So, having been introduced to the aural delights of very high definition sound by a colleague (damn…read morehim for sending me on this very expensive trail of sound perfection!!), I scoured the country looking for a retail store where I could buy quality HiFi product at not unreasonable prices in comparison to shipping in from the UK. I had been in the UK the week before and was quite ticked off with the constant *can we help you?* annoyance of the chains that side of the water. I was quite pleased therefore to find these happy chappies residing in a little out of the way location in South Dub. Anyway, went in with the intention of buying one particular unit which I had researched the begoonies out of on the web, listened to it and was instantly disappointed. Told the chap what I was looking for and was treated to what I can only describe as the total opposite of a sales pitch - instead, he pattered on as if talking to a long lost friend about the wonders of a long lost goldmine he'd recently discovered in a subterranean cave .... such was his passion for his sound! He wasn't interested in selling me the most my wallet would stretch to, instead he truly wanted me to understand the wide variety of ranges, be that a lowly all in one unit or a crazily priced and very blingy wow! machine. I decided on one particular unit, took happy possession of a fresh brown cardboard box and toddled on my way. Two hours later, arriving home, I find the damn thing is DOA! When I contacted Sevenoaks, there was no question of anything but an immediate refund or replacement - whichever I wished. I really did like the unit so opted for another go .... Uh-huh! .. wrong answer Wilbur! ... just my luck, the SECOND unit was DOA ... jeez.... Again, absolutely no problem, refund or swap-out, and this time they would put the unit on test in the store for an hour or two before I arrived to ensure it worked perfectly. Finally... to cut a long story short, TWO DOA units later I returned with the honest intention of swapping out one more time with fingers crossed, and then, got talking in-depth to subterranean cave guy ... and we talked, and talked, and eventually I went home with a completely different unit that while it cost me a few quid more, was a supremely better purchase all around and has performed flawlessly since installation. Third time lucky, a good deal done, and knowing where I will be returning to when I need to link the next room in the house up to my new sound mesh system. Strongly recommended.

I checked with the manager that it would fit on mt cantilever stand, trading up 42" to 43" told yes. Bingo, I'm off, collect my new shiny TV. Get it home and out of the box, 4 holes in the back but no screws???? The screws that I had for my recycled TV were too big but they provided none for my brackets. I get on the blower, is it me? The call center call me back and get the manager from Naas on the phone. You told me it would fit on my stand says I? It will do says he but you need the screws. Don;t they come with them says I? Oh no only if you buy brackets or a stand says he??? Eventually he says I'll rummage around and post you a couple out, they'll be with you in a few days says he. Shocked that I'd been misled originally I said O.K. Then I had a brainwave, there is a power city 5 minutes down the road. I left my number at the call center 3 more times, then I got a call back. I re-explained the situation and said rather than Naas post them out I'll go and collect from Finglas. Mmmm... I'll check with Naas I'm told?? someone will call shortly. No reply after half an hour so back on to no help desk. They call me, I'm told that even though they have hundreds of TV'S and bracket sets them there screws (even though I've found out that there are only 4 sizes https://removeandreplace.com/2016/10/18/tv-wall-mounting-what-type-of-screws-do-i-need-from-wall-bracket-to-tv/) are about as common as hens teeth!!! They have none of them there screws that go with your nice new telly sir. Basically shut up and wait until the middle of next week while we scrummage around to send you a couple. When I asked the guy quite angrily on the phone, are you having a laugh when you said Finglas store has none, he replied yes I'm sure. That is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard. I challenge anyone of Power city right now to let me take that big new TV that is still in the box to the Finglas store and not have 2 standard screws for my TV. I can't comprehend if it's bare faced lying or juct incredibly poor training for the so called customer service.

I spied a vacuum cleaner in the window that looks pretty similar to the one at home...well, it's the same colour anyway, so I confidently stride in and request a bag of bags. The lady behind the desk takes one look at me and asks "are you sure it's the same hoover?" I admit they are similar but cant be sure, she patiently explaing that colour is not the best basis on which to get hoover bags and perhaps I had better take note of the model number. Duly chastened I thanked her and left. They definitely know this too, using their notable yellow shop front as their web page template. The company is now run by his son and, despite playing a great underdog, I was as astonished as David D to find that they are basically the most successful hoover related company in Dublin. Amazing. I had came into this shop a few months ago and had a terrible experience and never wrote about it…read moreuntil now as I have recently had another. I was shopping in The Park a few months ago, on a Thursday evening around 7.30. During my trip I had purchased a game from Smyth's and put it in the front pockets of my Jumper before proceeding to go into the computers department of Harvey Norman. So my friend and I were browsing around the shop for a couple of minutes, before noticing that we wore getting a lot of stares by the sales staff around the shop. One approached us and asked us if we required any assistance in which I replied "no thanks, we're just having a look around". Which is fine until as we are browsing and we notice that the staff, and what also seemed to be the store manager to who I to have learned is Colin Curtis, are quite obviously following us around and keeping a very very close eye on my friend and I. At this stage the shop was quite empty and I start to feel very intimidated about how the members of staff where around me so we started to walk towards the exit out of the computers department where the store managers was standing at the security fences, waiting for us to pass. We obviously pass it with no alarm, feeling very uneasy about the whole situation. As I'm walking away I turn back towards the store manager and say, from about 10 feet away, "is there a problem?". He walks towards me and says "what's in your pocket", so with no hesitation I take out the game and the receipt from Smyth's and say "I purchased that in Smyth's before I came in here". His only reply was "Oh sorry we taught you had one of our games in your pocket" and proceeded to walk back to the store" I have honestly never felt so embarrassed in my life. I understand to a certain extent why they taught what they did as it was showing through my front pocket but that is NOT how you should handle a situation where you think somebody is stealing. You never accused me of stealing but I would have preferred to be accused than surrounded and stared at. That is not how you treat your "customers" Harvey Norman. Luke
