Well. I am somewhat disappointed on this trip to this place. I finally came here for dinner, full of hope. Unfortunately on this visit the service was average, firstly the waitress want to remove my food before i was even half finished. I then proceeded to dine, my wine glass was empty for nearly 30 minutes. The same waitress returned to finally removed my plate. At no stage did she enquire as to why still meat on my plate and started to walk away. I had to quickly asked for another glass of wine. I ordered the small beef ribs and i cant believe they were so different. One was succulent and juicy seasoned well... the second unfortunately was over seasoned fatty and chewy. Whilst this place is my favourite breakfast. I will be hard pressed to recommend for dinner.

Maybe my review is not justified as you want to come here for their bacon, ribs, burgers and thick shakes. Lots of parking but super full as it's conveniently located in the proximity of port melbourne beach. Quite small inside with outdoor seating as well. Got really busy around 1pm for some reason. Coffee is very very robust and acrid. Friends ordered the classic burger and beef ribs. Complained about cost but loved their meals. The side of sweet but spicy bacon was a novelty and was thoroughly enjoyed. My green eggs were really weird tasting. Like almost rotten. But the tender lamb shoulder was delicious. They do half meals which is awesome We waited 60 minutes for our meal and were only told about the wait after inquiring about it. They gave us free coffees but it wasn't worth the wait. I didn't enjoy my meal but perhaps I ordered the wrong dish.

Port Melbourne is one of those suburbs where trendy dining options hasn't really taken off yet. There are a handful of good ones slowly coming in, but for every great spot there's probably 2-3 crap ones. I was really to pass TWC off untried, but some glowing Yelp reviews prompted me to give it a shot before passing judgement. Well the Yelpers were right (of course!), this is a nice little cafe. They use their own blend of 5 Senses coffee - I ordered two long blacks back to back, very drinkable. Although I only trust one of their baristas, the other doesn't seem to care much. The menu is extensive and covers a lot of bases. Vegetarians, Gluten Free, Paleo, bacon-lovers, poached egg fiends - all bases are covered at breakfast time. There's quite a few Russian dishes dotted throughout too like blintzes. Produce suppliers are all high quality locals and listed in the front of the menu. For lunch (which I haven't tried yet), it looks like there's a focus on slow cooked meat like brisket and lamb. The service was pretty slow and patchy, but I was being served by a nervous young backpacking Rob-Pattinson type who was trying his best (side note: this is not a compliment in my books, maybe don't get your hopes up if you're a Twilight fan). There was promise of free wifi, although when I came the internet seemed to be down so I couldn't take advantage. A very casual suburban cafe that may surprise you. Definitely worth giving a shot if you're in the area.

A. May. Zing. Great food. Great value. People were so friendly. I was scared because some reviews said the staff were rude?? but I saw someone seated impatiently outside, and then stepped in clicking his fingers at the cute waiter going "um where's our menus??" Like... they were right there, he could have just taken 2 by himself. I don't know. Maybe the customers that left those reviews are impaired in some way? The waiters/waitresses that helped me and my posse were very very friendly. One thing I'll comment on is that I ordered eggs Benedict, and one of my friends ordered scrambled eggs. His eggs came but mine never did, but we were charged for my eggs Bene?? Odd. Genuine mistake, totally fine. I was so stuffed honestly I was scared they were still making mine. 1000% I will come again. We ordered the August special "mountain" or something (pic attached). The one where they have 3 ribs, bunch of bacon, some Mac n cheese, and some waffle chips (they were damn good). And a couple coffees/milkshakes, and the scrambled eggs. Came to ~$75. Very good value, for all that meat. Oh and the presentation. My goodness. Phenomenal. It was crowded but honestly that's just a testament to how good they are. Looks filthy on the outside but that's just the classic Port Melbourne facade.

Food was fantastic, staff very attentive & as soon as our water was 1/3 empty they would come & fill our water up & leave. Everyone else that was dining was very happy & the food looked amazing on all the tables.

The first day in Australia, I was craving a big, hearty sandwich, a rarity in Japan. A quick Google…read moresearch led me to Bowery to Williamsburg. The name suggests a connection to the street or bridge in NYC. Am I correct? Located in the alley between Flinders and Collins, parallel to Russell, it was a bit unexpected to find this eatery here. With plenty of tables on the patio and inside, the atmosphere was inviting. Being alone, I didn't want to occupy a larger table, so I decided to grab my order to go. After glancing over the menu, my eyes locked on the 'Reuben,' thinking 'this can't go wrong.' The staff were kind and friendly. Despite not dining in, they allowed me to sit and wait at a table. After a few minutes, I received my order and rushed back to the hotel because I couldn't wait! Excitement led me to open the box like a treasure chest, revealing a huge sandwich - the portion I had been searching for. In Japan, where I live, the general trend is to reduce portions to maintain prices rather than increase prices to keep portions consistent in the face of inflation. Now you understand how crucial this is. Another crucial aspect - the taste was on point. With a generous portion of meat, it dominated the experience along with the sourness from the pickled cabbage. It was a bit too sour for my taste, but I assume that's how a Reuben usually tastes. Overall, I was really pleased with this place and would love to come back again.

