My main issue with Dive Winnipesaukee isn't selection or pricing--it's the staff. Diving Lake Winnipesaukee is cold, dark, has a short season, rough water, and not a lot to see. I spend my personal time on this, driving the boat of the car up to an hour just to get to this shop and another hour in four foot chop to reach a dive site on the opposite end of the lake. Between hauling heavy gear and long drives, the process is already a hassle. The staff could easily make the experience better and the day better, but instead, they make it worse. I've been here a few times. I walk in through the back door to the front counter and stand there while two teenagers focus on renting someone a canoe. Five minutes pass without a greeting, an acknowledgment, a basic "we'll be right with you " or even better a "you finish this while I help this person" (it doesn't take two people to rent a trampoline). Eventually I see someone in the back room, go to that employee, and politely ask to get a tank serviced and rent another one for the day. The transaction itself is purely clinical--exactly like walking into a doctor's office. I get handed a clipboard, fill it out, show my dive card, pay for the rental, get my receipt, and get sent on my way. When checking in my tank for a simple visual inspection, the staff member behind the counter asked for the date of manufacture on the tank. I mentioned I bought it brand new last year (meaning it's less than five years old), and she retorted, "Well, I need to check to make sure it doesn't need a hydrostatic inspection." Everyone in the dive community casually calls it a hydro. Using full the terminology just comes across as insecure (like you have to prove you know the full name) or it's pretentious. During a 15-minute rental process at any other dive shop I've ever been to, there's some basic small talk. Staff ask where you're diving today or talk about local sites, and you get to know the people. Here that isn't the case. The staff is generally unfriendly. I don't like going in there, I don't like interacting with them, and I'd rather avoid them entirely. My friend who knows them, said their problem is they're the only dive shop on the lake. He says competition demands exceptional service and customer loyalty where a monopoly does not. I agree. If another dive shop opened anywhere on Winnipesaukee, I would switch to them in a heartbeat, even if it were more expensive or further away.

As we were visiting in July, I got tickets to do the mountain coaster and it was great. Getting there was easy and there are large signs along the way to help guide you there easily. Once arrived at the huge parking lot, we locked the car and went to the ticket office where the super friendly young lady checked us in and let us know where to go. The coaster is clearly marked and when we got there, the line was very small. We had a timed ticket so we had unlimited rides for two hours. We rode the coaster a total of three times (took just over 30 minutes total) and that was plenty. It was a lot of fun and it's a thrill going through the trees so quickly...even the ride up is fun and scenic. There are a lot of staff helping on-board and off-board riders and they were all very friendly and helpful. The ride is safe for all ages and we saw little kids riding with their parents, youngsters riding alone (if they met the height requirement) and even grandparents riding it. It was a lot of fun...thrilling but not too scary. Just a reminder...you need to wear closed toe shows. Flip-flops and Crocs won't due it so bring some sneakers. There was a craft show going on while we where there so we walked around and spent some money on local food. That was nice. We also saw people on the zip lines and they all seemed to be having a blast. If we come back, I will definitely sign up for that. This was just a fun time at a nice place with friendly staff. The place feels so laid back (although safety is paramount so I don't want it to seem that wasn't taken seriously). If you come here, I think you'll be like me and leave with two things: 1) a smile on your face; and 2) a desire to come back soon.

There is the Penny chairlift that does not go far up the mtn at all--it takes you a little bit up to try out some green trails. Those slopes are not very wide which is helpful for beginners in my opinion BUT my friends enjoyed it.

They detailed the boat, gave us bumpers, life vests, and 4 lines so we could tie the boat off. I felt we paid a reasonable amount, I was happy, and took delivery Labor Day weekend. They winterized it, stored it, and got it ready for a June pick-up. I'm now dealing with the service department, and I feel they are bending over backwards to accommodate us. We got there 10minutes early and were informed some guidelines to follow. Got myself a hat since I forgot to bring one was pretty cold. Since it was during offseason we were only ones there. We were escorted to the gear house and equipped with helmet, safety harness and a latch. The staff gave us a ride to the zip line course and took a truck up the hill. They did tell us to make sure to keep helmet on and seatbelt because it was going to be rough ride up due to it being mud season. It sure was a rough ride up and probably was in the air quite a few times during the ride. I looked at one of the staff and used my foot to secure myself like he was doing to keep myself stable which helped. It was definitely the toughest part of the experience. Once we got to the zip line area we were given a brief instructions for safety and we buckled up and started our zip line session. In the beginning it was a bit intimidating but the staffs were all very nice and made us feel safe during the experience. Once we got going it was very enjoyable and thrilling. It was cold but we were mostly prepared and dressed warm and the hat I purchased helped. The views were also beautiful. At the end we got to go in a treehouse and take some picture at the end. After we finished we were escorted back to the truck and took the van to the main facility which was a mild ride compared to on the way. We dropped off our equipments and left the facility. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and had a great time. Everyone was nice and accommodating made us feel safe. It was also nice that we were only ones there because we got a private session and full attention during the experience. Definitely would recommend for those that enjoy or beginner who would like to try zip lining. My partner who can be la little anxious about these experience enjoyed it and was perfectly fine throughout the experience. The experience was a bit on pricier side but I think it was worth it.

