I'm currently trying to leave the apartment under the 'broken lease clause,' but the Thomas Lake leasing office is making it very very difficult. Here's a run down of the nightmare so far, and other severe issues I had here: - A situation in which a $5,000 check mailed to me was taken from building 1530's by an individual. When I brought up the issue with Thomas Lake's Leasing office, I was told that there was nothing they could do about it and shrugged the situation off. As the situation was likely a theft at the time, and with very little help, I chose to call the police and started a report - the police said they would call the Thomas Lake office in the morning. The police made several attempts at calling the office, but no one answered the phone. When I e-mailed the office about the situation asking for help in identifying the individual who took the check with the cameras mounted in the lobby of 1530, I was met with silence and had to *personally* walk into the office to get an answer, with the police never being responded to. When I asked the staff about what they saw on the cameras, the property manager proceeded to lie and say there is no cameras in the lobby area, even though there are, as I counted them, three, all aimed at the mailboxes and parcel room. In this situation I would have accepted "sorry, but it is corporate policy not to release video footage without a warrant," but I didn't appreciate being stonewalled and ultimately lied to, not to mention the legality of refusing to acknowledge the police in the first place, and perhaps even protecting criminal actions. - A forementioned incident in which, roughly around the 10th of December time-frame, I stopped by the office to declare that I was leaving Jan 1st, as I had purchased a home. I was told by the leasing agent (who I believe is named "Annie?") that she couldn't do anything at the moment, as the property manager (the same individual who lied to me about the cameras,) had gone home early (and in fact had constantly gone home early on multiple occasions when I needed something done). The leasing agent did assure me that she would forward the message, and proceeded to write it down on a sticky note. After a while of not hearing back, I stopped by the office again and spoke to the general manager (same person who lied to me about the cameras,) about my moving out. When I asked about the previous communication with the leasing agent, the general manager seemed perplexed before telling me she found a digital note left by the leasing agent on her computer. She then said, to the best of my recollection, 'yeah, I see the notification now put in from the leasing agent. You should really only have to pay for January, which is something you already did. I guess you'll just have to pay your broken lease fines and then your move-out costs,' to which I verbally agreed to, and told her I would begin moving out, that she was free to flip the apartment and rent it out again, and that she was welcome to send me the bill whenever she'd like. I was not able to follow up on this immediately, since I was moving to a new home and starting a new job. At the end of the month I shut off my Minnesota Energy account as, again, I was told that my lease was ending in January. I followed up the shuttering of my account with calling the office, in which everyone immediately seemed confused, and that my lease was extended all the way to the end of the February, far beyond the Thomas Lake's "60-day" notice policy. I was forwarded to the general manager (same person who lied to me about the cameras,)  who went on to tell me that since I emailed Hayley on Jan 1st, that my 60 day notice would end on February and that I was still on the hook for February's rent ($1530,) and the utilities. At that point I mentioned that I had spoken to the leasing agent earlier than Jan 1st about me leaving, to which the general manager said something to the effect of 'if you don't have written proof of that, I don't care' and that I needed to pay the $1530 and that she threatened me by sending the rent payment to collections. At the time I was rather flustered and didn't have the time to mention the sticky note or the digital note on the general manager's system - I stated that 'so, basically I'm paying $1530 for a whoopsy?' in which the general manager denied that any wrong doing had taken place, and that she trusted her people to have written something down, despite the fact I encountered incident after incident of the Thomas Lake staff completely dropping the ball after I was told "we'll take care of it," and furthermore by hiding or destroying documentation concerning my earlier "60-day" notice. read more

As of tonight we are going on 48 hours of a 75° apartment after working 10 hour days and 90°+ heat! Oh, also our water was lukewarm yesterday afternoon and as of today it's ice cold. So now we are going on 24 hours of no hot water. No explanations no apologies or solutions except for "we're short staffed, one of our maintenance guys on vacation" Well isn't he lucky then! get me a hotel room then! DO NOT LIVE HERE. There are middle school-aged kids who live in the buildings that are in gangs. One gave his fellow gang member the keys to his building and there was a massive fight in a hallway. Teenage boys running around out of control, yelling, swearing. Numerous tenants called 911. No less than 8 police vehicles responded, blocking off access to the buildings for hours. Management has not addressed the incident whatsoever, even though residents are calling and leaving messages daily wanting to know what is going to be done about those tenants. No one will answer the phone, either at Nationwide Housing Properties (NHP, who owns and manages the property) or the "building manger" on-site. She simply hangs up on you. There is garbage in the stairwells. Graffiti in the stairwells. The office was broken into and locks on the buildings weren't replaced. The entrance to the 1510 building reeks. It is stained (carpet is 30 years old), worn, and in places breaking down. They try to cover up the smell by dumping febreeze. They use so much your lungs constrict and you end up coughing and gagging. I am moving out when my lease ends - it can't come soon enough! read more

Great location and staff. Residents leave much to be desired. I loved living here initially, but since I've been here until I moved out, it's gotten worse. Residents let their kids run up and down the hallways and in and out of each others' apartments, even after 9pm. The adults who chose to be loud and obnoxious ruined the experience for quieter folks - I noticed a nice older couple near me moved out and was replaced by noisy people. Not only that, some residents are downright creepy (eg, the man who followed me in the parking garage). Sure, the beautiful, nature-y, woodsy location within walking distance of Thomas Lake Park is nice, as is the relatively low rent price compared to other apartments in Eagan, but unless you always walk with your husband/significant other/roommate while in public, or have a job where you can make it home before 4pm, I do not recommend it. Way too sketchy of a place to be walking around alone (inside). Outdoors usually felt safe, however. The staff are very nice, but there's no way they can monitor all four of the buildings during the evening and night hours to ensure their safety. Pros: - In-Unit Washer/Dryer; dryer has pull-out external lint tray so your clothes won't get all lint-y - Outdoor Pool - Indoor Hot Tub - LOTS of free books to borrow and read in the Clubhouse and main lounge areas on individual apartment floors - Heated garage parking for 1 car included in rent Cons: - Thin walls; can hear lateral (side-to-side) noise from neighbors; not just vertical. Even "quiet" noises like plugging things into electric outlets can be heard through the walls. - Hallways have dirty carpet thanks to sloppy neighbors who don't tie up their trash properly. Carpet down by the parking garage smells old and musty. Beware if you are allergic to mold. - Parking garage is really tight and has NO security cameras - Have to get carpet professionally cleaned before moving out - Oven does not have its own timer (have to use the microwave timer instead) - If you use DSL internet: only 2 phone jacks in the entire apartment (one in the bedroom; one in the kitchen) read more

