The Yard is a great place to hang out on a summer evening. Cozying up in the oversized comfy seats is a nice alternative to a bar stool. There is no better people watching here, between the cool bikers and those who wish they were so cool, it's all good fun viewing. The drinks are excellently made with high quality ingredients. The food is unlike any other bar food found. It is the best ever. The only thing I dislike is the disgusting smell from smokers (including awful cigar smoke) that infects all of the air we breathe. read more

Lovely patio setting and cool vibe at The Yard. Hostess seated my husband at a tall table The waitress who seem to be our server walked past us several times without acknowledging us, then about 10 minutes later only realized that we were her table. I should also add that the music coming from the speakers was wayyyy to loud, almost difficult to carry on a conversation. While waiting, I had a chance to look over the menu very well. I feel there are some things missing, a lot of fried foods but not much grilled other than chicken or another protein you could add to a salad. I ordered the cucumber salad,on her recommendation with grilled chicken. However, it was over powered by mint and other herbs... Any other flavors were eradicated. Big disappointment, but she comped it. In the meantime, very hungry ordered sourdough bread, plain. Came out toasted with oil. Rats. OK, hungry now. Ordered the arctic char which was really yummy. A bit under done in the center, but I guess that's OK. However the accompanying fingerling potato with vinaigrette was swimming in oil. Really almost an edible. Husband had a burger and chips, they were fine. Would I go back? Hmmm.... read more

Great place to relax on a weekend! Live music on a perfect Sunday afternoon. The Yard is the outdoor area at the Iron Horse Hotel, yes, hotel, aka $14 drinks. The Yard has it's own outdoor bar as well as tall high boys to sit at (try to snag a cozy outdoor couch though if possible). Plan on parking about a block away, unless you have a Harley of course. Or bicycle, or scooter :) read more

Classy relaxed atmosphere! It's convenient location on the outskirts of downtown is great too. Anyone who enjoys drinking/dining outside would love this place. I found the mix of the clientele to be interesting too...some bikers in their leather, couples, a 40 year birthday party, groups of guys, groups of girls. The service was adequate, but the prices for food I thought were a bit high. The drinks were priced appropriately considering the venue, quality of the alcohol used, etc. I enjoyed seeing that a unique mix of people were here most of all...not something you see too often around Milwaukee in my opinion. The Yard has one of the nicest outdoor spaces I've ever seen! Be sure to check it out! read more

I love the Yard! I love it so much I should've been the first to review it!!! Damn! Another great reason to visit The Iron Horse. The Food is Great. The Drinks are Great. The Staff is Great. I think it is the best outdoor seating in Milwaukee! read more

Nice setting with good food and drink but the sound system had an incredibly annoying hum that reminded me of a stereo I soldered together myself in the 80s. read more

We've been here many times so it is a place we like to come to on a beautiful day. The patio is welcoming and comfortable and the drinks and service are outstanding. They often have live music on the patio as they did today. read more

The Yard - Great patio is what this place is about - Lounges Near Me - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Wow! The service is stellar, the ambiance is fantastic, and the food--quite good. The view is spectacular and it is just great to lounge and enjoy it. The view is what you come for. I would say my only complaint is that when trains come by, it can be a little noisy and smelly. read more

Great place on a summer evening. Good food drinks and a great atmosphere

I frequently visit Milwaukee and I have wanted to visit the yard for a few years now. I met a group of about 8 friends there on a Thursday night, and we arrived just after 6 o clock. As we began by ordering a round of drinks, I noticed that it took at least 10 minutes for our waitress to come over and greet us and at least 10 minutes for us to get our drinks after we ordered them. It was not very busy, so my hopes were that service would get better as the night went on. Unfortunately service did not improve at all- many of our drinks were not delivered for 10 to 15 minutes and there were at least 3 times were we had to ask where our drinks were. Drink orders were often wrong as well- for example a Moscow mule was brought when a beer was ordered etc. An entirely different issue was shortly after a few drops of rain fell. We took cover and it ended within a few minutes so we went back to our spot. The waitress came over and said that the manager was deciding if they were going to keep the outdoor space open or not because of the rain, so our drink order would have to wait until that decision was made. I had trouble understanding why our drinks couldn't be made and then brought to wherever it was deemed we could be seated. Your classic case of terrible customer service. Overall, I was really disappointed, especially since we spent close to $500. I contacted their management directly about 3 weeks ago, but never heard a thing back from them. read more

Awesome. But there is a fan that goes off every time someone opens the door and its so annoying. Shut it off and ill give you the last star

