Tacoma Family Eyecare is located in the optical section of the Tacoma Costco (37th Street). They…read morehave appointment booking capability from their website, however, I was already at Costco when I decided to pop in to make a new patient appointment. They were able to get me in within the same week! The receptionist was helpful and friendly, with the ability to answer my questions regarding insurance and what the eye exam entailed. I opted for an appointment that would give me both my glasses and contact prescription. The day of my appointment, I filled out a quick questionnaire to establish my care as a patient, and one of their techs performed the initial eye exam ($40 out of pocket, covered by certain insurances, but a very important eye exam as it checks your eye health). Dr. Kathy Kim was the optometrist I saw the day of my appointment. She began with asking if I had my glasses with me ('dOh, I forgot to bring them!) but I was able to tell her the power of each eye from a prescription from 1.5 years ago before I moved to Tacoma. Th usual eye exam commenced, with having to read the letters with one eye, and then the other. Dr. Kim mentioned the slight astigmatism that I've heard I've had for a while, but hadn't been corrected by other optometrists/ophthalmologists. She gave me the option to do the regular contacts I was accustomed to, but also suggested trying toric contact lenses to adjust for the astigmatism. Dr. Kim explained that these type of lenses would reduce squinting, and help with driving at night, reducing glare. Her receptionist was able to give me trials for both the regular contacts with my updated prescription (same day), and ordered trial torics which came in several days later. What I loved about Dr. Kim was her demeanor. She was professional, and able to build a great rapport during the quick 15 minute exam! She allowed me to look at the eye health screen (your vision is priceless, it's worth the $40!) and let me know that they have a 90 day follow up policy to have the lenses adjusted, should I not love the trials before ordering my contact supply. 5/5 highly recommend! (P.S. I don't believe you need a Costco membership to utilize this clinic in Costco).

I'm honestly really disappointed with my experience here. One of the most frustrating parts is that…read morethere's no clear way to contact the office besides calling the front desk--no email or direct way to address concerns. About a month ago, I called ahead specifically to ask if they could put prescription lenses into my Meta glasses. I was told yes, but that I'd need to schedule an eye exam first. I waited a full month for that appointment, came in today, went through the entire exam process, and only at the very end was I told they could not put lenses in my frames because I didn't purchase them there. This was especially confusing because I've brought in my own frames before and had lenses put in without any issue. I was then told they would be able to help if I had purchased Meta glasses directly through them, which felt inconsistent and frustrating. I did everything right on my end--I called ahead, asked questions, confirmed pricing, and came prepared. In the end, I used my yearly insurance benefit on an appointment that didn't meet my needs and walked out with nothing. It felt like a complete waste of time. Because of this experience, we'll be finding a new eye care provider. The lack of clear communication and consistency just doesn't work for me.

At a wellness visit at the beginning of the school year, it came to our attention that my oldest…read moreson was possibly in need of glasses. Our pediatrician recommended we take him to a legit optometrist place (and not just a large chain) to get him correctly examined. I found Family EyeCare Associates on Yelp and so glad I did! Check-in was simple and easy and all the front desk ladies working that morning absolutely loved my son and were great with him. During his exam, the eye care assistants (not sure what they are officially called, sorry!) were great with him and his five year old energy and silliness during the exam as well. We ended up seeing Dr. Pincock who was really kind and great with my son as well. He was super thorough in his exam with my son and made him really comfortable with every step of the process. We were able to find out that my son really was in need of glasses, and out the door (after insurance) for his exam and fancy bendable glasses, it was only $80! So glad to have discovered this spot and we'll continue to make them our primary eye care office.

He had said I would need cataract surgery but he didn't push it and left it to me for when I was ready and couldn't function. Finally, it was time. He willingly postponed it when we were apprehensive in March when the COVID-19 virus had so much uncertainty. Now he scheduled me and my right eye was a breeze. The operating room staff was friendly and put me at ease. Post operative was simple and I was out of the office in an hour. When I was concerned about a post operative question, he replied promptly. I would highly recommend him. All of the staff are well trained and polite and professional. Next week I am scheduled for my left eye cataract surgery!

Upon arrival, I was informed that they did not accept my insurance. They claimed to have called me regarding this but did not leave a voicemail to discuss the issue. The front office staff initially suggested a self-pay option, but when I inquired further, I was told that self-pay was not available either. This experience highlights the breakdown in the healthcare system and a lack of accountability on their part in two instances. 0 accountab=0 stars
