They attended for one year, and unfortunately, I do not have anything positive to say about our experience. The school feels more like a business than a place focused on education. The teachers, as well as the principal, seem very unprofessional. There is also a lot of bullying, and the school does not seem able to handle it properly, possibly because there are around 38 students in each class, which makes supervision and dealing with conflict (which is all the time) very difficult. In addition, the school does not offer any after-school activities or programs. Kids play and eat at the parking lot. Overall, our experience was not what we expected, and I would recommend that other parents carefully research before enrolling their children

That is the worst part and with long lasting consequences. - This school is a business, their prime objective is to make money, not to teach and form human beings. - Classes are overcrowded (40 children in one class). This, unavoidably, impacts both academic and social/emotional learning. - Very few electives, with 'art' being the only legitimate one. The 'art' teachers are great (if those that we know are still with the school). - Volatile faculty/staff, very few accredited teachers stay with the school for more than 2-3 years. - I wish I could turn back time and never enroll my child in this school. Needless to say, I was shocked when he started crying in the car when I picked him up. Our son shadowed at several South Bay schools including other catholic schools without incident. According to his version, he made eraser marks on his desk in science so the 4th grade science teacher embarrassed him in front of the entire class and made him stay after to clean a row of desks as punishment. My child has NEVER been in trouble at school and is a "A" student. So my initial thought was it must be a simple misunderstanding. Giving the school and teacher the benefit of the doubt, I politely reached out to the principal for clarification on what happened so I could make an informed decision about the school. The response from the principal was a short "picking a school can be hard so take your time" as if the incident didn't happen, was a normal occurrence, or simply supported the teacher's actions. Yes. My son may have accidentally put eraser marks on a desk. But he was also a scared 9-year-old guest nervous and self-conscious not knowing anyone and unaware of the classroom rules. Rather than feeling safe and engaged, he felt humiliated and belittled. The teacher even made a comment "if he did it again next time" oblivious he was a guest. How does a teacher not know all the students in her class 5 months into the year? Needless to say the school was not for us.

I interacted with multiple folks in their office but later realized they enrolled more number of students than what they can actually intake and then they put you on a waitlist. They do a decent job of selling their institution. Well it was an unpleasant learning experience for us as they did not make it transparent! Anyways we were unceremoniously added to a waitlist. After a few weeks they emailed us that a spot had opened up. I enrolled my child as I was still interested. Within 2 weeks of enrolling we found that their after school person does not work collaboratively with parents or maybe works selectively with some parents based on her liking them or not. We requested a couple of small requests related to how much time she shows movies for kids in the aftercare. She works with an attitude of "my way or the highway!" In other words large part of the after school care is spent every day in movies - maybe 60 mins or maybe 90 mins! We do not know why the school does not hire a more energetic person to lead the after care program who is interested in providing kids more activities and NOT JUST MOVIES! If you want an environment that does NOT support your child's growth through the day in the school where they spend most of their day then this is the place for you! We withdrew our child and went elsewhere. One day, my daughter was supposed in infront of the class to speak about famous character, she supposed to wear costume, but I did not buy it on time. The teacher called to send her home at 11:00 am without letting her to stay and learn performance from other kids. Teacher said no need, " I will send you the video of others", but, I had not received any video. This is called discrimination or what? Why she not allow her to stay and learn. I started at SV in kindergarten, and the first few years weren't bad. I was a kid, I made friends, I was happy, and I learned the alphabet and how to read. Everything was going great. Then COVID hit, and everything just degraded from there. Our sports teams used to be very good, but now that whoever signs up gets in and the coaches are parent volunteers who kind of struggle, the teams had a habit of holding up unfortunate losing streaks. How the teams does is based on the athletic ability of its players. If they suck, the team will inevitably suck. I speak from the perspective of a former student-athlete who partook in some of the very few sports available. Then there is the case of the academics. On the bright side, my class was blessed with excellent junior-high teachers, much so our eight grade home room teacher. The way some of the teachers taught while I was in middle school made me so confused and unprepared for high school. I had to seek the help of my peers who had to learn the math lessons themselves and ask them for the formula. It also didn't help that math was and never will be my strong suit. Some of the staff got a little too comfortable and spoke to the student in ways their peers would to them. They are also double-sided like the edge of a sword, showing kindness one second and tearing you out the next. Some may say that acting in a way that makes the teacher seem like they are of the same generation of the student towards them would make them more comfortable with that teacher, but I strongly disagree. The staff are there as ADULTS who must be role models to these students who are still developing their prefrontal lobe. I became very uncomfortable with the way these teachers spoke to myself and my peers, thus making me want nothing more than to graduate asap. It shouldn't make a difference now that I've moved on to an excellent school that I love, but I fear for the future generations. Despite being ipad kids, they deserve to have a good education as a youth and to have proper support. They deserve to have role models that make them want to follow in their footsteps in the future. They deserve to understand every math lesson in the way I never really did. Even if they don't understand that lesson, they should feel comfortable enough to go to the teachers on their own time and seek help. Bad things out of the way (I haven't mentioned all of them but this should be enough), I did love the friends that I found there. The school community is small, which is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing being that you get more individualized attention (if at all) and you're more likely to be friends with your entire class, curse being that if you have drama (trust me, all sixth graders will get into drama) then you can't have anybody to turn to if you have a horrible falling-out or if everybody just hates you. The last part is kind of your problem. I was lucky that I had friends to confide in and ones that were very close to me. Despite having to part with some of them, I'd say that they were the good things that happened to me in my years of going to this school. If you didn't read the whole thing, here's the summary of what I just wrote. Don't send your kid here. Even if you live close by, you might as well send them to Sierramont. If you really want to go to a private school that bad, send them to SJB or something.