As the name suggests, there are hats everywhere, which gives it an awful of lot character, and they also have some pretty decent craft beers on tap as well. Oh, and the background music was pretty awesome as well, to the point that I found it hard to bring myself to leave. Oh, and it wasn't too packed either, which is also a bonus.

Inside, wrestling is playing on the telly, a back bar filled with a large array of interesting bottles, guitars are played over the PA system and, unless you new to look, the bar would look tiny. When you first arrive, it probably doesn't look that impressive, it's just another pub on the a corner in Melbourne, but it is so much more. First off, they have beer pong Sunday's. Secondly, they have a wicked garden. When you enter the bar, turn right, and walk outside. The garden is quite reminiscent of an English pub, which makes me all kinds of happy. Thirdly, they have a Zoolander sign above the bar. OK, the list of great things goes on and I haven't even started to talk about their fried chicken, potato gems and all of the other food they do. Grab a table outside with friends and drink booze for hours, and they do wicked stuff like serve espresso martini's on tap (with cream in takeaway coffee cups!). Their bar staff are also a lot of fun and will totally get into the fun of the night with you. From hospo crew, to people strolling past, Hat's is the dingy Cheers of South Melbourne, with an added bit of attitude and punch to really bring the charm home.

The reason for this is cause wherever I have been, if that burger is good, then everything else on the menu tends to be great. The reason I say this is because everywhere I have tried the vegetable burger, I go back and everything else is also amazing. But if that is not good, then everything else will be at best, mediocre. Well this was probably the best veggie burger I've had. My wife had a spicy chicken burger which she really enjoyed (same as my brother in law) and we also tried tater tots, poutine fries and jalapeno poppers. Everything eat great and I would definitely tell people to go try this place out. The only 2 things to mention is that it's very loud so it will be hard to have a conversation with friends, and that if it had rained before, avoid sitting at outside tables like we did add you will find slugs on the table or the wall and discover that they actually move pretty fast :p not to mention one was at the side of my cup and I discovered it as I went to drink. Fortunately this was at the end of my meal or it would have really ruined everything. So seriously avoid sitting outdoors or best the tree, if it has recently rained. If it weren't for these two minor things, id give it 5 stars. I can't really blame the establishment for this (although having some sort of outdoor covering could stop this issue).

I have to say, THIS is by far.... THE BEST recommendation we've ever received! The restaurant was a tad bit difficult to find, having not been to Australia and not being familiar with basement restaurants, lol. It had quite a unique secluded vibe from the moment the door swung open. The atmosphere was almost hypnotic! There weren't too many patrons eating when we arrived .. but we did arrive shortly after opening. By the time we were finished the tables were 75% occupied, I think in part to only being open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday. The food, as well as the service were both TOP NOTCH! I don't typical care for red meat... but I ordered steak and it was extremely well-prepared! So delicious!!! I asked for it to be well done! It DID come out charcoaled so I made a comment to my husband that was over-heard by the chef, himself! Moments later, he personally delivered a new dinner plate to me with a replacement! Now THAT'S what I call top-notch service! I REALLY wish Meatmaiden would expand to the US! That would be the icing on the cake!!!

We can't brag enough about our new find. COVID stopped our travels to Melbourne for three years but hopefully no longer. We selected some winners. They were: 1) Grilled Bread with Beef Fat Butter; 2) 350g Westholme Wagu NY Strip; 3) GEM Lettuce salad; and 4) Hand cut chips. - The Grilled Bread was actually a fried bread that was then brushed with honey and lightly grilled on the bbq. The Beef Fat Butter was awesome. My spouse didn't care for it but I adored it. - Grilled Wagu NY Strip was 330+ day grain fed which only intensified the marble and added so much taste. Not a bite left and it was almost 13 ounces of pure meat. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare (-) temperature. It came with a choice of a sauce and we paid for an additional one. The Three Pepper Sauce and the Beef Fat Bernaise. Both were awesome. I need the recipes! - GEM Lettuce Salad with radishes and dressed with a Burnt Grapefruit Vinaigrette. The vinaigrette made the salad. - Hand Cut Chips w/ a Garlic Aioli - another perfect taste. The chips had a great crispy outside with a very smooth inside. And the Aioli was addictive. Do no pass this great place by. We did not have reservations but should have. We got there early and they were slammed. We saw two empty tables and they offered us one by the front entrance. We eyed the other table and they said "if you can be finished in 1 1/2 hours...we laughed and said there would be no problem and probably be out of here in an hour! MeatMaiden was so upbeat. We just kept looking around in awe. Two old ladies eating in a basement. The atmosphere is awesome. Somewhat darkly lit but light enough to see your food. Very high energy crowd. Service was spectacular. Toward the end of our meal the hostess came over and said we could stay a bit longer. We said thanks but not needed. Highly recommend and also recommend making an advanced booking. Enjoy.
