My husband and I knew we had to try Third Wave while in town, after seeing it pop up on our Instagram algorithms. We are both big fans of meat/BBQ so we were so excited to check it out!! As delicious as everything looked, we ultimately ended up splitting a BBQ platter for 1 with some pork ribs added on... and it was still sooooo much food that we left stuffed! All the meat was great, but we both agreed the pork ribs were our favorite. Outside of that, the beef rib and oink ball also stood out. One other thing that really stood out to us, was their sauces. They were fantastic! Not just what they use to cook their meats, but the side sauces. Nuclear wave was a nice habanero sauce with great smokiness and solid heat that paired perfectly with the meats. They have happy hour on certain drinks from open until 6pm on certain days, so be sure to pair a beer with it! read more

I have never experienced such powerful food. Absolutely delicious. A meat platter that prided itself in higher qaulity. It just felt like they were giving it 100 percent. Such a blunt but exceptional approach worthy of the rating I gave it. Onion rings were crunchy and impressive. Wings were beuitiful. The sauce, in multiple occasions was at the perfect level, they didn't make it too strong. The big stuff was the most impressive. Despite its immense, Headstrong appearance the food was actually easy and enjoyable to eat and handle. Every single item was impressive apart from the bread, the buns. Which were boring. So you gotta use it to make a sandwich or something and make the most out of it. Wish I could of given the bubblegum milk shake a chance. Great atmosphere as well. Worthy of 5 stars. I traveled across the world to get here. Well I was going to other places but made sure I came here. I was severly unimpressed with the place after the hype. Their attitude on social media and the actual in stpre experience were 2 completely different things. I am the first to admit I am was really looking forward to this experience. I wanted to experience the atmosphere they seem to protray online. I made me reservations.. which they put a 20.00 hold on your credit card for and if you don't show up you are charged. I kind of understand.. but wow.. that's a bit excessive. There was onetable of 4 when I arrived at my reservation for 5 pm early. I ordered their November special.. The Cube Burger. I was very disappointed in this decision. It was not served with anything other than itself. I ordered a small portion of Mac and Cheese to go. The burger itself had some flavor.. the rest was just wrong. It was a loaf of over dry bread that couldn't not be eaten. I think it has sat for a bit before it was served because as you can see the "melted" cheese on top was already completely hard. I ate the inside and had enough by then so I paid and left. When I got back to the hotel a few hours later I attempted the Mac and Cheese and again was very disappointed. I am not sure who they learned AMerican BBQ from but it wasn't even close. Over cooked noodles and I am not sure what type of cheese they used but it didn't taste like much of anything. It was a vacation experience... My husband went to Third Wave for a work dinner and brought some wings home -- and wow, they were hands down the best wings I've had in Melbourne! Perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and the sauce was packed with great flavor. Not too sweet, not too spicy -- just right. Now I seriously can't wait to visit for myself and try the rest of the menu. If the wings are this good, I can only imagine what everything else is like. His eggs came but mine never did, but we were charged for my eggs Bene?? Odd. Genuine mistake, totally fine. I was so stuffed honestly I was scared they were still making mine. We ordered the August special "mountain" or something. The one where they have 3 ribs, bunch of bacon, some Mac n cheese, and some waffle chips (they were so good). And a couple coffees/milkshakes, and the scrambled eggs. Came to ~$75. Very good value, for all that meat. They do like to beef up a lot of their meals with macaroni, though, but it doesn't detract much from the overall value. Oh and the presentation. My goodness. Phenomenal. Hi there Today was my Birthday. I received your email offering me a free dinner, up to $80. I clicked the button to book, and in the comments, I mentioned it was my birthday. When we got there tonight, the restaurant was half empty, I asked to be sited downstairs, I was told that they were booked. I explained that I, too, booked; what is the difference? No reply, I was told to go upstairs. A bit rude, but No big deal. We had a nice dinner, when we came to pay the bill, I told the manager ( I think) that we had the birthday voucher. He told me that I should have ordered from the birthday menu, and because I didn't he was not going to give us the discount. Again quite rude in his manner and delivery. I explained that I booked from the birthday email, the direct link, I put in the comments that it was my birthday, and I expected that someone would tell me and offer me the birthday menu. Again very rudely, he said that he couldn't keep track of everyone. What was supposed to be a nice family birthday dinner was ruined by a rude manager who failed in his job to manage and notify the customers of the requirements. Well. I am somewhat disappointed on this trip to this place. I finally came here for dinner, full of hope. Unfortunately on this visit the service was average, firstly the waitress want to remove my food before i was even half finished. I then proceeded to dine, my wine glass was empty for nearly 30 minutes. The same waitress returned to finally removed my plate. At no stage did she enquire as to why still meat on my plate and started to walk away. I had to quickly asked for another glass of wine. I ordered the small beef ribs and i cant believe they were so different. One was succulent and juicy seasoned well... the second unfortunately was over seasoned fatty and chewy. Whilst this place is my favourite breakfast. I will be hard pressed to recommend for dinner. read more

