Spartanburg chose light bulbs to be decorated and spread around the downtown area. There are 28 of these delightful sculpture/paintings. The first one I spotted was "Holiday in Shadowland" by Bailie and it's along Magnolia Street. Figures seem to be running through a candy land around the circumference. It's in great detail. There are others around and the Spartanburg Art Museum has an online guide that points the way. If you're in downtown Spartanburg and looking for a quest, definitely hunt up these lovely lights! This space is very beautiful inside and outside. LED lit trees welcome you in, which is just magical at night. Friendly workers distribute tickets at will call and great priced snacks and drinks before the show and during intermission. The bathroom can be a little hard to find, I wish there was better signage. The theatre is a perfect medium size. The seats are comfortable and the ambiance is upscale and lovely. Sound, lighting, stage design, actors were all great! I would definitely see future productions at this awesome small theatre.

On the campus are the Artists' Guild of Spartanburg County; Ballet Spartanburg; Spartanburg Art Museum; USU Upstate Art Gallery; the Spartanburg Science Museum; and the Chapman Theatre. These all have their own operating hours. The center is very easy to navigate and figure out where you want to be with the signs. I only visited the the art galleries as I arrived late in the afternoon. I would have loved to see a show at the theatre so now that I learned about the center I can follow the events as they happen frequently.

Admission is also free but donations are accepted. I didn't realize until I visited that the museum is located on land that was once the home to Cherokee Indians who were forced to leave in 1830 by the Indian Removal Act. Many ended up in Cherokee NC as they escaped by the Trail of Tears. I like that the museum is trying to reserve history. The museum wasn't large although I think I missed the permanent collection and just saw the current exhibition which was great. I enjoyed seeing the work differently looking at it from different angles. I wish I was given more guidance if more work was on the second floor. But I can check it out next time. The work presented does focus on the big issues like climate change; social justice; women's rights; and immigration. So if these types of issues are important to you, I think you will enjoy the art created by these artists.