This school has tremendously blessed us through constant teaching from the word of God. CCA takes a biblical worldview seriously and immerses Scripture throughout all curriculum and all grades. The school is very intentional in shaping its students to have godly and mature characters. As a classical Christian school, especially on younger grades, students go back to fundamentals and proven materials as opposed to blindly boost STEM. Both of our children love going to school and eagerly share with us what they have learned every day when we pick them up from school. They each experience much love and care from teachers and staff. As parents, we have learned a lot from monthly daddy's prayer and mommy's prayer days. As a relatively small school, we feel very welcomed through this tight community of Christian families. We can truly see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in each dedicated & humble teacher and staff. In addition to the heartwarming smiles we see each day, the solid academic work is also impressive. Another plus is CCA is also affordable! Of course, no school is perfect, but we trust that as long the school continues to stand firmly on the true foundation, the Lord will guide and grow this school in the years to come.

Since only parents are giving reviews on this school, here's a review from a former student…read more The original vision for this school was great, they wanted to raise up "Esthers and Daniels" and incorporate the truth of God's Word into the education, and give advanced classical education. At the beginning of the school, they did exactly that and there weren't many problems from what I understood. Then the staff started to get swapped out which caused a complete change in their vision and God being taken out of the center. First, half of the teachers and staff are not qualified to teach and not socialized properly with children. The principal Jere Allen choked a 6th grader with their hoodie all because of his OCD about not wanting them leaning on a certain fence. "I love making kids insecure," are his words, right after he yelled at kids for talking on their way to class. This guy still hasn't been fired by the way. Just know if you send your kids here you will not win with the staff EVER. If you're not involved in the staff as a parent, you'll be talking to a brick wall with every question or complaint you have. They'll crucify your kid for the wrong colored socks but let their own kids wear whatever they want and pass them even if they fail a class. If your kid is getting bullied by a staff kid or favored kid, I promise you that nothing will be done about it. And the highschool is even worse than elementary. Multiple students had complaints because they advertised it as a "rhetoric high school" and then proceeded to take out the only rhetoric class they had. Then they heard the students complaints, did nothing about it, then accused them of spreading gossip. There is no advanced education in the highschool or any AP classes, and a diploma from here will not get your kid into anything except bible colleges. It's never an easy choice, but I encourage parents to do proper research before sending your kids here. There are many more options if you want classical education for your kid. Don't rely on school to parent your kids or teach them truth of God's word, they need you for guidance. School should not be a place where your kid is placed in a hierarchy, they are there to learn, and teachers are there to teach. I don't know much about the current elementary school but I know that CCA's advertisements for the high school are a complete lie. This is an authoritarian school, not a Christian discipleship school, but if you want that and think that it's best for your kid, go for it. Lastly, if you are looking for a teaching position here, I don't recommend it either. The admin mistreats the teachers just as much as they do the students. If you're curious, read CCAs indeed reviews. There's no doubt that almost all of the the teachers at the school were amazing and genuine Godly leaders for the students, but they leave the school almost immediately after joining because of the horrible mistreatment, and they can't protect the kids from the admin who abuse their authority every chance they get. Its a toxic environment for everyone.

