It's the end of a king-standing era. I don't know when it happened but The Yellow Store has has gone corporate. For about 20 years one constant in San Marcos was that you could roll up to the Yellow Store for the cheapest gas in town... and the price on the sign was 2-3 cents cheaper when you got to the pump. Went there last Tuesday... not only was it not the cheapest in town, it was 20 cents more expensive than H‑E‑B a few blocks away. First they knock down Triple Crown... then Paper Bear closes... now this. At least we can still find a legendary Bloody Mary at The Showdown. read more

stop by to Put gas cause price read $3.09 REGULAR CASH! the BOY, "No name" (since he refused to give me his name) took his time helping the lady before me & then took his time with me. came back to the pump it reads $3.19 told the clerk "hey I paid for 3.09 now it's showing that it's 3.19" he told me "oh yes ma'am it reads 3.19 cause if your paying card just start it & it will fix its self to 3.09" okay, cool! well NOPE. IT DIDNT. then as I'm pumping gas I see one of the store employees go outside & remove the zero off the display sign. leaving it to read "3. BLANK 9" so i go back inside. & tell the Boy "nope it charged me 3.19. but your sign reads 3.09 CASH REGULAR" he said "oh well you paid card so it's 3.19" I told him "No i paid Cash, you broke a $50 bill" at this point he was dismissing me cause i had already fell for his little game & pumped the gas. THEN he tells me he ACCIDENTALLY put a zero in the sign instead of putting a 1. so then I tell him okay well your sign reads nothing so what's the price cause after I left the pump the price by the gas pump reads 3.39. I told him he knew what he was doing putting a fake price & then adding 10 -20 cents more on top of it. He claims he didn't catch the mistake because he had a rush come in when I was paying and it was rushed. So he basically sucks at customer service and can't work under pressure . Someone give him a mini skirt. Apparently this happens a lot but nobody pays attention & now I see why they won't provide a receipt. it's all a game. 10 or 20 cents may not seem like much but some people work hard for their money. all that adds up, y'all should know y'all enjoy putting out false advertisement just to gain business. dont forget what's done in the dark will ALWAYS come to light. might wanna start ID-ing all those cute little minors. just cause they pretty doesnt mean they are of age!!! read more

I usually like going here because they have cool products and they're gas is cheap but they sell FAKE PUFF BARS. This is extremely toxic and when i tried to call them and ask if they knew they were doing this they pretending the phone was breaking up. nice employees but the owner is a greedy man that doesn't care who he endangers. read more

Words can't describe how much I love The Yellow Store. I moved to San Marcos in 2008 to attend Texas State (like many who move there). I now consider myself a craft beer connoisseur & have The Yellow Store to thank for that! YS opened my mind to the craft beer world & did so because of their "create your own 6 pack" policy. I am not sure if YS was the first to come up with the concept, but I've see this now at other beer stores in Austin as well as some HEB grocery stores. So in my mind, YS is the pioneer of this! Beer selection is huge. Very huge! Their craft beer selection is probably the best in San Marcos that I know of. Their rotation constantly changes, so chances are if you frequent them enough times you'll always find something new. YS also has a wine selection, coctails, mixes, snacks, sodas, & "novelty" type items but their main focus is the beer. Gas prices at YS are some of the lowest in SM, & their gas lines do get long during peak times. If you're there to buy beer after 5pm, you're better off parking on the street in front of Triple Crown or Cedar's & walking in. It might be hard trying to get out! Another unique thing about YS is the drive thru. You can get cigarettes, beer, whatever without leaving your car! I would recommend using this during non peak times, however. If the line's too long it would be faster to make your purchase inside. If they're really slow, they'll even go make your 6 pack while you wait in the car if you already know what you want! Check out the VIP lounge! You'll see what I mean. My reason for writing this review is that I left San marcos in 2010 for the mid-south Austin area. I recently moved to Kyle & now have a reason to go there again! It's great to see that nothing's changed & if I can't find what I'm looking for at the Live Oak Market on s.1st or Whip In, I always check Yellow Store. Long live this great establishment! read more

