There are numerous places to buy wine but Wine Merchant goes above and beyond to make sure that folks get the best quality wine for the most reasonable prices. Although they aren't open for in person shopping, I have enjoyed doing business with them over email more than ever. Their daily newsletter with specials/bottles to look out for is perfect for me because it gives me a quick description/rating, and then I can look it up myself to find a suitable food to pair it with. All in all, I've had nothing but great experiences with this store and have even started my own mini wine collection because of them. YES! I love the Wine Merchant's new location. It's a lot easier to access and a major facility upgrade. The building itself is a lot nicer and I hear they have a large basement. I came in to pick up 24 bottles of wine for an event I was hosting nearby. One of my favorite things about Wine Merchant is how helpful the staff is. When I'm looking for wine, I rarely know what I'm doing unless I'm looking for a specific brand. Someone came over and helped me right away. I told them I needed something around $10 a bottle and 12 red/12 white. The staff member immediately knew his most popular bottles in that range and I went with them--they were both a huge hit. I love the Wine Merchant. It's a fantastic place to get cheese, wine and spirits. The staff knows their stuff too -- I think they've tried every wine they have haha. I feel like most people think of this place and, b/c it's a wine shop, assume all the wine is expensive -- NOT the case! You're not going to beat the Wine Merchant as an overall quality wine shop. We've been going to their classes sporadically for maybe 10 years now, and they have never failed to show us a good time. Their classes have a wide range of prices and make great gifts. We went to a France vs. US class, where we tasted comparable wines from both countries. It was actually a France vs California class, to make it a little easier on the presenter. It worked. The content was interesting and our instructor was extremely open to whatever kinds of discussion people wanted to get into. My highlight: I asked whether he had ever had a dry Missouri wine he liked, half expecting him to say no. To my surprise, he said he did - a Norton that had been aged several years. They give a discount on all purchases made in the shop after class, so we picked up a few bottles. There is a great selection of cheaper wines here, and they are eager to help whether you want to spend $10 or $50 on a bottle. They've got something for everyone and for me, they have always been really approachable. Love the new digs, too. Very nice. Parking is in back, fyi. read more

The Wine Merchant is simply the best wine store ever. They have an amazing selection of wines and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They are never pushy or condescending, and they really know their sh*t. My husband and I regularly attend their classes as well, which are always enjoyable and informative. Jason is an especially great instructor! He's super knowledgeable and totally hilarious. Pro tip: they often have free tastings on Saturdays from featured winemakers, so those are a great way to try some new things. They also have a wide range of spirits/liquors, as well as mixers for cocktails. They carry Fever Tree ginger beer, which is the best ginger beer for moscow mules, in my opinion. The cheese counter here is awesome as well, and they will let you try anything. You can also stock up on all the other things you might need for a good cheese plate: nuts, crackers, honey, etc. I can't say enough good things about this place- I would give them 6 stars if I could. read more

The Wine Merchant is amazing! They helped us with all things related to wine and spirits for our destination wedding in St. Louis! Our cater didn't have the wines we preferred, so they allowed us to source from an outside vendor. Jason at TWM helped us to select an array of wines well suited to our taste and within our budget. They delivered our order directly to our caterer, which was hassle free! Jason also hand selected six special bottles of wine from around the world for us to use as our "guest book," which we had our guests sign and plan to open on our anniversaries. They also coordinated an order of spirits, wine and champagne which was delivered to our hotel. They have amazing wine and are friendly, knowledgeable, and just plain awesome. You won't find a better selection of wines and bubbles in the Clayton area and the new location is really quite amazing. They have fun classes that are affordable, informative and with enough samples that you leave feeling good. Plus they have samples every Saturday, Including food. And speaking of food they also have wine pairing nights with some of the better local restaurants. You have to get on their mailing list, they always have something going on. And they are usually happy to make a special custom orders even by the bottle. But if you do decide to get a case you'll save at least 10%! These guys will help you find a good read for less than 10 bucks or a nice bubbly that isn't sweet from the Champagne region - they know it all. read more

After a very trying day, I got home to realize that I was out of Maker's Mark and my husband was out of vodka. Call the National Guard! With us being new to the area, I realized I didn't have a home liquor store yet. So I hopped on Yelp and bada boom bada bing, Th Wine Merchant pops up. So, I mosey on over. My first impression of the place was that it was going to be extremely expensive. I was wrong. The pricing was relatively low and they have a wide array of merchandise. The pleasant part of this whole experience was being helped by John. He was very nice, personable and knowledgeable on the various Liquors and beers that they carry. After making my purchases, we started talking about the various types of beers that we like. John pointed me to a Spaten Optimator. He actually love this beer so much that he bought a six pack and gave me one of the beers! Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is customer service.