Prior to St Simon, we were the "never-private school" people. Having 2 kids at St Simon has completely changed our minds. Not only is it academically more rigorous/challenging; the Catholic values of being neighborly, helpful, respectful, etc. are incorporated in every aspect of the curriculum and reinforced daily by staff and administrators. Social Emotional Learning is reinforced throughout the day. There are MANY opportunities for students of all ages to volunteer/contribute to the community. Yesterday, while we're on vacation, my older son (12 years old) asked if my husband and him can volunteer together again, then was excited to find out that there's an opportunity coming up in January. This is just one of many examples that SSPS is fostering an environment where the students think of others, instead of themselves. Even though many families are well-off financially, there isn't a culture of competition and/or bragging/showing-off. There's also zero-tolerance for bullying. My son was threatened by a friend (not sure if it was a joke or not, and nothing bad happened), but the administrative staff and teachers took immediate action and ensured that my son felt safe at school (my son said his friend wasn't serious). My younger son was diagnosed with ADHD and other special needs and the SSPS staff was SUPER helpful in both providing accommodations for him in the classroom, as well as coordinating with an OT to come onsite to work with him twice a month. The accommodations makes his day at school much more smooth and enjoyable, and he absolutely LOVES school. I was raised Catholic but my husband is agnostic. Neither of us have found anything to be "overly religious." The values that are taught are the ones I ascribe to: be kind, be polite, be helpful, respect your teachers/parents, love your siblings and friends. My kids don't like the Mass but they are able to appreciate the value in sitting still and having the time to reflect (or daydream). The school + parish also offers wonderful activities throughout the year! There are BBQs, sporting events, and lots of other ways to be involved in the community. I used to do yard duty once a a week and really enjoy getting to know the kids in the lower grades. Highly recommend SSPS!

She hated school and I honestly didn't have much faith that anything could change that. We attended a St. Simon open house and were really impressed with the teachers and staff and so decided to give the school a shot, not sure whether we should really get our hopes up. Our expectations have been so far exceeded that I can hardly even believe it. I love this school so much, and my daughter is so happy and thriving. Within weeks of starting classes here, she completely changed her outlook on school. She is excited to wake up in the morning on school days, and she's motivated to put real thought and effort into her assignments even though the work is sometimes even more than was expected at her old school. St. Simon has made learning fun and engaging for her so that it feels like a joy, not a chore. Her teachers are always available to answer her questions or mine, and with their support it didn't take long for her to close many of the glaring academic gaps I'd been so worried about. The student body here is diverse and friendly. There are kids from many different backgrounds and kids interested in all sorts of different things, from sports to art to robotics and beyond. The students are taught to truly appreciate and celebrate their differences and to understand that everyone has a unique part to play in the school community and the wider community as well. I think it's worth noting that, although it seems the majority of the families at St. Simon are catholic, my family is not catholic - however, I have always been made to feel so welcome and this has never been an issue. If my daughter has questions about the catholic faith there is always someone to answer her questions without judgment and without any pressure. This is a very welcoming place and I have attended mass at the St. Simon parish many times over the course of the school year and have always been made to feel completely welcome. I appreciate the values and morals my daughter is taught as part of a well-rounded catholic education. In summary, this place has changed my daughter's life and by extension changed my life. She loves learning again and is being well prepared for not only her academic future but for being a caring, contributing member of society. The last thing I'll say is this: at St. Simon, every child knows they matter, and every child knows they are surrounded by grown-ups who are invested in seeing them succeed. I really could not ask for more in a school environment, and I am forever grateful.