Maybe my review is not justified as you want to come here for their bacon, ribs, burgers and thick shakes. Lots of parking but super full as it's conveniently located in the proximity of port melbourne beach. Quite small inside with outdoor seating as well. Got really busy around 1pm for some reason. Coffee is very very robust and acrid. Friends ordered the classic burger and beef ribs. Complained about cost but loved their meals. The side of sweet but spicy bacon was a novelty and was thoroughly enjoyed. My green eggs were really weird tasting. Like almost rotten. But the tender lamb shoulder was delicious. They do half meals which is awesome We waited 60 minutes for our meal and were only told about the wait after inquiring about it. They gave us free coffees but it wasn't worth the wait. I didn't enjoy my meal but perhaps I ordered the wrong dish. read more

Port Melbourne is one of those suburbs where trendy dining options hasn't really taken off yet. There are a handful of good ones slowly coming in, but for every great spot there's probably 2-3 crap ones. I was really to pass TWC off untried, but some glowing Yelp reviews prompted me to give it a shot before passing judgement. Well the Yelpers were right (of course!), this is a nice little cafe. They use their own blend of 5 Senses coffee - I ordered two long blacks back to back, very drinkable. Although I only trust one of their baristas, the other doesn't seem to care much. The menu is extensive and covers a lot of bases. Vegetarians, Gluten Free, Paleo, bacon-lovers, poached egg fiends - all bases are covered at breakfast time. There's quite a few Russian dishes dotted throughout too like blintzes. Produce suppliers are all high quality locals and listed in the front of the menu. For lunch (which I haven't tried yet), it looks like there's a focus on slow cooked meat like brisket and lamb. The service was pretty slow and patchy, but I was being served by a nervous young backpacking Rob-Pattinson type who was trying his best (side note: this is not a compliment in my books, maybe don't get your hopes up if you're a Twilight fan). There was promise of free wifi, although when I came the internet seemed to be down so I couldn't take advantage. A very casual suburban cafe that may surprise you. Definitely worth giving a shot if you're in the area. read more

I've always told my friends how good this place is (as well as their sister cafe in Prahran). But recently I ordered home delivery, and their proportions have gone to minuscule. I even called to complain, spoke to a guy called Chris (who didn't really seem concerned), saying their price had drop so naturally their portion had too. Now, I paid almost $100 to get half (?) a small chicken, 200g of brisket (although it's advertised on their website for 250g), a tiny serving of fries. Decent onion rings and normal sized slices of cake. And trust me, the price had not dropped. Only their portions. So if you feel like being ripped off, go ahead and order from them. But I would not recommend this place ever ever again. read more

Very impressed and it seems like many other people are too. We had always wanted to try Third Wave but the outdoor chairs were always taken. Luckily last week we spotted a spare table and snapped it up. The menu was a pleasant surprise with some creative breakfast options as well as a section for Russian options including blintzes and blini. There was also a gluten free section. My hot chocolate was like pure melted chocolate. My husband enjoyed his cappuccino. Our baked eggs with ratatouille and chorizo with ciabatta toast was hearty and tasty. The staff were very dog friendly, immediately bringing out a water bowl out for the boys. The side of bacon was also quickly gobbled up. This is a bustling little cafe and I can understand why we have not been able to get a table outside. It is very pleasant sitting under the umbrellas and enjoying breakfast. The bill was $51. Some great breakfast/brunch options incorporating various smoked meats etc. The Candy Bacon and The Hangover...Over menu options were great, and also an impressive selection of milkshakes available - the salted caramel shake was delicious! Service was a little slow (seemed to be a few staff just standing around) and food took ages to come out, but otherwise OK. My friend and I made a booking at this restaurant and told them we were bringing seeing eye dogs. When we arrived the "manager" told us the dogs were not allowed. When we told him that they were seeing eye dogs and they were allowed, he then said the restaurant was full. We then said we had a booking which was in their books. So he was now not happy, so he then wanted us to share a table with some other guests that was not big enough to accommodate us. When we inquire about the other tables that were empty, he said they were for other bookings. I don't know if the food is good, but I prefer to go to restaurants where the staff are friendly and welcoming and this restaurant did not meet that criteria. read more