I like Yellow Store. They have a large selection of beer. I like beer. However, you are going to pay more at Yellow Store than say, HEB or Gabriel's/Specs - sometimes a few dollars more for a 6 or 12 pack. Even some of the singles (think Rogue/Stone/etc) will run you a buck or two more than HEB/Gabriel's. I'll purchase the stuff I can't get at HEB here. I'd love to give them ALL my beer business and support, but the prices are a little too steep for this city guy. I'll probably still be in at least once a week. Also, with the client base that frequents the Yellow Store, you would think they would pony up for a bike rack for their tiny parking lot. It is a headache trying to pump gas here due to it's popularity, I mean, it's like trying to squeeze 7 elephants into a bathroom stall. Everyone else thinks they have the next available pump because they got there first, but it's basically impossible to guess which car you should get in line behind. Also due to it's popularity and small amount of space, there are few places to wait to fill up, so you may end up waiting in the street. Conclusion? Practically the only place nearby to offer an actual wide selection of beers, Yellow Store in infamous and well-loved. While I find their drinks to be a bit pricey, the certainly have a variety of them, something you won't get at HEB. You could head down I-35 to Gabriel's, but that's so far away, and Yellow Store is right there! I wouldn't try to get gas here, though, the little lot is terrifyingly small and often very busy. There's no place to lock your bike outside, you either have to keep a keen eye on it or lock it on the bike rack at Triple Crown next door. Had THE ABSOLUTE WORST experience when I got a keg here this past weekend. I don't typically give out bad yelp reviews like this, but I really feel the need to share in hopes that other people can avoid coming here to get treated like a piece of shit. My friend had called ahead and I guess spoke to a manager who told her everything would be ready for us to come pick up the keg and all the supplies for it on Saturday morning around 10. When I showed up, the clerk behind the register had no clue I was coming in for the keg and didn't even know how to ring it up. She had to call her boss and figure that all out, which took some time. I didn't really mind this at this point, but things just got worse from here. After I paid for everything I asked if I could get some help getting the keg to my car. She told me that she didn't know where the dolly was so she didn't know what to tell me. She asked a guy in the store (not sure if he was an employee or what) if he could help me but he said he didn't know how we would be able to pick it up and the dolly was missing. At this point, I had already been in the store for a good 25 minutes and I was beginning to get really frustrated. I asked the clerk what she thought I should do, because they were not offering up any solutions. She literally said "well can you get someone to come here and help you with it?" Like what???? I did not pay $200 (including the deposit fees for everything) for you guys to make me figure out how to get the keg to my car by myself. It seems pretty standard that when you purchase a keg somewhere they help you out to your car with it. The clerk just had the biggest attitude about the whole thing. I literally stood outside for another ten minutes, making phone calls to guy friends who could possibly come help me carry the keg to my car. Luckily, one of my guy friends just happened to pull up to get gas and he was able to help get it to my car along with the other guy who I think was an employee. The whole thing took about 40 minutes, which was so frustrating especially since we had called in advance and thought it would be a smooth and quick process. Returning everything the next day was not better either. It was the same rude clerk who was working and she had no idea how to refund me my deposit. She tried to call her boss and he or she wouldn't answer. She made me wait a good ten minutes in the store while she repeatedly tried to call her boss and finally I told her that I was not going to waste another 40 minutes of my time and to just give me the deposit back in cash, which she hesitantly did. This place was just so unorganized about everything. Overall, this was the most unprofessional place I have ever dealt with when getting a keg and I will never return here again. read more

I went here for gas earlier today, and the pump was broken--as soon as I pressed the "unleaded" button, gas started spewing EVERYWHERE. It got all over me, so I went to the bathroom to wash up. When I came out, the cashier started reprimanding me, saying that I had been holding down the lever on the nozzle, and it was my fault. Ok , this one really hits me hard , il start by saying , the Yellow Store , has actually been a bright star in my life for as long as I can remember , I proudly displayed the old window decal until the truck it adorned , went into Huber mileage and actually just stopped , I took visitors there , I went out of my way , and negotiated the tight logistics of the place , with delight. It would freshen up a hung over morn , or brighten the eve of a shitty day , for me. No secret it has recently been re gifted to new owners , and want to say , it felt like the magic would stick around, but as the saying goes , " you can't fake honesty and soul " ( I don't think that is an actual old saying but it should be ) on a rainy nite a few weeks ago , I dropped on like I had a thousand times before , and tip toed through the never ending toilet puddle that seeped endlessly from under the bathroom door , since our good buddy Damien , went away , and opened the beer case to grab a beer , when I did a six pack feel out that was hanging for dear life , and shattered upon the wet floor. I was so surprised and , immediately began to apologize and work to coral the glass, suds, and wet cardboard , when a physically challenged , millennium, half wit ,"one world wannabe , employee,( I'm sure , you guys have an idea of whom I describe)approached me , and, as I "sheepishly " apologized and stated that all I did was open the case door , shook his slender hollow jaw at me , rolled his punk ass blood shot eyes , and said " right dude , you only opened the case,!!" I went to the Yellow Store on August 27th. I tried my debit card at the pump and it wasn't accepted so I went to have it tried inside because I knew it had a balance. The clerk took my card, swiped it, and told me that it had been rejected. I am looking at my debit card statement now and it says 58.68 was taken from my account. I never have to put more than 35 dollars, even with the price of gas now, in my car, so I know the clerk pocketed the money/used it to purchase something for his own. Be aware if the clerk tells you that your card was not accepted--be sure to get a receipt. They are thieves. read more

If you don't give the yellow store 5 stars, then I don't know what pleases you. One of the best beer selections for miles around, a great and friendly staff, and the cheapest gas in San Marcos. These folks are great. If you're a smoker, they carry an eclectic selection of cigarettes as well as roll your own tobacco. The only downside is that it's a little bit hard to pull in and out of the pumps when they are busy, but with gas prices cheaper than the rest of town, you just sit and wait. read more
