A Stylist I had an appointment with at a different salon for highlights and a haircut canceled on me, one hour before my appointment. I scrambled trying to find anyone to give me a haircut and thankfully Emily was available at the last minute. I'm so thankful that she squeeze me in. My haircut looks great. I was very much overdue and it looks fresh and exactly what I asked for, although i probably described it so poorly in my frazzled state. The salon was very clean and cute. Just went for the first time and am happy to have found a new home base for haircuts. Emily is awesome and knew exactly what I needed when I was at a loss for explaining what I was looking for in a new cut. She did a great job and I'm so happy with my hair now. My son and daughter had lice and so the whole family was being treated the night before my appointment. I messaged that evening (i found out after school) that I needed to reschedule as I didn't want to bring lice to the salon. I was charged over $50 and now I regret not bringing lice to the salon. Their no exception policy is ridiculous, even when you ask to reschedule due to a lice infestation. Next time, take your lice and your strep throat to them....their charge is more than the Dr. visit and meds.... read more

Updating my review as Hailey unfortunately left Zealous Root about 7-8 months back. I originally started seeing Meghan, who is also great, but being the only tech for a while made her schedule super busy and hard for me to find time. I stopped going for about 5 months, and my nails desperately missed the bio-sculpt. I have seen Dawn, the new nail tech, twice now, and I absolutely love her! She is extremely friendly and personable. Plus my nails are back to looking great and gaining growth again. This picture was taken walking into the salon on my 19th day of this manicure, and it was 100% flawless. Had I not had a business trip the next day, I would have likely had 3-5 more days on this color. It wasn't even lifting at all. Plus that color is fabulous in person. This is my new hair place and i'm absolutely in love. I found this place on Yelp and the reviews were great. I was in search of a new "forever" hair place after many disappointing visits to other Detroit area salons....Well, i've found it! Because of my woes with finding a hairdresser - i had begun to bleach my own hair (what was i thinking?!?!) and when i walked into Zealous Root with a head full of what looked like hay (my hair was straight up crunchy), they didn't scoff at me. They asked me what my goals were and they collaborated to achieve a look that was so much cuter and healthier than what i had. I'm so happy i came here and met Katie, she's my new girl! All of the ladies at this salon are so nice and welcoming. Not to mention the shampoo and conditioner are vegan and cruelty free. ALSO, there are cute little pups that roam the salon and if you're lucky they'll come say hi and let you give them pets. Definitely need to mention the shampoo bowls - yes, this seems strange. But they have these amazing little 'pillow' things in there that support your head so you're not there snapping your neck off or trying to hold up your (more than 10lb) head. It's so relaxing and comfortable. I can't say enough about this salon. I'm really happy that i found it and that they took the time to help me so much. Had a great first experience here. Natalie is new to the staff, and I was lucky enough to wander in and meet her one day. We dpoke, she did a quick consultation & booked my appointment. She gave me a fresh new cut with color & highlights, along with some styling & product recommendations for my new look. I liked that she was realistic about what was possible with the thickness & texture of my hair. She was really personable and fun to talk with. On a whole different note, their shampoo bowls are the most comfortable I've ever used! There is a ledge that keeps you from feeling too much pressure or neck strain. This is without question the best salon I've ever been to. Everyone is so genuinely friendly and welcoming, and just good people. I went there for my wedding, and I've never felt so beautiful in my life. They just really seemed to understand me and I am not exaggerating when I say everything was perfect. Meghan did my eyebrows and my nails, and picked the most amazing color that I would have never picked myself but I'm so glad she did. Sara did my makeup and absolutely nailed it. I told her I wanted to look like me but better and that's exactly what happened. Vina is a hair genius. I started by telling her that I have never in my life likes any updo I've ever had. But what she created was just perfect. My hair and makeup stayed all night which was so crazy because it was the hottest day of the year with crazy thunderstorms and lots of humidity. BEST haircut I've ever gotten!! I've been getting my hair cut for years at different places around the area and I can truly say that this is a special place. Right when I walked in I was greeted by the cutest little dog and then got introduced to my hairdresser, Sara. I'm not very good with hair so I didn't know what to ask to get done so she took the reigns and boy am I happy she did! The time flew by and once I saw the finished product I was in awe. The products Sara used made my hair look so shiny and healthy looking and the cut was on point. She offered me many hair care tips and directed me towards their amazing in store products which I bought and they've been great btw. Nail tech not very experienced. Did not soak my finger nails, uneven filing and polish application on fingernails. Pedicure did not remove much dead skin and callouses, Polish somewhat uneven but the color is great. I'm going to have to give myself a mini pedicure to remove more dead skin and make my feet look cleaner and softer. Also I would give this place a three $$$.
