I will say that driving up to the Chamounix Mansion could have been a scene from a B-horror movie, a big old house in the middle of the woods. Our experience was nothing like that though. Claire and Andie are the house managers and both were nice and accommodating. They supplied sheets, linens, blanket and a pillow. You need to bring your bathroom supplies (towel, deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc). Our Scout troop stayed here and we had both buildings, the Mansion and the cottage which is across a lawn/courtyard area. Their main kitchen/dining area is in the basement of the mansion which fit 70 scouts with a little room to spare. Since it was the first week in April and it was warm, 70 degrees, the AC was not on yet but they have several pedestal room fans which made it adequate. Each room had several bunk beds, lights, outlets etc. The mansion and the cottage each had a common room with a TV in it. They have free wifi but you get a strong signal on your cell phone without it. Overall we had a good experience and I definitely recommend it for large groups.

The engaging decor includes a wide variety of kitschy objects from many places worldwide. During our several-day stay, I didn't get tired of looking around and finding new curiosities. Outside, the B&B is tucked onto a forested and winding hillside, surrounding you with green leaves and views of the sky. It's easy to forget that you're less than 30 minutes away from downtown Philadelphia. And there's plenty of parking in the B&B's lot. Our room was a good size, but it was better for sleeping in and going out. It might have been a bit small if we planned on spending significant time just hanging out in the room as there wasn't much space around the very comfortable bed and the one chair, which was a plush and comfortable reading chair. The room also had an armoire, TV, and a short hall off of which the bathroom was located. (The rooms do vary in size, so again, that's just my view of the room we were in.) The breakfasts here are excellent and include what may be the best scones I've ever had. (I'm delayed in writing my review by several months, but the memory of those scones is still vivid. YUM!!!) Breakfast is served mainly in a kitsch-filled dining room, that's bright from high ceilings and sliding doors at one end of the room. The dining room table - a heavy wood table, suiting the atmosphere - 'only' seats 8 though, so if the table's full you may have to wait or choose to eat in one of the nearby rooms on a tray; when the weather's nice, there's more seating outside.

If being specific, the day after I checked in I noted that someone went through my medications I left in the fridge and rebagged them. On the one hand this is quite rude and made me feel violated. On the other hand they simply have people hunched over-passed out-doing drugs across from the doorway and so I shrugged it off as I assumed they were having trouble with this. A couple of the ladies were especailly kind. Stephanie I believer her name is took the group on a rather fun ghost tour which when compared with the tour I spend $25 on later was better. Another lady working checked out their umbrella and I didn't have to like 'ah leave ID or anything. That was cool. But then some of the staff are just deal breakers. On my last night I bought a Philadelphia Cheesesteak and wanted to eat in the lounge while either deciding to extend the weekend or treck back eariler to New York. Dude in a trucker hat with long hair said to clear out and then waited and watched me pack up my stuff from the fridge. So kinda ruined my hoagie, I was like 70-30 on staying the weekend, that put a bad taste in my mouth but ah, now I'm having that hoggie. I would stay at the other hostel as I heard through the grapevine they do more social activies and it's online a bit cheaper. I haven't seen it but imagine safer for familes and groups. Alright.

I really wanted to be in Philly, because my church was having a fellowship weekend and my usual hosts were not available. This hostel was in the middle of an alley in the center of downtown, so very convenient location. It was spacious with front check in area, pool table, kitchen, couches, and games. The decor is colorful and fun, with plenty of Philly inspired artwork. I received my key card and towel, then headed upstairs to the room, which had a large window and 6 bunk beds. The space seemed to be clean and well kept. There was a towel hanging on one of the hooks, so I put my towel (of a different color) next to it. When I returned late that night, I noticed that my clean towel was no longer on the hook. I looked around and saw said towel haphazardly thrown on a lower bunk bed that was not mine. Why do people have to ruin things?! I cannot fathom how anyone could think it is appropriate to use and much less, touch, someone else's towel! Feeling quite upset, I had to go back down to the front desk (which was thankfully 24 hours) in order to get a new towel. After that, I made sure to lock up my towel. The bathroom for the floor was pretty well maintained. Kitchen was nice and cute with plenty of spots to sit. There was free tea, as well as a machine providing coffee and chai for $1. I selected the Chocolate Chai, which was a comforting blend of rich cocoa and warm spices from the chai flavor. Overall, service was welcoming. The guests mostly kept to their own group, which is not what I'm used to when I'm in hostels internationally. However, I didn't really mind since I was barely there. I might consider staying again, but only as a last resort.

We…read morewere originally planning to go to Italy last year but after postponing our wedding due to the pandemic and Italy shutting down, Carol and her team were so professional and helpful with rescheduling. Fast forward to planning our new honeymoon this spring and we decided on Tahiti with stays in Moorea and Bora Bora. Carol was able to keep our new trip within our original budget which was a huge plus. We opted to spend the little bit of extra money on trip insurance with everything going on and it paid off big time. When we arrived in Tahiti we ran into some issues with this wonderful pandemic going around. Thank god we had not only the trip insurance but Carol and her team as well. They stayed in constant contact with us despite us being 6 hours behind. She was able to transfer our reservation from our Bora Bora stay to extend our stay in Moorea due to some travel restrictions. She constantly reassured us everything was going to be fine through the most stressful week of our lives which was probably the best aspect of having her as our travel agent. Carol and her team at Farnesi Travel worked non stop and were in constant contact with us, the hotel, the airline and other contacts to make sure we had what we needed for not only our stay but to get home as well.