The online menu really excited me but unfortunately the food wasn't as exciting :( Definitely ok, however nothing fancy and let's be honest, that's what you expect when brunching in Port Melbourne! Must admit the coffee was good though. So, being laid up in hospital in Williamstown in the AGED CARE WARD for 6+ weeks is no picnic for this self-proclaimed foodie. Seriously, you try eating pulverised hospital food that is prepared best suited to those without teeth and NOT LOSE YOUR MIND. All I have wanted whilst I have been in here is a burger. Like, is that too much to ask? Until yesterday, that answer was yes. Of all the deliverable dining options around, not one offered a burger on their menu. That is until Third Wave popped up as an option on an online food ordering / delivery website. Thank the GODS. I promptly ordered their 3 Little Piggies Burger, which is described as "Half bacon Half Porterhouse Patty, Mustard, Pickles, Our House made spicy BBQ Sauce, Cream Cheese, Candy Bacon, Tomatoes and Smokey Pulled Pork, in a tasty brioche bun." As the burger sounded like a behemoth, I opted to forego any sides options, but I could not go past a slice of Key Lime Pie to finish it off. Burger - well, perspective is key here. Let's keep in mind the comments I've already made about the food I've been having. This is A LOT of meat to chow down on when you've been having portion controlled everything. However, the patty itself is brilliant and could stand on its own. The pulled pork was nicely flavoured and the bacon was yum, but I personally like bacon on burgers to be a bit more crisp. The BBQ sauce was tangy & a bit spicy, the pickles gave some good cut through to all the meaty flavour. I actually commented to the hubs it could use something like mustard to break up the meat topped with meat topped with me. I don't know if the mustard got left off mine or if it just needed more. Also, I found the cream cheese to be well, odd. I'd much preferred nice slice of cheddar or pepper jack or colby on this combo. In short, individual ingredients, good; total flavour combo need some work in the "tanginess" department. Key Lime Pie - If you are from the southern United States, you will find that most places in Australia haven't got a clue about how to make a key lime pie. (I was born in The South and raised by generations of proud southerners. I know key lime pie and make a mighty fine one at home, if I do say so myself.) Well, Third Wave has a clue about how to make a key lime pie. They don't appear to be importing key lime juice to make the pie, but they are pretty much nailing the overall taste & texture of a traditional Key Lime Pie. Well done. Pro tip: please serve each slice with a dollop of whipped cream. Delivery person was ontime & friendly. Online ordering was a breeze. They say beggars can't be choosers and in this case, my overall impression is favourable. Grateful to have found them. read more

No chips were included, and the chicken burger was dry and had chicken bones, but the actual chicken was nice. The dessert was a joke for $12.00. Been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for dinner but the excitement faded after wanting to order the special burger for the month to be told that they didn't have anymore left. Changed my order for the cheese and bacon stuffed burger but was then mortified to bite into the burger and realise it was undercooked and still raw. After eating a loaded fries before the burger came out I told them not to worry about a burger anymore and to take it off the bill, they obliged. The loaded fries with the beef brisket was nice though! Staff members were very average and didn't look like they wanted to be there, no communication at all on whether we ordered at the till or if it was table service. When I enquired at the till they looked at me as if I was the one being impatient after sitting at our table for 10 - 12 minutes wondering what to do. All in all a pretty disappointing visit to a place I had been longing to go to for a few weeks after coming across their menu and the specials they do every month. Keen to still try the breakfast menu, hopefully I'll be delightfully surprised! read more

This is an excellent brunch/lunch cafe off the main strip in Port Melbourne. Food is great with all the usual favs and some left field options. The business is owned and run by a European family, of whom one or more are always on site. As a result, service from table to pay point is slick and well organised. read more

Whilst the food was tolerable the terrible table service and hospitality certainly wasn't. The prices were steep for the limited menu items. The food wasn't authentic American.
