We visited The Windmill Winery, and it's such a beautiful, relaxing place to enjoy a glass, or a bottle of wine. It's about an hour and a half drive from Phoenix, so it feels like a nice little escape without going too far. We came on a Sunday, and they had live music going until 5 pm, which made the whole experience even better. Some weekends they also have food trucks, so it's definitely a fun spot to hang out for a few hours. This place would also be amazing for weddings, parties, or any special events. The setting is gorgeous and super peaceful. They have a full bar, lots of wine options, and a wine tasting menu. I personally like sweet wines, and my favorite was the Centori Moscato D'Asti. We had the most amazing opportunity to have our wedding at the Windmill Winery on March 21st 2025 at the Lake House and good gravy, it was a million times better than I could have ever imagined. Every detail came together beautifully and everyone we had the pleasure of working with at the Winery was so amazingly attentive and responsive. Every detail was thought of and meticulously gone over, and they were able to make every dream come true. The actual day was perfect and Ms. Tana took care of everything. I had no idea of all of the moving parts happening in the background but they ensured everything went off without a hitch. Booked a venue tour. The tour guide, Tala Sheet, was NOT nice. She took off just about running away from us and got really angry anytime we couldn't keep up. We didn't get to see anything important to us because she was too busy trying to race home. She took it as far as YELLING at my 63 year old dad to "keep up" because she has "other things to do" and "it's hot outside". I then had to tell her that my dad can't run because he has two bad knees and she responds with "well how was I supposed to know that". 1. She shouldn't have to know he can't run... we're at a venue tour not a track competition. 2. ITS HER JOB. If it's too hot outside for you, don't schedule to give us a tour at 2pm. Go find an inside job, that's not my problem. 3. She never spoke to me. She gave my mom a small tour talk, when she could keep up with her, but then couldn't speak to me? The one getting married. The whole point of this scheduled tour was to see the venue and hear more about it and we simple didn't get any of that from her. She was disrespectful and rude to my family and I. We will absolutely not be back and definitely not getting married there. I hope no one else has to be treated like that. 1/5 stars. The positives being that the bartender was sweet, the vibes are different and the views we did see of the venue were very nice, but not worth the terrible attitude and disrespect. read more

It wasn't even my wedding! We went to a wedding at the Windmill Winery, and there was the suggested DJ. I have been to a few weddings, and what I know is the DJ is everything. Yes, the photographer is important, but the DJ is the party; people remember the party; you only see the pictures. The bride and groom took countless hours putting together a song list of 45 "must-have songs"; 15 were played. The DJ forgot the names of the bride and groom multiple times and even had minutes on the dance floor where no music and awkward silence filled the room. Now, on a good note, there was an itinerary for how the night was supposed to go. On that itinerary was the order people were talking and dancing. The only people to look at it were the bridal party and the wedding planner. The matron of honor had to take over talking because the DJ was lost. Come to find out, the DJ at this wedding was a last-minute replacement because the "head guy" overbooked. You know the big salt in the wound was the guy that was supposed to DJ was 100 yards at another wedding. There were so many more things to say about it that did not go as planned. I know I would have been happier with a rented Bluetooth speaker and a Spotify playlist. With a wedding, there is no "do over" and no "rewind." We can't replay and do it different. And if you want to risk it to hopefully make sure this guy gets his schedule right, then good luck to ya. Food was mediocre at best. Cater in chipotle. Now if you want to spend more money and get the big barn, it looked like fun when we walked past the other wedding. But if you are the couple that is in a budget, pass this place up. The last time we were here we asked about food trucks or bringing a picnic basket. We were told no picnic baskets but food trucks are common when the weather turns cooler. We drove 40 miles and need a snack with our wine. You can't have a real winery without offering food or at least allow patrons to brinv a basket of goodies. Very disappointed. My husband and I were married here June 2015 and loved every minute. Karen was my planner then and she was so detailed and friendly. I ended up really sick and Karen did everything she could to make sure