Not a lot of options on the menu. I tried the burger, it was good but not memorable compared to Oscars, sobelmans, lulus. Also found it odd that there were no condiments. They did bring some ketchup and mustard in a cup when we asked though. What I LOVE, is the outdoor patio. Very nice chill place, bonfires at night. There is not much parking so I had to drive around the turnabout about 3x. Would go back for drinks. read more

Here is what I liked about my experience in The Yard last night: large, comfortable, welcoming patio with lots of different seating options; good happy hour drink specials. Here is what was just okay: the service (we had to ask for help even though we were sitting at the bar); the food (which was fine but certainly not exceptional). The Iron Horse has a reputation for being down right extraordinary, but the menu choices at The Yard were mundane and lacked creativity. Sure the food was good enough, but I can get pretzel bites or a pizza anywhere. Solid place, but not overly special. read more

Great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Try their homemade Sangria and sit back to some great music in an awesome venue. Very attentive staff. Menu looked great, but we didn't order anything this time around, a little pricey. read more

HORRIBLE MEAL EXPERIENCE! The Yard at the Iron Horse Hotel. Besides a long wait for a drink order and an impatient server who gave us a menu and expected us to order right away. Then the appetizer, Deviled Eggs. One was purple. I asked thinking and hoping it was beet juice colored. I asked, our server could not remember "what the name of the thing is"...I said Beet and he said, "yeah that's it". I mean, if you serve a purple colored egg with caviar, know what a beet is or how the color is derived. Then we waited for well over an hour for a fishfry. While waiting we ordered another round of drinks. My first drink, mix some fruit juice top with seltzer and gimme a lime. "OK", he said. Well my drink..no lime, I got an orange, second round, no seltzer or lime or fruit at all. I just wanted lime. I didn't ask for lime as I was certain by the time it arrived, it wouldn't be needed. Then the fishfry arrives AFTER people who arrived 1/2 hour after us were served theirs. I told my companion/friend, "This fish better be the saving grace." It was not. The fish tasted of oil that something was burned in. Bad. The aftertaste lingered and lingered. The fries were smashed with tongs and way undercooked. Cooked enough to be smashable, but not enough to be done and brown or golden at best. The slaw....yikes, can they call it this? It was horrendously stuffed in a small glass and filled with various sized shreds of different cabbages. Then the lightest of dressing making for a very dry slaw, but the worst was the cumin somebody decided goes in coleslaw. Oh and let us not forget the houseband and a sound so tweaked out in treble it screeched at me. Then just know that this was served by a server who seemed clueless at best and just thought serving was getting drinks....maybe and looking pretty. I share so you know and ......I don't care how "cool" the place is or "who" stays there or ......all I care about is give me my food, make it good and deliver.YUCK! 100%YUCK! Inattentive and crappy. Oh but the couch and the view and the ........I wanted out and away so bad, but I was intent on seeing this experience through to the bitter burnt oil end. Can you taste it? read more

I have been to Iron Horse several times to dine, for various parties, and to have drinks with friends. Every time I have ever been there, prior to today, was great. This review is focused solely on The Yard patio. Having been here on previous occasions with great service, drinks, and overall vibe I thought this would be a nice place to bring my middle-aged mother for a few drinks while she was in town. Upon arrival, we found a table in the shade and were greeted by blaring, over the top music. It was definitely hard rock, "headbanging," music. It also was difficult to carry on a conversation because it was so loud. I figured it was just the song and waited for the next tune to carry on. After a few songs, I realized that this was the station being played. Normally I am unopposed to any music genre at venues, but given that it was 3pm on a Saturday afternoon I was hoping for a nice, relaxing vibe and not "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Upon returning from the restroom, my mother politely asked the bartender if the music could be turned down a notch to which she was told, "negative." A bit later, I asked our server if the music could be taken down and eventually it did come down a few notches. (Thank you, we were very grateful!). However, the whole vibe was not what were were looking for on a Saturday afternoon and left after one drink. I should mention that our drinks were wonderful and our server was very friendly. We just couldn't enjoy ourselves due to the volume and music selection for a Saturday afternoon. I know this probably seems nit picky, but I was very disappointed having been to this venue several times before and never had this experience. I was hoping to show my mom a chic Milwaukee patio and it ended up feeling like we were at a hard rock concert from several decades ago. If I can make any recommendation to the staff at the Iron Horse, The Yard, it would be to play the music at a reasonable volume and to play a wider variety of music that won't deter people. read more
