My appointment was on July 2 at 1:00 PM. Unfortunately, I got a flat tire on the highway because my…read moretire pressure suddenly dropped to zero within minutes. As soon as it happened, I called the office before my appointment time to explain the situation and let them know I would definitely be there by 1:30 PM. The front desk staff told me that if I was more than 15 minutes late, my appointment would be canceled--no exceptions. Luckily, I managed to get there at 1:15 PM after dealing with the tire emergency. During the phone call, I explained that I'm pregnant and that my doctor is very concerned about me receiving my medication on schedule. Delaying or rescheduling my infusion could affect the effectiveness of my treatment and potentially trigger a serious flare-up during my pregnancy. Despite explaining the medical urgency and the emergency I was facing, the front desk staff still insisted that because the next day was a holiday, the schedule was completely full. I understand that offices have policies and busy schedules, but this was a genuine emergency--not someone simply showing up late without notice. My infusion appointment lasts about two hours, and I believed there could have been some flexibility or willingness to work with me. Instead, I felt like I was being treated as an inconvenience rather than a patient with a legitimate medical need. I also want to point out that many of the patients receiving treatment here are undergoing chemotherapy or other infusion therapies. These patients often need extra accommodation, understanding, and compassion. It was heartbreaking to experience such a rigid and unsympathetic attitude during a genuine emergency. One of the nurses suggested that I simply switch my future appointments to Mondays. I was honestly shocked by that response. My issue wasn't about which day my appointments were scheduled--it was about how I was treated when I encountered an unavoidable emergency. Rather than showing empathy, the response felt dismissive. I've been coming to this office for infusions every two months, so I'm very familiar with how the clinic operates. During this visit, I spent about two hours in the infusion center, and it was not unusually busy. The patient volume appeared normal. I also observed staff chatting about their vacation plans and working at a relaxed pace. Based on what I experienced, it was difficult to understand why there was absolutely no flexibility for a patient dealing with an unexpected medical and transportation emergency. Healthcare is about more than following policies--it's about caring for people. Policies are important, but they should never replace compassion, especially for patients receiving infusion therapy, cancer treatment, or those who are pregnant and rely on time-sensitive medications. This experience left me feeling frustrated, unsupported, and deeply disappointed. I sincerely hope the management reviews how patients are treated in exceptional circumstances. He introduced his self and gave we a brief overview of my situation and what he thought should happen. Asked my bf and I if we had any questions. After one question he stood up then proceeded to open the door. We both looked at him like he was crazy and said we had questions. He said he had other patients and he did my doctor a favor by seeing me. Being told you have cancer and that being your first interaction with a doctor about it was not what I thought would happen. We left and I was mad. I let my primary doctor know and he apologized and said he was the best, give him another chance. We thought about it and did. Got there a little early and still ended up waiting a few hours. Didn't want that to be a habit so I left. Felling defeated. Months later I went home (east coast) to see my parents. I went to a appointment with my mom and she told the nurses about me having trouble finding a good doctor. One of the nurses mentioned that a few doctors left Chester, PA and moved to California. She printed out the information and the top page said The Oncology Institute Of Hope and Innovation. I couldn't believe it. I was about to get in to see Dr. Shum. I believe everything happens for a reason. I'm glad the other doctor was a shit show and so was his office and staff. If I didn't find him I would have kept DCIS and had No surgery. The east coast is a whole different vibe. More direct but with love and no agenda. Genuinely caring and not dismissive or take a number and sit down. Dr. Shum made me feel like I was down the street from Wawa. Lol. Comfortable. Answered all of our questions, explained everything, not once making me feel rushed or like he didn't care. It's crazy I had to go to the east coast to find a GREAT, caring oncologist. Happy I went through it with him as my doctor. If I had to do it again( knock on wood that I don't) he would be my first call. So thank you Dr. Shum and Kathy.

I have tried changing the day and time of my appointments, but I always seem to have to wait for extended periods of time. Then I am seen by the doctor for about 5 minutes and he never seems to remember me as his patient. He also googles the answer to my questions. It's frustrating to know that I have to spend all day waiting in the crowded waiting area just so the doctor can get paid (He has literally stated that I have to make these appointments so he can get paid even though we are just monitoring the effects of a medication through blood work). I know I have a pretty rare blood disorder, but I wish I could just monitor my status through lab results, skip the visit and just send them a check in the mail. Though the staff is nice, it is not enough to compensate for the horrendous wait time and insignificant encounter with Dr. Steven Wong.

I went and had my infusion and my insurance told me that it's not going to cost me anything and when I went there, they told me that there is a copayment. I told them no my insurance says there's not they said if you don't pay then you can't get the infusion so I paid and I was right and they owe me the money. Cannot get in touch with anyone only get overseas customer service that has not helped. They can't speak to me I've tried to reach the corporate office and they bring me back to the overseas customer service. I did finally speak to somebody in July who told me that it should be there the check should be here in two weeks again it is now October 20 25 and I did speak to somebody the other day at corporate office who said that they were sending it out I got a check for $15 not for 75. This company is terrible when it comes to their business so if you have anything with your insurance, beware