I was feeling my best when I walked down the aisle. The venders that were booked through them were fantastic . I still get compliments on the food and atmosphere from the evening. We recently had the chance to be guests for a friends wedding and experience the winery from a different perspective. There was a wedding taking place in the barn area, so it was a packed parking lot, but easy to get to the overflow. The patio is behind the tasting room. It was a lovely evening. Sierra Sound was providing live music and Little Dippers was the food truck onsite. The bar not only features their local Windmill brands, but an extensive list of wines, beers and cocktails. Review from a very recent bride at this venue: I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. I had my wedding here a couple weeks ago, and while the venue itself is beautiful, I had the most terrible and hectic day because of "policies" that don't make sense and staff that made it obvious we were a bother to them. We paid $20,000 plus for the "premium package" and unfortunately it rained the entire day. Little did I know the rain was going to be the least of my problems. This package included lawn games, a bonfire, a vintage car, and a "wedding coordinator". From the beginning, I had questions about specific things like the very tight timeline Alyssa (wedding coordinator) created. I was expected to be dressed for my first look by 3:10, but wasn't allowed into the bridal cottage until 3pm. 10 minutes seemed like a ridiculous amount of time for me to get ready so I emailed Alyssa and I was never given an answer about moving the timeline around a bit. Instead she seemed to ignore my questions in emails and would ask me to answer questions for her. In order for me to just arrive 30 min earlier, I would've had to pay an extra $250 out of pocket. As if the initial $20k wasn't enough. Also, all of the extras we paid for "lawn games, vintage car and bonfire were not able to be used because of the rain (which I know was no one's fault) but no money was reimbursed to me, or put towards something else like alcohol or even an extra few songs at the end of the night. Not to mention the fact that we paid for my wedding to be until 11pm, and the music was cut at 10:15, 45 minutes paid for and wasted. So if even after all of these bad reviews you still decide to use this venue, keep in mind that your wedding will end 45 minutes early and your family and guests will be forced to clean while the staff watch. For the bar, we contributed a certain amount and specifically asked for our contribution to be used only for beers and seltzers, and all well drinks be paid for. That was completely ignored and the money we contributed ran out way faster than we expected. The day before my wedding, I found out it was supposed to rain all day. No one had reached out about what was going to happen or what arrangements would be made. I had to email Alyssa to see what the alternative would be for my ceremony since it was supposed to be outside. read more

We hadn't been for a couple years due to COVID and was looking forward to our visit. I emailed off their website asking if the paint n pour and cowboy church was still going on as I had company coming to town. I happened to used my business email (adult product site). I gather the woman that replied was offended as she replied with a harsh NO! I said thank you for your quick reply and sorry to hear these event were no longer available. I ended up going to see cousin Jeff and found out that the paint n pour WAS still going on. I gather my ForbiddenApple.ca tag offended her (can't remember her name) but they lost out on 6 customers as I had family in town. The paint n pour is great!! The bar tender staff was SLOW (heavy set early 40's) and not friendly. They need better staff except for cousin Jeff :). He's the great and gives the wagon rides around the property. I do not regret choosing my wedding venue at the Windmill Winery! We have spent several hours researching for venues that were in the Phoenix area that depicts the dream rustic chic wedding I wanted. We went to a few venues and never got the "wow" factor in any of them. Driving to this venue was a pain - don't get me wrong. You feel like you are driving in the middle of nowhere because well, you are. However, right when you set foot in the property, it's like a different world. It's beautiful, it's charming, it's rustic, it's calming, it's everything I wanted! They show you the property and there is a tasting room, and two different venues: the lake and the barn. What I believe was a huge perk was the fact that they have packages! You can choose to use the DJ services, the cake vendors and the caterers they have partnered with which I thought helped relieve the stress on my part. They also give you a wedding coordinator with your package!! They were so easy to work with, very responsive, and my wedding turned