At 57 years old, I feel that having a wisdom tooth removed as an adult is a very different experience than it may be for a teenager, and I expected more individualized guidance about what to expect during recovery. The written aftercare instructions were insufficient and did not adequately prepare me for the recovery process. After the procedure, there was no discussion about how the procedure went, what to expect over the next several days, how long pain and discomfort might reasonably last, or what symptoms would be considered normal versus concerning. I also was not offered an off-work note or given any guidance about whether I should plan to take time away from work. My biggest concern was not necessarily the procedure itself, but the lack of communication afterward. Patients should leave an oral surgery appointment feeling informed and prepared for their recovery, especially when they are older adults who may have different recovery needs than younger patients. I hope the office will consider improving its post-procedure communication and providing more detailed, age-appropriate expectations and guidance for future patients.

And my nerves were out the window and down the street the morning of my surgery. Dr Hughes's team was stellar EVERY last employee was smiling and kind and telling me that everything would be fine. I had a pre-op meeting with Dr. Hughes and my husband so I would have post-op info before sedation. The Dr cleared up a lot of facts about recovery. He was absolutely genuine and caring. He eased my nerves by simply being kind. When I was moved to operation room he had 2 other staff in there and they were so gentle so sweet. I went night night and came too as they were wheeling me to the car. I can't sing their praises enough. I will always recommend Dr. Hughes. Him and his team went above and beyond. Edit: 1 week post-op and I'm feeling great! This oral surgeon is magnificent! I highly highly highly recommend him if your insurance covers his work! His work is so unbelievably precise and careful. Days before your appointment, the office sends a text to complete your pre-appt paperwork and you can also e-check in days in advance. My dentists have changed a couple of times since being a patient here. But that's expected of dental practices nowadays. Once thing that's been constant here is my hygienist, Kandyce Fillmore. Kandyce has always been thorough and patient when rendering my teeth cleanings. She goes in detail about any issues and treatment plans before charging you.
