I went here for years for general cleaning, no problems. They then recommended two crowns, about 1 year apart. In each case I was told they looked fairly straightforward, and the chance of root canal was low. In both cases expensive root canals were required after the fact. In the first instance, the tooth kept hurting more and more for over a week after the permanent crown was on. They finally had to take the permanent crown off and do the root canal. For the second crown, at least they realized it was infected while the temporary crown was off.
I was upset and asked the new owner of the practice for some kind of discount. She was very abrasive and just kept telling me I had signed waivers accepting that this could happen.
I talked to another dentist who said while the odds of root canal on a crown were moderately high (so needing two unplanned root canals wasn't extraordinary), he said that most dentists would offer some kind of discount, since they want to keep customers happy. Clearly this practice did not believe in this, so I have stopped using them. read more
