Stopped by last night around midnight with 12 friends after dining at Spago's earlier in the evening. Waitress and bartender refused to open upstairs when main floor was full. We left without buying a drink. We even offered to walk our own drinks from bar to the upstairs. Bartender was laughing through window as 12 patrons left because they were simply too lazy to do their jobs. Went home and drank in my own basement bar for free with my friends. I wish there was an option to leave a no star review as this place is absolutely terrible! The service was awful, the bartenders have no idea how to make drinks and the owner is beyond rude. She intentionally came up to our table to escalate an otherwise simple and handled situation. I was given a drink with a half eaten orange peel and politely told the waitress about it and she offered to get me a new drink. The owner then took it upon herself to come and tell me I was out of line and that it was not a half eaten orange and that is how the drink was supposed to come. I kindly pointed out the teeth marks in the orange which she then ripped out of my hands and asked me, "what orange peel?" Feeling completely embarrassed at this point in a somewhat crowded establishment I was told to leave and that they did not need business from my kind. Its a brand new place. The décor is really pretty and the bathrooms clean (one toilet for all to use). Free parking in a small parking lot to the rear. The food is average -- not amazing, but not bad. When you walk in, there is no greeting. Not sure if you seat your self or not. And not sure if you bring your menus with you or not. We sat ourselves and brought menus with us. Although the waitress was nice, she was not too helpful. The salad was priced to be a super large (you can eat it as a meal), it was just a bit larger than a side salad. But we ordered two toffee cakes. Instead of toffee, the cook or whomever used brown gravy. I am not joking. It took nearly 10 minutes after she served it to get her attention. When we told her something was wrong with the sauce, she picked up my daughter's fork and just dug in. I laugh at her honesty and the down-hominess of what she did, but I was grossed out at the same time. Her face was hilarious when she tasted the nastiness. She left. She came back after a long time and said it was not gravy but not toffee. Whatever - it was nasty. Then she said she would be nice to us and take off the desert. No offense -- but we would have refused to pay for that because it was gravy on a spice cake. So beware of their toffee cake! We found this place looking for another place, but that closed at 3pm. This was open, not too busy, and ok food, but have to knock down the stars because of the bad dessert experience. I guess it is worth a try if you are near by, but we won't return. read more

You wonder where people have been eating when they rave about this place. * no one to greet or seat you * food was not what menu stated, pretty sure some of it came out of a can, lettuce brown is not acceptable to serve * server was nice but brought the wrong martini's (vodka first, gin if customer specifies) * overpriced for the 'grub' they serve Went back later for live entertainment after visiting the club at the casino and a friend of ours on 5 inch heels was wobbly so the Casino staff suggested we not take her into the casino! that was fine. when we arrived at Thompson house I saw my neighbours and some other people I knew - chatted with them while my friends spoke to the musicians and told them that our friend isn't drinking anymore because she was wobbly and the Casino wouldn't let her in. At that point the bouncer standing nearby(really short guy with a toque and probably a few too many steroids) walked over and told us we were cut off and couldn't have alcohol. At this point we had only ordered 3 drinks (one beer for one of the musicians - who were fabulous - and 2 for myself and my girlfriend that wasn't wobbly) and not had a drink or anything in the restaurant. I inquired with the bouncer "Why would you cut us off? on what grounds?" He responded "on the grounds you were kicked out of the Casino".. Our server was miffed and apologetic, our table next to us was shocked, even the musicians commented to the guy that it didn't seem right.......AND our friend that was wobbly was no longer by the time we had arrived at Thompson house. We are, all 3, professionals in our late 40's and my first response was to write to the owners. I found them through Facebook. You can see that they read the issue but they failed to respond. I waited a few weeks before writing this review to give them an opportunity but I met someone the other night that told me they had a similar experience and they were very frustrated and would not return to Thompson House. A friend of theirs told me that they experienced terrible customer service. I truly felt that it was an isolated incident with an over zealous bouncer and they should have addressed the issue immediately but chose not too. I will never go back, nor recommend the place to the hundreds of people I meet each month. You had your opportunity to recognize a flaw in your business and address it, that time has run out and the story needs to be shared. read more

Have been there several times and the service is always great. Friendly staff and reasonably quick. While waiting for my daughter to meet us, my son and I ordered the Ploughman's appetizer. Being $19 the expectation is that there will be some value for the money... Very disappointing. Came with 4 puny pieces of sliced dinner roll... way too many olives and a whopping 3 slices of what appeared to be spiced ham. The spicy fruity salsa was excellent though. I understand it's an appetizer but a Ploughman's is supposed to be rather more hearty. Should not have to ask for more bread. There should be enough to eat what's on the plate. Has been a long time since we have been here because the service was awful but thought we would try it again to watch a soccer match. Was busy and servers seemed very unorganized. Waited a while to get drinks and asked to change tv from wrestling to soccer. Never happened and never came back to take our order so we left. New pub in the neighborhood - hopefully they will get better -Order for drinks was way too fast - leave us a bit of time to actually check the menu - I didn't even put my purse down and the waitress was there asking me what I wanted -When I ask what is on tap, don't laugh at me and say 'we have a lot', ask me what kind of beer I like and what special you have if you have any. Offer me a suggestion to try, I will usually try it. Or give us a decent menu with all your beers that are on tap on it - and give us the time to check it -I ordered a salad with extra chicken - for 14$, I looked like I was an anorexic - the salad was WAY to small for a meal, at least put it in a bigger bowl to make it look like were eating a decent sized meal. For 14$, there should be WAY more chicken in this salad. -Food in general was just - meh. Nothing really out of this world - way too expensive for what we are getting in our plates. Would only go back to this pub for a drink, I've had better food elsewhere. Stopped in for a burger and beer on a Saturday night. The staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Fun atmosphere! This is a 2.5 all day. I am beginning to question my standards. I'm shocked that there is a review for this place that includes "service is top notch". Been here twice and it is far from top notch. Bunch of 20 something servers and bartenders who treat this place like its a hang out. Food I find fairly priced. Me, my fiance, 7 year old daughter and two friends had lunch (no alcohol) and our bill was $65 with tip. I find that pretty reasonable for lunch. If this place would fix the brutal service it would be a regular place for us. read more
