My former PCP had recently diagnosed me with hypothyroidism and I had started to feel some symptoms such as fatigue, etc. Instead of talking with me, Dr. Abbo started to talk at me and 1. said my former PCP shouldn't have started treatment even though I had symptoms even with sub clinical hypothyroidism and that since I had depression and anxiety, my symptoms were related to that. 2. When I expressed concern about potential weight gain (I had actually lost weight rather than gained it, it turned out), instead of just leaving it at "nope you actually lost weight not gained it", he offered to prescribe me water pills so I would feel less bloated (a diuretic). The icing on the cake? My numbers had increased since my last visit and even though it was only a little bit, Dr. Abbo completely dismissed my concern and refused to order additional blood test after the fact. He also attributed my symptoms to my pre existing mental health issues. I ended up going to another doctor two months later (I'm in grad school so it's hard for me to juggle everything), my tsh had substantially increased and my doctor was appalled that he had refused to order an additional test since I was having symptoms. I don't know if he judged me because I was a young woman with pre existing mental health conditions or he was in a bad mood but I have never before been treated like that. I don't like to leave bad reviews but this was an awful experience

I was seeing him as my PCP and another specialist- and switched over to only seeing him as I appreciated his attention and care to wanting to improve my overall health. I also received more insight from him than I did while seeing the specialist so I was more comfortable with his guidance regarding that issue. I feel like if he wasn't a doctor he would make a wonderful therapist haha. He has such a great demeanor and that's really important when seeing a doctor and needing to feel at ease and trust them. I will add that scheduling availability can be very limited for last minute type of appointments. (This was awhile ago and the only time I did it).. but he has called me back when I left a message with his office while he was off. I was having a tough moment with some symptoms so it was really appreciated!! Also he has a really nice nurse he works with. I cannot think of her name right now but she's been with him for a long time and is so sweet.

Every time I have called to schedule an appointment, she acts as if she is doing me a huge favor. I have scheduled all of my appointments at his Glenview location, however, when I turned up for my appointment, I was told that the doctor was not in because I had been scheduled for the Chicago office. Even though I took the day off work, there was no apology, and she made it difficult to reschedule. When I returned to the Glenview schedule after taking the day off work AGAIN, Dr. Yoo and his nurse were very friendly and approachable. The procedure went well and I felt comfortable. Dr. Yoo did the interior stitches, but had a resident do the outer stitches. While the Dr. is very personable, I am surprised to see others state that he explained things well. Dr. Yoo did not explain what he was doing or offer any information if I did not ask (or know to ask) first. When the procedure was finished, I was given discharge papers by the nurse, I was taught how to properly care for my wound, and told I would need to take an antibiotic. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and there was no order placed. I called Dr. Yoo's call center, where they said they would page him, and still, after several hours, my prescription was not called in. I called several times again, and was told this time he would be paged "urgently", and my prescription was still not called in, and then the pharmacy closed. This is unacceptable. The staff at the call center were very courteous, but they asked for lots of details regarding my medication that should not be my responsibility as a patient: what dosage of the antibiotic I need, what frequency - how should I know? I'm not the doctor. I can't even imagine if this had been an emergency - the doctor is nowhere to be found! It took almost 24 hours before I was able to procure my prescription, and by then, my wound was a bit inflamed. This likely could have been avoided if the Dr. made it possible to adhere to his own plan. Eventually the next day, a nurse did call and apologize, and my prescription order was sent to my pharmacy. In Sum/TL;DR: Dr. Yoo and his nurses are nice enough, but his secretary is rude and things are poorly organized. I would consider going in again to have something small removed, because believe it or not, he was easier to schedule with than other dermatologists (e.g. shorter waiting times for appointments, accepts most insurance, convenient location). However, be advised: Dr. Yoo is pretty much impossible to reach if there are complications or if something happens after-hours, and if you are having a serious procedure, the risks aren't worth it.

I had two lip lesions that were benign but slowly growing and I wanted them removed. My dermatologist at Chicago Lakeshore Medical, Dr. Smith, recommended a certain type of laser for the lips, found at the NMH dermatology department. I called for an appointment and received a consultation within two days - very unusual and positive. When I was seen by Dr. Yoo and a medical resident, timely by the way, they suggested that if I could just wait for 15-20 minutes they could perform the procedure. Of course, I accepted, popped down to Corner Bakery for a sandwich and returned. The doctor and his staff were compassionate, efficient and professional. The laser did not hurt whatsoever even though they warned me; of course I had topical anesthetic. Their promise of rrsults is evident three weekds later. The elsions have all but disappeared. It helped me that I had prior minor surgery to remove one under my upper lip because Ihave herpes simplex andamy disruption or wound causes fever blisters and swelling. But the effect of the laser was minimal and I am very pleased. Such therapy is expensive but worth it in my case. Dr. Yoo made a return visit for 4-6 weeks but it won't be necessary. The office is very efficient and comfortable in the Arkes Family Pavilion on St. Clair.

I used to have ongoing sinus infections or chest congestion after colds I couldn't shake, and she always took it seriously and had quick and helpful remedies. In my past experience, most doctors shrugged those symptoms off or were at a loss for solutions. She is also great for preventive care. I recommended her to a coworker. Upon seeing her for just a routine visit, Dr. Royston immediately noticed a troubling skin lesion and correctly diagnosed my coworker with skin cancer. With me, I always feel like she is on the case looking to prevent future issues: getting my oversized thyroid checked out for possible cancer, listening to my complaints about swollen hands and getting me tested for rheumatoid arthritis, checking to make sure I am scheduled for a colonoscopy given my age. She delves into family medical history, and she asks about my exercise routine (or lack of). I just had my annual physical with her and came in with 8 written questions, thinking she would never have the time for all of them. It is Northwestern, and regardless of which department you are seeing, at some point you may feel like it's a bit of a factory pushing people in and out. But she had time for all 8 questions, and I'm glad I asked. Some of her answers were surprising and in a good way. The office is also very efficient. I've never had to wait to get in. I actually got there early last time, and Dr. Royston saw me right away. Even though it is downtown, the practice feels like a family practice. I noticed I've been seeing the same nurse there for over 10 years. The nurses have given me good tips, like after a flu shot, and I've never had a painful blood draw in their labs. I can't recommend this practice highly enough. There may be a time or two when you feel like things are going quickly, but then just let the nurse or Dr. Royston know you have more questions. They will listen.

I came here to see Dr. Ng in November for a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. The entire staff was…read morereally friendly and had great bedside manners. They were able to ease my nerves as it's my first time ever getting these procedures. The team sent me all the instructions I needed prior to the procedure to help me prepare. The only downside to this experience is that they couldn't find my vein for a while, and there was no other option but to give anesthesia through IV. Some facilities have backup options like laughing gas. They ultimately found it, just in time for my procedure. The entire procedure took about an hour, I woke up pretty quickly, and I was also surprised how quickly they were able to get my results. They had images of the findings for me. The only thing that took a couple of days was biopsy. I'd totally come back to this facility in the future, and I'd recommend Dr. Ng and her team to anyone in the area looking for all things gastroenterology related.

Appointments that are critical, and should be scheduled with-in days, or a few weeks, are often only available months out.
