AWFUL. My dentist recently retired so when I suddenly developed a toothache I went to Dr. Levy because he was in my area. The staff reassured me that the x-rays would not be more than $40 (because I had just had x-rays with my other dentist and wasn't inclined to pay for a new set). Before I even walked to my car I had a text demanding $95. My insurance EOB stated that I owed $0 for the appointment so now they are insisting the $95 is for the x-rays. Umm, no at a maximum I was told I'd pay $40. Then Dr. Levy told me I needed to see the endodontist in his office. I was VERY careful. I spoke with his staff (with him standing right there), and confirmed that it would be covered as a co-pay only with my insurance. They said it would be so I went to this completely unhelpful endodontist who looked in my mouth for a few minutes and basically shrugged and said she didn't know why I had a toothache. For this privilege I was billed $238. ALMOST $350 IN BILLS FOR NO TREATMENT, DIAGNOSIS OR ADVICE. And those bills are counter to what they told me. I should have recorded the conversations - oh wait, that would be illegal, but I guess lying about billing practices isn't. They have been horrible to deal with. I will be filing a formal complaint, fighting the bill, and will never go back. I feel completely ripped off and scammed. read more

(only because zero isn't an option) Dr. Alan Levy and his hygienists are excellent -- skilled, professional, genuinely great at what they do. Which makes it infuriating that the front desk is the reason why they've permanently lost my business. I was a loyal patient here for years. Spotless billing history, never a problem. Then one Friday I got caught in the 405 traffic that anyone in LA knows is a coin flip, called ahead to say I was running late, and as I was parking right outside their door -- 20 minutes late -- they cancelled my appointment. No offer to wait for the next opening. No attempt to rebook. No flexibility whatsoever. Just a cancellation, followed by a bill for an appointment that never happened. Then it got worse. I called three times -- calmly, reasonably -- to ask them to drop the charge for a service I never received. Three times I got the same cold, dismissive answer: lateness is billable, read the fine print. Years of loyalty meant nothing. No goodwill, no judgment, no interest in keeping a long-term patient over a single traffic jam. Just a hand out, demanding money for an empty chair. That's the whole relationship to them: not a patient, a line item. So they've lost my business -- permanently -- and I'll be telling everyone I know to think twice before handing this office their trust or their money. The dentistry is good. But you have to get past a front desk that will bill you for nothing, lecture you for asking, and treat years of loyalty like it never happened. Not worth it. Go somewhere that remembers you're a person. What a shame, all for $145. Good thing this town has thousands of other choices who provide equivalent care with exceptional service. read more

Dr. Levy is wonderful- a rare breed these days. The industry is filled with unscrupulous dentists. He is extremely thorough, conscientious, good humored and his dental hygienists are EXCELLENT. One warning: he talks politics the entire time. I do not share his views, but i don't say a word because he's that good! Thank you Doctor Levy! read more

I felt very welcomed and accommodated by Katie at the front desk. She got me in on a cancellation list. I have been very phobic of seeing a dentist in the past. My family has been going to Dr Levy for years, but no longer! He way overcharges for everything and knew I was paying cash since I lost my insurance. He could've given me a cash discount but didn't and instead charged me $400 for x-rays!! They're digital!! It's shameful!! He doesn't care about his patients! I should have realized bc he talks on both sides of his mouth being for our freedoms, but made all his employees take the vaccine or loose their jobs. He's that guy! All he cares about is himself! Don't get sucked in with his celebrity photos on his website either--it's all about the money for him. He's unscrupulous! read more

I'm not sure why I'm even writing this review... everyone else has said it all. Dr. Levy has a solid five-star rating because he and his office are great. Very accommodating, quick to refer you to specialists outside his office if that is what is needed. My teeth are going to be challenging for any dentist (I got in the wrong gene pool.. and I dove into the shallow end teeth first)... so it's difficult to write a rave review for someone who is always giving me bad news. But it is through my challenging dental situation that I have come to respect Dr. Levy's skill. And it's the whole package... nice people in the office, appointments happening on time... FREQUENTLY accommodating last-minute calls when some dental crisis befalls me. "Come on in... we'll get you taken care of"... and they do. read more

Dr Levy and staff are the best!! I've been a patient for over 10 years I would highly recommend them.

I like the dentist. I like the hygienists. Been with them for a year, but I will not be returning anymore. TWICE they mismanaged my appointment. A cleaning I had scheduled a few months backed, I arrived (20-30 min drive depending on traffic) to find that I was a month off. Even though I had called just days earlier to double check my time, apparently I heard the wrong month. I was almost positive I had heard correctly, but figured it must have been an error on my part. I was upset because it took an hour out of a day for no reason when I had a lot of work to get done that day. Then today, almost the same thing happens. This time, I had a cleaning appointment for June 23. Plans had come up taking me out of town that week. So, a couple weeks ago I called to reschedule and they said they could get me in on the 20th, which made me very happy that I could have it done before my trip. I then called again 2 days prior to my supposed appointment to double check that I had the time right. I show up today, June 20th and apparently my appointment was for AUGUST 20th. Even the receptionist who I'd talked to the 2 times i called before this appointment mentioned how I said "perfect!" when she gave me the appointment. Which I did. But why would I have been saying that perfect if I thought I had to wait another 2 months. Moreover, when I called 2 days ago to check the time, I wouldn't have mentioned the month, I'd have either said " what time is my appointment on Thursday?" Or " what time is my appointment on the 20th?" Since no one mentioned August, I would've still assumed it was June. So twice in a row I spent a pointless hour on the road because somehow I keep hearing the month wrong. So, I don't think it's me anymore, I think it's them. They are so busy that they can't even reschedule you till the time you're supposed to have your next cleaning, which is ridiculous. Stuff comes up all the time for everybody, and it's the dentist who's always telling you have to be in every few months. How can you expect that of patients if they can't even reschedule a few weeks in advance, without being able to get you in for a few more months. Lastly, they could've made things right by just squeezing a patient in, but apparently this dentist doesn't care about customer service. I'll also add that when I recently rescheduled, if the receptionist DID say "August 20" she didn't say it in such a way as to"sorry but I won't be able to get you in till August," she simply said "I can give you August 20," which would explain why AUGUST didn't register for me. Who would have expected a reschedule to be 2 months out? Another addition. The receptionist was nasty about the incidents on both occasion. No empathy. Was happy to make me look like an idiot. And when I asked if there was any chance to squeeze me in sooner, she didn't even look at the calendar, just immediately said they're booked for months out. read more

