According to Google and local folks either Thickety or Thicketty are both correct spellings for Thickety Mountain. I decided to drive up to the summit in my four wheel drive truck. It had been forty years since I'd done this and I didn't know what to expect. Back during the CB radio days my friends and I would go on top of Thickety at night and talk directly to people as far away as Tennessee. The Cherokee County road crew has done a remarkable job in servicing the gravel road as it used to be deeply rutted out and dangerous! My views from the top were somewhat diminished as Spring has sprung and the trees are growing leaves. There's a lot of mystery and legend about this place. Back in the day I found an old brick foundation at the base of Thickety Mountain. No one knows it's history or that it even exists. I'm a bit familiar with masonry, and it could certainly be related to the Revolutionary war period. Unfortunately, there's little interest in this find! read more
