The drinks were relatively cheap and strong. If you've made it to Ukiah, you've probably figured out your options are limited. If you are hankerin' for a burger or a Rueben, you've come to the right place. The Thickets hours are limited and they don't open until PM so don't come for breakfast. They are closed for a couple of days during the week so check out their hours before traveling to this remote outpost for a meal. The beef comes from the owner's cattle company. Unfortunately the service at the Thicket has taken a down hill dive Our large group went in a few nights ago about an hour and a half before the bar closed intending to have dinner. We were told the grill had closed and were handed the bar menu of fried food. The lady behind the bar spent the rest of the evening complain about a little bit of everything. As the bar continued to fill up with hungry elk hunters, she continued to complain. Decided to give it another chance this evening. We went in and sat down after confirming the grill was open. The same lady as the evening before handed out our menus, then proceeded to complain about a negative Facebook review left from the previous evening. After calling the poster a 'keyboard warrior" and saying the poster had "big balls behind a wall" we got up and left. Running a restaurant is not for the faint of heart, but complaining to your customers is a sure fire way to run them off. We are locals. We stopped in here for food several times a year. Not anymore. If your looking for something to eat in Ukiah, I recommend stopping at the city park and visiting Penny's. read more

This place is awesome! Ordered a couple breakfast burritos, at lunch time, but they made them for us anyways. They were HUGE!!!! AND SO DELICIOUS!!! The owners are super cool too! Saw some others having Beef brisket that was to die for! Slow smoked over 16 hours!! And heard their Prime Rib dinners are the best around! read more

We have been coming here for years and arrived to find The Thicket had been sold, in March of 2021. We were still looking for that old nostalgic food, great service at reasonable prices. How do you screw up a bacon cheeseburger. No condiments, you had to hunt for a drink and oh, the hours are totally different. Can't just expect to stop in for breakfast because they aren't open. To the old guard ( owners and employees) we miss you, the great food and atmosphere. BTW, Heppner isn't that far and Bucknum's Tavern had got the food you want. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch... I ordered the hamburger steak which on the menu said hamburger patty with mushroom and onion gravy... I love hamburger steak and have ate and made it myself many times... my friend ordered the patty melt When our food arrived my hamburger steak was covered in white sausage gravy with mushrooms and onions on top of the gravy... my friend patty melt wasn't even grilled and the cheese wasn't even melted... the food was not great and definitely not what traditionally a hamburger steak or patty melt would be not was it even what was advertised in the menu The service was horrible it's pretty bad when you're the only ones in there and you have to interrupt the bartenders phone time to ask for another beverage... mine you this place is tiny! The bartender never asked how our food was or if we needed anything the entire time we were there I'm from eastern Oregon and have been to The Thicket many times... used to love it there and they had outstanding food... but sadly it was not worth the drive this time and I definitely wouldn't recommend and won't be returning alone or with friends again read more

We ate here twice during our motorcycle trip. Somehow, we decided to add a route that brought us back through Ukiah at lunchtime. Hamburgers are fresh ground patties, perfectly seasoned and flat-grilled. French fries here are among the best I've ever had. They serve Pepsi products on the tap, but they have real Coca-Cola in cans if you ask for it. Full bar, and most (if not all) of the beer is bottled. But, it's a good selection. It's divey in here, as it's a little bar in the middle of nowhere, but really good. Bartenders/cooks are awesome! read more

If you are out in the middle of Oregon, and you find yourself craving some food, there aren't many choices. Yet, one choice stands out above the rest. The Thicket Cafe and Bar. My party of 2 had lunch in the cafe. The room was small-ish. there are 7 tables, two are booths, and the others have 2 or 4 chairs. The menu is vast for such a remote location. I had the Thicket Burger and my partner had the Chicken Strips and Mozzarella Sticks. The sticks were gone before the camera made it out of the pocket. They were properly prepared and served with some ranch dressing. The Chicken Strips were huge, and they came with a bunch of fries too. The Thicket makes it's own version of fry-sauce, and it's pretty darn good. The chicken wasn't dry or overcooked. I'd order this again, and I don't usually order restaurant chicken. The Thicket Burger was creative, and flavorful. I ordered the 1/2 pound patty. I asked for medium-rare, and it not even close. However, it was still juicy and I was hungry, so, I ate it. :-) The juice from the ham paired with the doubled cheese probably saved this burger. I enjoyed it, and would probably order it again; however, I'd be focused on noting my desire for medium rare. I'm a fan of little places that aren't in big cities or on the main road to anywhere. I drove an hour past the prior restaurant to try this one. I'd do it again if I'm in the area. read more

We go pretty frequently to the Thicket for a meal. The help is always attentive to us and pleasant. The atmosphere is comfortable; the food is like home cooked style, prepared when ordered, for freshly made meal. We have always been satisfied with what we have ordered. They make a really good hearty breakfast, a good chef salad. They have a good pizza, hamburgers. They have good Tacos on Tuesdays and a Prime Rib special the first Saturday of each month. read more

The service at the Thicket was terrible. Watched the owners yell at each other and the food was marginal. The grill was closed at 5:30. Gave it a second chance a couple days later and they were rude again. As a local I can remember when it was amazing with exceptional food. Been going here for years. Place has really gone down hill with new owners. Never know if there going to be open and the owner is very rude. My hamburger was very pink in the middle and they would not re cook it for me. It also took almost an hour just to get our food and there was only a few of us in there. My girlfriend and I let 'er buck this year and then escaped south. We stopped in Ukiah for dinner at the Thicket Cafe and Bar. The Thicket Cafe and Bar really -is- a Cafe and Bar. That is, the Cafe is seperated from the bar by a partial wall and some screening. We chose the bar. The bar decoration is solidly hunter-chic with --for example-- a memorable poster about the largely elk-free nature of elk hunting. I had the evening's steak special and my girlfriend had the elk-burger. The steak was the clear winner -- really delicious and a perfect medium rare -- but the elk burger was tasty as well. The beer selection is surprisingly good too! The real reason to love this place though is the staff. The cook ribbed us from behind the bar, and the woman who waited our table was friendly, hilarious, and helped me decode my map. She hooked us up with some biker-maps of the area and then sent us on our merry way down the 52 road. It was a great evening. read more

What do you get with an indifferent waitress/cook, limited seating and a fairly routine menu? For me, that's heaven. Passed up the opportunity to drive into Pendleton for a fancy meal and found this little hole in the wall. Cafe sat 8 and we were six. We almost had to conk the waitress on the head to get her to take our orders, but she managed to cook it all with good timing and we got served together. Two of us had excellent BLTs, two of us had C+ fish and chips (but really, what did they expect?), my wife enjoyed her patty melt, but the star of the show was the Cobb salad with a monstruous serving. Took three of us to help her finish it. Good prices, took our debit cards without flinching. All in all, a pleasant meal. read more

Out of town business trip brought me to Ukiah OR this beautiful spring day so I decided to stop at the "Thicket" and asked the bartender for the special. Was interrupted by the local patron stating "as long as you are here you should try the thicket burger". I'm am a bit of a burger connoisseur and can tell you that the flavor of the burger is the best I have had in the West. They also make home made french fries which is cooked to perfection. read more
