I had asked co-workers for recommendations of dentists they use since we all have the same insurance plan. None of the co-workers had dentists close to me except one who is not the friendliest of co-workers but regardless of her reputation I figure her recommendation would be good. She told me Dr Stomel doesn't sell you unnecessary work, he's honest & does a great job. I was sold! So when I was experiencing tremendous pain at what I thought was an old crown I called Dr Stomel's office at noon on a Wednesday, the front receptionist named Kris immediately made me an appt for 1:30pm that day! I went to my appt, the receptionist was friendly but I waited an additional 15 minutes after I had filled out all the paperwork even when there were no other patients in the lobby. Suddenly a lady comes running into the office with a big dog & within minutes that same lady calls me back to a room & has me prep with mouth wash & xrays taken before I'm seen by Dr Stomel. Dr Stomel comes in & does a very quick inspection by just tapping on the tooth and inspects the xray. He tells me its not my crown but the tooth next to it has a deep cavity & says I will need a root canal & he is refers me to an endodontist to do the root canal. He ends my appt with a prescription for antibiotics as Kris takes care of the referral.
Fast forward 3wks after my successful root canal, I decided that since I have to followup with Dr. Stomel to get a crown where the root canal took place, I can also kill two birds with one stone & schedule a cleaning for my teenage daughter. Sadly it all went downhill. I call to schedule an appt & since I work crazy hours and my daughter has a crazy school schedule I put a request to see the dentist for a Tuesday morning. The receptionist tells me Dr. Stomel is only in on Mondays from 9-4pm, Wednesdays 9-4 and Fridays from 10-3pm & sometimes he leaves earlier. WTH I have to work around his schedule?! So took time off work since I was told by the endodontist to not let my temporary filling for the root canal go more than four weeks without a crown to prevent infection and injury. As I'm making the appt, the receptionist tells me she only has a 90min slot to get both of in so one of us will have a shorten visit. I agree to let my daughter get her cleaning since it will benefit her more but I ask her if that means I will have to come back more than once to get the crown fitted and she says yes since he can only check to see how the seal for root canal is doing due to the 90 minutes time restrictions but she assures me that my daughter will have a full appt to have her teeth cleaned. I was already disappointed I had to take time off work but I became even more frustrated since this means I will need more time off work since he doesn't have flexibility in appts.
So come the day of the appt and I go first. I didn't wait as long as I did the first time I visited. The dental assistant brings me in, she was kind and has me rinse with mouth wash. Dr Stomel comes in and says the root canal xrays looks great but he just wants to make sure the seal is still intact. He literally taps on the tooth of the root canal (which happens to be my last upper left molar) and he taps on one of the molars on the bottom and asks if I feel pain. I tell him no, but I feel pain when I floss there's not much space between the two teeth so when the floss goes through, it takes a bit of force to get the floss through. With this answer he tells me I should wait another three weeks before I do the crown and continues to tell me my options of what is best but explains that my plan only pays 60% so it would be up to me to decide which is best. I ask for an estimate and he says the receptionist will call me with an estimate. So after a 10 min followup appt, my daughter goes in for her cleaning. I hear talking, laughing an xray being done and then Dr. Stomel goes in and I hear tools that sounds like cleaning at a dentist office, but within 15 minutes she comes out and I'm told she needs braces (which she does) and he says that her xrays does not show any cavities. I'm thinking, she's done?! The cleaning only took 15 minutes?! I ask when she needed to been seen again and he responds to bring her back in 6months! I couldn't believe that two appts was only seen in 30mins! We left disgusted! My daughter even says she doesn't like him as he came off rude. Days later I still haven't heard from Kris with my quote for the crown so I call on a Wednesday & leave a msg. A week goes by so I call again & get Kris but she says she still putting together figures from Dr Stomel! I can't believe its been over 2wks and I have no estimate for a crown! I am switching dentists ASAP! Yes he doesn't sell you unnecessary work but he also doesn't care to do quality work either! I seriously question the validity of his work! Think twice before you go here! read more
