This place popped up in Port Melbourne after Vanilla Bay closed down. I thought I would give it go thinking that it would either top its previous inhabitants or at least come in on par... A little disappointed with the menu and with the coffee I might add, the barista didn't appear to be all that experienced and the burnt tasting coffee confirmed it. I was really hoping for something new and tasteful however the menu and service offered on the day seemed to be the same boring solutions that every café on the strip is offering. I have reservations about dining at Crème in Port Melbourne. For starters, the staff are pretty stuck up and almost nonchalant about everything. Next the menu is pretty expensive and some dishes are way over priced. For instance, the warm calamari salad cost $18.90, which sounds usual at some places but the portion really did not justify the cost. That being said however, this hard working café opens from 6am everyday so you can get a hearty (albeit slightly over priced) meal, bright and early. And for lifestyle coffee drinkers, you can drink your fill till 10pm at night. The interior itself with its yellow and white striped walls make it quite eye catching and trendy. That's how we spotted it to begin with. And the outdoor area is large enough to accommodate lots of people on weekends. Actually, the location is great and that's why it's such a shame that my overall experience however was less than appealing. But perhaps, I'll try it again someday. I always give people and places second chances so perhaps that will be better. We'll see... read more

The power to my unit was off all day so I decided to pop in to Crème for a bite to eat. When I arrived I asked the waiter if I could charge my phone as it was flat. He was more than happy to oblige. In fact they have a battery of power points and usb ports, presumably so people can use their devices. I ordered the chicken burger which was delicious. I wasn't given a knife and fork so, assuming this was intentional, I started eating it by hand. It wasn't long before it was disintegrating in my hands and I had melted cheese and juice running down my arms. I eventually got the cutlery from a somewhat embarrassed waiter. He was really nice though so I readily forgave him. On the whole it was a pleasant experience and I would happily go back there. On the down side the toilets are constantly running out of paper, towels and hand wash sometimes for several days at s time. In spite of mentioning it several times to the waiting staff they either forget it or ignore it. Also the coffee machine is apparently supposed to be kept on until 6pm but is often turned off well ahead of time. Chairs are stacked on top of tables up to an hour before closing. We went to place our order bat the counter only to be told by a harrassed staff member, if you're eating in, take a seat, Jeremy will take yr order. 20 minutes later Jeremy arrived to take our order, ten minutes later our first coffee arrived our food arrived another 15 minutes later. Unnerving slow service. Both times I've been recently took over 30 min between order and the food actually making it to the table. Once they forgot an item (I hate when they don't write my order down and insist in keeping it all by memory). Menu used to be good but in recent times it lost some of his best items that were replaced with quite boring things. The staff walk around like they don't know what they are doing and they don't kept track of who is serving each table so you can sit down and wait for ages for someone to notice you are there The manager (dark lady) doesn't know how to smile or offer good customer service at all.. I have heard her speak bad to staff and customers. A person like her should not be in hospitality as she doesn't know how to treat people well the food there is average, 2 times I went there in a row and my food was burnt and another time I found hair in my food, honestly it's not worth even going there at all. Disappointing menu. We had breakfast at Creme today as I had noticed it always seemed busy and wanted to try it out. As soon as I saw the menu I was not impressed. It was very basic and not really any healthy options. I chose the vegetarian breakfast, one egg was cold the other was over cooked. My husband enjoyed his breakfast a little more and commented that the cappuccino was great. The location is excellent and there is plenty of seating with large tables for reading the paper, just be prepared for some wind. Table service is provided although you need to get up to get your water. We won't be eating here again as there are better options on Bay St for food, however we may call in for a coffee in the future. I tend to think the coffee is what must bring the crowds. read more

