Burger with onion rings
Ika I.

Generous portion and wonderful service! We had dinner at 1188 after a long day of sightseeing near John Day. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant that serves American cuisine at reasonable prices. Located in downtown John Day, the restaurant is within walking distance of local hotels and on-street parking is available nearby. The ambiance of the restaurant was casual and relaxed, and the staff was very prompt and friendly. For entree, I had the spinach salad with goat cheese, hazelnuts and raspberry dressing. The serving size was very generous, and I requested shrimp as add-on protein for the meal. Others ordered the standard burger and fries, and they raved about the onion rings! The only drawback I found was the large number of flies inside the restaurant. While we were eating, it was a constant battle to swat flies with your hands while trying to eat. I am unsure if it had to do with the region or the restaurant, but it gave me some concerns about hygienic standard.

I had a salad, prime rib and red potatoes, and an appetizer of their insanely delicious jalapeño poppers

Stopped by on my way through some sightseeing in John Day and it was just what I needed! Some delicious choices for food and brewery. I had the cherry vanilla "Chanilla" cider and it was amazing. I happened to be there on a Friday night where they served prime rib special, lucky me, it was so good! The staff and service were great even when people began filing in! The whole style of the place was also a nice touch to enjoy while eating :)

Thank you for the sentiment & the art

First time eating inside Since last March (hello Covid) & it's a real nice joint. Fries are legit potatoes & a good basket full for $5. Flights are $15 for 8 tastes & to We didn't love all the tastes, we loved how broad the tastes were! Staff was not very friendly, but Extra bonus points for the great bathrooms w decent art & the right attitude.

Kids meal with amazing veggie/fruit tray for my little.

Gave this restaurant a go on a recent trip to the area, based on the high praising reviews from my fellow Yelpies and I'd have to hands down agree. If you've never been to the John Day area of Oregon, then you should know it's a very small town (population under 2,000) which means you are darn lucky to even find a restaurant let alone one that could hold its own against restaurants in a bigger city. Decor is trendy and inviting. I didn't get a chance to ask our server, but there must be some kind of connection to yard gnomes because they were multiple sitings in strategic locations all over. They are taking the COVID protocols very seriously which is nice to see. Especially in a smaller community where I've often seen this kind of stuff slide. Menu had a good selection of a variety of wraps, burgers, sandwiches, etc. Easily something for everyone, including GF buns which I always appreciate and rarely find in more remote areas. I had the turkey sandwich which came with yummy jalapeno bacon (so how could you go wrong) and yummy fries with I'm pretty sure house made dipping sauces.. Kids menu had a decent selection and was fairly priced at $5. My younger son opted for the veggie/fruit tray with his Mac n cheese and I must say I've never seen such a nice spread of seasonal fruits & veggies. So inviting I happily ate what he chose not to. Our visit wasn't conducive to beer sampling, so I can't speak to these but they did appear to have a nice selection of different types to choose from. Also didn't have room for dessert, but they had a display case with multiple scratch made desserts that definitely looked like they'd be worth the calories. Staff was attentive & friendly. Restaurant was clean and tidy. Friday at Noonish they were totally full. Not sure when we'll next be through this way, but I'd absolutely come back if we did. Would love to do so when the weather is nice, as it looks like the front of the place opens up to create an al fresco feel.

Pretty good menu and a surprising selection of beer. The only complaint I have is they shutdown a bit early, but then again, it is John Day

It sounded like something a tourist should do when you're staying in a little town like Baker. The diner is part of the motel next door which is also called the Oregon Trail. Both venues are kinda dated. I'm sure in it's prime it was fabulous! But eating at this venue was pretty cool. It was like stepping into an old school time capsule. We sat ourselves at a booth on the very left of the diner. It was probably one of the only booths where the seating wasn't all messed up. We were instantly greeted and given menus. I did creep on their online menu this morning but it was good to see what I might miss. I got the country breakfast. It had two eggs, 5 slices of bacon and I opted for fresh fruit instead of the hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and yolky in the middle. The fruit was super fresh! It was still on the unripe side but still sweet. The bacon was ok. It was slightly overcooked in the middle and chewy on the ends. It was quite the experience eating here. The servers are really nice and really good at making sure your coffee cup is always full! By the time we left, there was a good crowd of people coming in. It was cool to experience Baker's local diner. It was neat dining here with all the locals.

We saw this restaurant and decided to eat lunch here on . The decor is old school! Deer heads,…read morefish and cool stuff! So happy breakfast is served all day! Food was great and service was excellent. Everyone is so friendly. Will come again!