I have lived here almost 4 years now and for apartment living it is much nicer than the other options in the area. The wooded lot is really pretty and access to Thomas Lake Trails is convenient. Never had any problems with management here and the staff is very nice. Only down side is the rent goes up every year and after a couple years can be significantly more expensive than when originally moving in. Also, the property is a CO-OP so there is no renter tax return at the end of the year. read more

I normally don't like going by reviews, especially for apartments because I've lived in them since college. Let me tell you, giving this place even one star is WAY more than they deserve. I should have listened to all the reviews here telling me to RUN and that is what I will reiterate. RUN. DO. NOT. APPLY. TO. LIVE. HERE. This place is seriously run down (not only the buildings, the apartment style and the fact the elevator feels like it's going to give out any second + the panel for the electric/controls in the elevators are always open and not secured). I really didn't think much of it when I did my initial tour because like i said, I've lived in run-down, college student housing before so it was nothing new to me. I loved the location because it's right next to the lake and they have a little path that connects the apartments to the lake trails and this place cut down the commute to work immensely. My boyfriend and I live together, and have been since college, so we thought this place wouldn't be bad for the price because they do have a small fitness center (great if you're only working on cardio - their weight machine is a joke and they have no free weights), steam room, hot tub and game room... but they are all only open during the 8-5 business hours. And most of the time, the people that do work here, Bobbie and Chris, leave before it's even 5 o'clock. I moved here in 2019 and it didn't start off like this, but after a recent break-in to the main office where garage codes were stolen, they have permanently only opened the clubhouse during office hours which makes it hard to use any of the amenities that WE PAY FOR (for living here). The office workers are honestly so lazy. There have been times when I'd come to the office to either drop off rent or talk to someone in the office, only to be met with a sign letting me know they're on lunch and will return in an hour. I have literally waited almost 2 hours before another resident was fed up waiting and banged on the office door, to which Bobbie came out of the office and apologized, saying she didn't know there was anyone waiting outside the door. The apology was noted but the point is that if you say you're going to return within an hour, at least do so. I honestly do not know what they do all day besides write up memos to residents with typos (they have all the time in the world because they do not help any residents whatsoever) when the least they could do is revise what they're sending out to residents. When I first moved in, there was a dent in the bathtub floor, which made for a huge safety hazard. It has not been replaced or ever talked about again. There were also a few other things wrong/broken about the apartment that were brought up and I was told they would be taken care of right away, as we had just moved in. There was total silence from the office for about a month until I received an email saying there was a site-wide maintenance initiative going on and for us to reply with which day worked best for us for maintenance to come. My boyfriend and I both weren't sure what our schedules were and wanted one of us to be present while maintenance was there. So until I knew, I didn't respond. I replied two days later and didn't hear anything back and when I came back home, maintenance had left a letter saying they would be BACK the following week, meaning they were already there. What was the point of even asking which day worked out best for us if they were going to barge in anyway? Anyway, I know this was more of a venting session rather than a review, but I want people to know what they will be going through if they do apply to live here. I don't want anyone to have to be under this kind of unprofessional and terrible, terrible management. Perhaps it's because I work at a place where we prioritize customer service and the customer experience that I'm so passionate and have been so understanding of this place and the people that work here, but enough is enough. I was a six year resident of Thomas Lake Pointe apartments, moving out November 2020 due to the presence of cockroaches that spread to my apartment from another apartment. My apartment was in the 1530 building ( there are a total of four apartment buildings within Thomas Lake Pointe apartments) and I have no knowledge of the condition of those buildings. I was told by the exterminator who was dispatched to my apartment, that after they treated another apartment near mine for cockroaches a few weeks earlier, that they strongly urged management to treat surrounding apartments - up an down- to prevent the spread of cockroaches to other apartments, and that management did not follow this professional advice - hence, the cockroaches made their way to my home. Though management made efforts to kill off the cockroaches in my apartment they were unsuccessful and I just couldn't take it any more after putting up with this for 2+ months so I moved out early. I did not get what I paid for during those cockroach months, including the use of my kitchen which had to be completely cleared out for one of the early cockroach treatments - and at that time I ceased bringing food into my home as further use of my kitchen was not in my best interest. I mean, cockroaches in the kitchen? Gross. There was no way I could use the kitchen again, nor can I ever imagine living there again. Windows original to the 70s so plan on high energy bills summer & esp winter. And who designs a place w/furnace vents next to the ceiling? Cooking odors, cigarette smoke from other apts Mainenance didn't level fridge so doors don't swing shut, hit the wall. Fridge temp hard to keep food frozen in freezer but not frozen in the fridge. Kitchen sink not treated before I moved in & needed drano to drain properly- explains the fruit flies. Absolutely no storage here. No recycling shute, have to bring it to the basement yourself-so many don't care & just throw it in the garbage. Expensive, have to pay own gas, water/sewer/trash.+ is own washer/dryer. Keep looking. read more
