Honestly not sure why this place had terrible ratings. Looks like just one person had a bad experience. Best wings in Carlsbad by far. Other options are Buffalo Wild Wings, and one of the pizza chains. I HIGHLY recommend wings here over anywhere else any other day. Especially since I'm all about supporting local. The flavors were great, but not intuitive. The lady on the phone kindly explained each flavor to us. It would be helpful for them to write descriptions out on the menu. This was such a wonderful place to stop for dinner. When we arrived we were welcomed warmly and I could see that everyone was treated like family here. Friendly service and fun dining room full of chicken and rooster decor. The restaurant is a bit cold and resembles a trailer. The inside is a bit dirty. The establishment does not have alcohol. There are no carrots or celery with the wings. The fries are good. There is ranch but no blue cheese. We got the mango habenero, "good stuff," hot buffalo and za za volcano. After a long day of traveling, our daughter wanted a burger so we choose Thelma's Wangs & Thangs. The cheeseburger was DELICIOUS - best burger I've had in a while. The hot chips and salsa were yummy - really loved the salsa. The wings and sauces were cooked to perfection. The restaurant itself is so cute & has so many things to look at. All of the staff was so accommodating with drink refills, recommendations of where else to go while visiting and Jimmy, the hardest working fellow in New Mexico, was a delight to chat with. Great service, charm, and wings! Stopped in for some food to go, owners were very nice and helped me to determine the wing flavors to choose. The customer service was excellent, the owners talked to us and gave their story on the restaurant and food. Really really friendly people. Super cute, simple place serving some delicious wings. Had the spicy bbq and JD's Fire. Spicy bbq was my favorite as it's a little sweet, sour, and spicy at same time. JD's Fire is a little similar to Buffalo, but smokier and spicier. Can't wait to try other flavors. read more

Stopped here after reading the great reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice and the ladies working were wonderful. My hubby had the hot wings and I had the mango habanero wings. Both were delicious. The mango sauce was an awesome mix of hot and tangy with a slight sweetness. So so good. Went here yesterday for a mid-afternoon dinner. What a treat! The two women working there were kind and attentive. Shortly after arriving, the small, humble, chicken filled (Thelma's has a 7' tall furry chicken!} restaurant was SRO. We ordered Wangs, hot and spicy bbq, which were flavorful. What I hear from the staff, the burgers are a Big Deal. They hand form the patties and the condiments looked fresh and crisp on the burgers I saw go by. And did I mention fries? Yes! They are fresh!
