Several years ago, while visiting in Kansas City, I ordered a Hibiscus Gin & Tonic at Jack Stack…read moreBarbecue. I feel in love with the drink and discovered Pinckney Bend. Sadly, however, I could not order any to ship home to California. A return visit to Missouri was planned and a road trip to The Hermann Wine Trail area was mapped out. Our first stop? Pinckney Bend in New Haven, of course! Planning to purchase a bottle of hibiscus gin and tonic mix, I left with three bottles of gin, two of the hibiscus tonic mix, one corn whiskey, a four-pack of premixed G&TS and Hibhounds in cans, a super-soft t-shirt and one travel-sized PB 8 oz flask, complete with 2 metal shot glasses! Oh yeah, they also sell drinks of the patio for a whopping $5! Support this local business and tell them Pat sent you! Cheers

There were special tastings inside and outside they had fire pits, bales of hay to sit on, fried food on sticks, live music and spiked warm/ cold drinks! They also had these fun fire games set up where you hit a target and a blast of fire lit up the sky - so cool! All of the drinks were amazing and they had a mug deal where if you bought the mug for $10 you could refill it for $3 - this was just for the party though. Everyone was super nice, even when my friend decided to make a hay angel after tripping in the drink line. It's also fun that Paddle Stop Brewery is across the street so we could choose from cocktails or beer. We kept saying that we felt like we stepped into Hallmark movie, with all the small town charm! This is an annual event and we can't wait to make the stop next year!!

This place is underrated. Went in a bit underwhelmed but I learned so much from the tour guide and…read morebecame a lot more impressed by the end of it. They have a whole library of alcohol with all their different flavor testing and experiments and it's really run by a tight knit group. The alcohols I tried were punchy and unique, and the ambiance grew on me. Definitely going to go back and try out their cocktail Fridays!

Gin is my favorite spirit, but before doing a tour with Still 630, I had never tried it neat. Now,…read morethanks to visiting this place, I only want to drink my gin straight up. And by the way, the gin they're making here is amazing. They have a few different gins, but my favorite was Volstead's Folly, which is juniper forward with a bit of pine. I love a good botanical gin, and this one was perfect. Another spirit that stood out that I tried was the Big Jake, which is a whiskey with natural coffee flavors in it. I had never tried anything like that before! I don't know if I could down a shot of it, but I could see this being a good addition to an espresso-flavored cocktail. Anyway, the tasting portion of the tour was my favorite, of course. We got to taste three different spirits of our choosing. But we also got to see the small distillery, and we were taken to the back where the barrels were. There's not a whole lot to see because Still 630 is a small operation. But the owner was friendly and funny, so he made the tour well worth the trip.

This time it…read morewas a planned stop, even though it meant leaving my first time on Whiskey Row before 11:00 AM to get here. I had seen the had some higher priced bottles (maybe someday) but i was sure I would find something i liked. I was also sure it would be one of there bourbons . . . . but I ended up leaving with 3 different corn whiskies. One made from red corn, one from blue corn, and a red, white, and blue corn whiskey (250th anniversary of the USA remember). I showed up around 4:00 PM and hadn't signed up for a tour but they were happy to give me a quick tour as well as walk me through every single whiskey. I had a sample flight and ended up taking hme one or two more than planned. Oh, and the guy actually makes wood hats too. You can try them on too. The one i tried on was a little small for me, so no laughing at the picture . . . . okay?

Then, she took us back to where they make their products. They were in the process of distilling the day we visited, so it was fun to see everything in action. We also got to meet and chat with the owner - such a great experience. That guy has lived a LIFE. I'm not a huge whiskey fan, but my husband has liked everything he's had from Wood Hat. Definitely stop by if driving on 1-70!