The car ride is very bumpy, and it for the faint of heart. If you have back problems, this is not the car ride for you~ apparently during the summer, guests have to hike up rather than use the trucks which seems like a moderate level walk in my opinion. We were the only guest since it was spring off season~ plenty of mud but it was great! We prepped with our hiking boots, layers, and hats are a must. Gloves helped our hands stay warm. The staff seem close and look like they enjoy what they do~ really great experience filled with views and good happy adrenaline screams!

This year I was convinced to join another couple families for their yearly trip to On the Saco Campground and I'm glad I did. It's not a huge place, but it's very well kept and VERY clean. No smelly outhouses or grimy bathrooms, both were maybe a little rustic but in good working order and again, very clean. My site was tree lined giving plenty of privacy, nicely mowed and had a fire ring. I don't know if they employ some kind of mosquito management but for a wooded site about 80ft from water, I didn't get one bite over my 3 night stay. There's a little store with pretty much any essential you may have forgotten for sale, small game room, washer/dryer, and dishwashing area. You can rent tubes and canoes, (I did both) and the staff is super friendly and helpful, (especially when we got caught in the rain and they came to pick us up earlier and at a different location than intended). They had some kind of activity everyday, I saw face painting one afternoon by the office, there was a glow stick parade one night, corn-hole tournament the next, and a movie night the third. A lot of Saco campground are shitshows, (I'm talking about you Fiddlehead!) full of wasted college kids, this place IS NOT THAT. If that's what you want, keep moving. However, if you're looking for a clean, friendly place that is definitely family friendly and a more peaceful but still fun experience I'd recommend On the Saco Family Campground for sure.

The first few times we had large groups of people with us, all meeting up to go down the river together. They accommodated us the best they could and we did the rest. You can rent tubes, cooler tubes, dog tubes, kayaks, canoes and more. They provide you with a life jacket and ticket time to be ready for your shuttle. They then shuttle you to a drop off location along the mighty Saco River. They transport you, your tube, and all your belongings right to the drop off. You can choose the length of your trip upon purchase. There is a one mile, three mile, and five mile trip down river. You can choose to repeat the trip, as long as there is time before they close for you to do so. They open early, like 8 am and close at 5 pm. The river is beautiful, and varies in depth throughout the trip. There's plenty of beaches to stop and enjoy a packed lunch or a snack. Please stay off of any beach that says "private" as they are not part of the rental companies lands. There's a couple of rope swings to stop at, but remember, you're stopping with no liability on the rental company. They are not liable for much on these trips. You sign paperwork ahead of time, stating such. Their booth has some items you may need for the trip down river, such as waterproof bags, dry bags, phone bags, goggles, paddles, sunblock, sunglasses and more, of course all priced slightly up. I really enjoy renting and tubing with this company, they've got it down after all these years. Definitely a really fun thing to do during a hot summer day.

While their lift tickets can be a bit pricy, hitting them up during the shoulder seasons can help with affordability. I've been here in both early winter and late spring and found the trails to be in good condition! As someone who sticks to the greens with an occasional blue mixed in, their trails offer enough variety to keep me entertained throughout the day. I like having my pick of 4 chairlifts and a gondola to check out different sections of the mountain. On my last visit, there was a very challenging weather day the day before my visit and it was clear the staff were hard at work overnight to groom the trails. Throughout the day, they were actively working to open additional trails (at which they were very successful) as well as firing the snow machines to get other parts of the mountain open as soon as possible. The lower lodge is straightforward, offering plenty of seating to change into your ski boots and eat a meal. The food is pricy but we always try to make sure we have options out in the car to manage our costs throughout the day. That isn't unique to this ski resort of course though. The upper lodge at the top of the gondola is nice as well. Unlike the lower lodge, their bathrooms are on the same level as the entrance so no having to manage stairs in clunky boots. Gorgeous views of Mount Washington from the peak! Worth it on a bluebird day!
