There is a special charm and feel you get from the place which is set up for families to create memories without a lot of interruption from the outside. Between the closed in porch, the fireplace or kitchen table inside or the chairs in the yard, the grills by the dock or the beautiful lake there are multiple locations to gather, play games and just share time together. We can envision our family spending a week in this unique setting and actively contemplating when we can schedule our longer visit.

Tucked into the corner of the basin of Lake Winnipesaukee with easy access to the "big lake," but all the quiet of a much smaller lake, this spot is truly a gem. It's easy to fall in love with Sunset Lodges while reading on their large dock, waterskiing around the basin or enjoying a refreshing swim. The cabins are charming, with big windows that look out on the lake and large stone fireplaces to help warm you up on a chilly evening. We also really enjoy that the lovely town of Wolfeboro is just a few minutes down the road, making shopping for groceries or grabbing a quick breakfast out very convenient. This is a great place for families and groups of people vacationing together.

It's a fantastic location, you'd think it might be loud and busy, but it was perfect for its being so close to Weirs, and even located directly on the channel, boat traffic was entertaining not a nuisance. Our room was large and has three beds. This was perfect for me and my two teenagers. The beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub. There is no breakfast. They have coffee and granola bars available for free. The carpets were dated. The hallways were dark. Reminded us of The Shining. The hot tub was very small. One of the lights had fallen out of the pool and was laying on the bottom of the deep end. We only paid $139 per night. Off season prices. We would stay here again. But I am not sure I would want to pay extra summer rates for a hotel that needs some updated.

The site we stayed on (113) is the only transient site with a view that isn't on a busy road. It's super rocky and the water spigot flows into the only area flat enough to pitch a tent, but the view and proximity to attractions made it worth it. (FYI the "beach" is minuscule and always crowded.) The price was reasonable, and the people were friendly, so we rebooked for next year. After paying our deposit and securing the same site for next year we ordered a custom base for our tent to elevate it off the rocks and protect it from the water flow. Three days after it shipped, Paugus Bay Campground called to cancel our reservation with some story about dates shifting because of Bike Week, but when we agreed to take whatever dates were available they admitted they were giving our reservation to people who've been staying there longer and that we wouldn't be getting that site again. I understand taking care of your regulars, but they took the reservation and our deposit. Now we're out $800 for equipment we ordered specifically for this site, and when I tried to explain that Sue (?) nastily told me "That's not our problem." It disgusting that there were no cancellations allowed for my friend, but that my reservation is meaningless and I was essentially told to go f**k myself. I'm sure it's lovely to stay here if you've been doing so for decades, but there is no hospitality here for newcomers.

I didn't realize there was free continental breakfast served daily between 8 to 10. Lots of great choices from cold cereals to eggs. You can eat in the breakfast area, or take back to your room. Plates and utensils are provided. Many different kinds of drinks are available in the cooler. Other than the hot tub, there is a small workout room, sauna, and beach on premises. Each room has a coffee maker with coffee and tea provided. They also provide shampoo, conditioner, and soap. There is an ice machine downstairs for ice coffee or drinks.