I feel like this place would have so much potential but the service is really terrible.The staff don't smile at all And look like they don't want to be there half the time. We waited 15 minutes before my partner had to Flag down the waitress who seemed so unimpressed with us disrupting her playing with the menus, she was very unenthusiastic at taking our order. Our food came out within in 15 minutes of ordering, food is good, generous servings. Organised brunch here with with a group of 20. The staff seemed unorganised and confused when it came to taking orders and delivering meals. The food was nice when it finally came out. I guess the place would be better suited to small bookings. Disappointed that they offered to try and cater to such a large group. The lunch menu is fairly unimaginative - the usual white food groups: pasta, club sandwiches, wraps, pizza and burgers and $20 salads. My wheat free option was the $20 lamb Greek salad, which was okay but nothing I couldn't have ordered from the cafe near my office. The service was friendly but they didn't overdo it. You pay at the counter. Get water from the counter. The meals arrived to our table at different times. My friend got her meal. I have given up on Creme after several chances. Since their reno (now bigger), things are worse. We ordered from an unfriendly and rude waitress. The food was OK, we ordered the Bircher muesli and the Quesidilla with chorizo and scrambled egg - both OK. After collecting our coffee cups - the waitress asks if weaned anything else, we asked for water and she just pointed over to the corner and said 'Water's self serve,' walked off to the kitchen to drop our cups off and then just stood around looking bored. What cafe with table service doesn't serve water? Also disappointed to realise there were specials after we had ordered from the bland menu. I was unfortunate enough to experience Creme for the first, and definitely last, time this morning.After being seated for approx 10 minutes a harried looking waitress curtly asked us if "we were ready to order" whilst looking in another direction.The implication very clear that we were an extreme inconvenience. A poached egg perched atop my meal had an unidentifiable grey sludge attached to it and the 'Danish' fetta had an appearance and texture consistent with athletes foot. To their credit they did refund the meal. no more credit due though, uppitty service and putrescent food combine brilliantly to make this a real contender for the worst cafe in Melb. Was at Creme Cafe with a group of about ten people last night for dinner. The menu is a little limited compared to the extensive offerings many cafe-type venues provide these days, but the quality was fine and everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered. The menu isn't going to set the world on fire: it's pretty standard cafe fare: pizzas, burgers, pasta, with a couple of other items thrown in to pep up the mix. But let's face it: sometimes all you want is just simple, simple, simple! The staff are friendly, although the (lone) waiter seemed a little unfocussed at times. Food did take a little while to arrive after ordering but, given the size of the group, I'll throw 'em a bone for that. Pleasingly, once the food did start to arrive at the table, there was very little wait between the first meal being served and the last plate being set down on the table, so no-one waited ages for food whilst everyone else ate (a pet hate of mine). The general ambiance is bright and casual, background music was a blend of cheerful pop and occasionally dance-y tunes. Summing up, Creme a very pleasant cafe, with a menu that will safely cover conservative eaters or those wanting comfortable, tasty food without having to pick through a massive list of complex eating options. If you're looking for intimacy, or a place that provides more 'fancy' eating, you'll need to look elsewhere on Bay Street. I was a bit concerned about taking a group there after reading some of the older reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised and will happily return. read more

We've been having coffee here for almost 5 yrs now and we love it. Coffee is great and the staff are really lovely. Very welcoming to children & families. Overpriced poor menu with poor quality of food and service. The coffee is utterly disgusting. Poorly trained staff who simply don't care. The machine and grinders are not clean leaving that horrible taste obscuring any original flavor the cheap beans they purchase may have had... if any. Overheated milk scorched adds the final nail into the coffin of descent coffee. Dry eggs, ham (bacon must cost too much) drenched in BBQ sauce (really) = $9. Tired looking, unpleasant staff who seem to look sad and inconvenienced when a customer walks in. Just a little up or across the road and you can find much better on Bay St. Each time I go back believing it may change it seems worse. Unfortuantely 1 star is the minimum I can rate. I would avoid Creme at every possible cost. There is a place across the road that opens at 6 AM and another just further down that's open until late as well so there is no reason to subject yourself to the horror that is Creme. read more