Where to begin. Alan Levy is by far the best dentist in the world. He is kind, smart, knows what he is doing, prepared, detailed and a lot of fun. Going to Alan is just so easy. He explains things with no pressure attached and talks everything thru. In addition, his staff some of which have been there forever are a pleasure to do business with. Both Sonia and Kirsten are just lovely people and Katie and Ella are also a huge help. If Alan is not sure he will send you on to the next guy without reservations which speaks volumes about his comfort and security about what he does. Dr. Levy and his staff are TOP NOTCH! This guy is an incredibly talented pro... AND a menchy good, HONEST person. Dr. Levy never pushes to do dental work unless it is absolutely necessary. Thank you Dr. Alan Levy and team. Very thorough and professional.

I've been to Dr. Levy's office twice now. The first time was for a consult for my TMJ. I forget how long he sat with me but it was more than enough time to ask him every question I could think of. He not only answered me but explained and made sure I understood. He referred me to a doctor who specializes in mitigating the type of issues I have with my jaw. My second visit was for a cleaning with Kathleen. She adjusted for my jaw and teeth sensitivity and also gave me lots of advice on TMJ. Beyond being professional and knowledgeable, the staff are kind and take their time with their patients. read more

I don't usually write reviews, however I felt this was a good opportunity to add value. I visited Dr. levy on the recommendation of friends for a likely broken tooth or root canal- nothing fun! I also saw two other dentists. I chose Dr. levy and his team for a variety of reasons- I felt comfortable, their offices were updated and the staff were freidnly and upbeat. But I also ended up needing a more complex oral surgery and the surgeon on the team (Shamefully can't recall his name) provided an analysis and procedural recommendation that was comprehensive and made sense. erm. They checked my insurance and said I was covered and provided me with an estimate for the total process. I went through the process - it was painless in the chair, and comfortable. They took great care to make sure I was comfortable and well taken care of in terms of someone to take me home, etc. They babied me for lack of a better term and I am a dentaphobe for some reason, and so this was appreciated. I had to return for several follow-up visits to check on the progress of the surgery and remove the covering finally. In the end, I was quite satisfied. The only reason I didn't give a 5-star review is because there was miscommunication with regard to what would be covered by insurance. I subsequently got a bill for an amount that seemed like almost the full amount of the procedure - as if my insurance covered almost nothing. I inquired about it and after discussing it, they explained that the insurance didn't cover as much as expected because they performed two procedures at once, and that this was done as a medical decision in my best interest - the thinking being that less surgery is better than more surgery or something to that effect. I certainly am not one to argue with that- and appreciated their explanation after the fact, but was upset that nothing was said prior to the surgery and I therefore had no chance to think about the cost or compare options. In any event, rather than turn it into a whole big deal, they were very gracious and agreed to reduce the remaining cost in half which was both professional and reasonable and much appreciated as a sign of their commitment to their patients and integrity as a "business." So, I'm giving them a 4 instead of a 5 so hopefully some people will read this an understand that they are actually top notch! And yes, they are fun and funny too! read more

I was extremely lucky to see Dr. Alan Levy yesterday, who is the very definition of a mensch. I don't even live in the area, and he prevented a painful dental problem from becoming really serious! I was in the Los Angeles/San Fernando area for meetings yesterday, and my tooth hurt--the upper left molar that is furthest back in my mouth. I was able to see Dr. Levy on essentially no notice because is a friend/colleague of my business partner's. After doing thorough x-rays and using a high resolution in-mouth camera, Dr. Levy diagnosed (and showed me!) that my molar is cracked. My now EX-dentist had covered part of the crack with a filling, but the untreated crack resulted in a 12-13 mm abscess and 2 fistulas. Gross and OUCH! Dr. Levy recommended that this tooth be extracted....SOON before the infection affects my sinus and bone. He did not push for an implant, because there is insufficient bone and because the molar on my lower jaw will still be functional. Dr. Levy also recommended that the extraction be done by an oral surgeon and not by a general dentist (like himself) due to the proximity of the tooth (and the infection) to the sinus and the resulting risk of complications. To complete my unscheduled appointment, Dr. Levy looked into scheduling and referrals for oral surgery. He also immediately wrote me a prescription for a 10-day cycle of antibiotics (Amox-Clav 875-125 mg, BID). I was also given PeroDex rinse, which I have started using. Hopefully this clears up much of the infection prior to extraction and will shorten the post-operative recovery period. Pretty good treatment of a non-patient! I have since scheduled my extraction with a local (San Diego) oral surgeon. In the meantime, my pain has lessened, and I am grateful for Dr. Levy. I would give him 10 stars if I could. Wish I could find a dentist half as good as Dr. Levy near me. read more

I have been going to Alan's since I was a little boy. Seriously. I'm 36 so I'd say about 35 years I've been going and he and his team and nothing but always incredible.