out to be the dream wedding I've always wanted! Now, there were a few hang ups here and there, but I would pick Windmill again in a heartbeat! All my guests loved the venue and we received so many compliments! Just got married here this weekend. There were so many pros rather than cons for everything involved! The only con I care to mention has more to do with the hotel than the venue, however I'm mentioning it because it's the ONLY hotel for about 20 Miles. If you have lots of family traveling to the venue you need to plan ahead and reserve rooms. The hotel was completely booked 4 months before our wedding. The pro's: The venue is truly magical. Every single part of it is picture perfect and gives you that rustic wow factor you think you can only dream of. All of our guests were completely blown away by the venue, especially after being so confused as to why we chose a city in the middle of nowhere. Our people were perfect, Kathy was exactly who we needed her to be on our wedding day, she was firm in enforcing any rules things we asked her to do. She went out of her way to meet us to do a rehearsal and pick up waters from us. Joel from DJ elegante was the HIGHLIGHT of the night. He played a fun dinner game and everyone loved it. Sheryl from everybody loves flowers set up everything we brought as far as directions and is responsible for our beautiful arch which was by far my favorite decor. Overall, the selected vendors we chose were amazing. Piece of cake AZ, cake was beautiful AND tasted so good. Jasmine Amber Photography, she is a BOSS we loved spending so much time with her, and our videographers from emotion cinematography were so thoughtful and detail oriented the entire time! We drove from Phoenix on our last day of vacation because we had enjoyed this winery on a previous vacation. We came into an empty tasting room. Eventually a couple employees wandered through and implied the server would be back. Eventually she returned and proceeded to serve another group that came in after us. We sat at a table for 30 minutes without being so much as acknowledged that we were in the tiny tasting room. Another person came in and the server then left to show her the property, again not even acknowledging that she saw us. Eventually we left without being served or even spoken to. As we walked out we saw the server outside and again it was if we didn't exist. What a disappointment. I can't say I've ever left an establishment feeling the way I do. Part 2 for Melissa F review Below. (I am the groom) On the wedding day, I got to the venue as early as I could. I walked into the barn and found family members and guests moving tables and chairs to create somewhat of an aisle for me indoors. Meanwhile, Alyssa and all staff sat back and watched. One of my guests was told by Alyssa that she wasn't allowed to move tables because of "insurance purposes" so when my guest asked her if she could move the tables instead, Alyssa asked her for her help. Makes a lot of sense right? The whole time we were scrambling and running around in the rain, there was employees in golf carts sitting back, not once was a ride offered to me, or any of the bridesmaids to help us being that it was pouring. Even my guests had to walk through the rain. Again I know the rain wasn't anyone's fault, but it really doesn't take much to try and be helpful at the very least. Or don't have staff drive around in covered golf carts while everyone else, including the bride is getting rained on. We paid for the beer burro, and no one knew about the drinks outside for the cocktail hour because it wasn't announced. He was supposed to stay stocked up with beer for the entire hour and I don't even know if that was done. Once the ceremony was over, guests were the ones putting their chairs back into place, while once again the staff was no help. The dj announced a phone number for guests to send in song requests, all to end up ignoring most of their requests and playing whatever he wanted. Also I spent time adding songs to the app he provided for him to play during the ceremony, and again, I'm not sure if that even happened. More of my time wasted. He decided to play random games without asking us when he should've let people go get their food one table at a time like normal. Once the reception was going, I was told about a ceiling leak right by one of my family members, and then another in a different area. I notified an employee, and they said they would take care of it. Instead, I had a guest on hands and knees wiping the floor with a towel that was handed to them. Nobody was told to be careful about the mess of water on the floor or anything. A venue that's charging this much money should have a backup or procedure for when it rains. We were told guests weren't allowed to bring in alcohol, which is understandable. What's not understandable is staff looking through a guest's purse and and taking a sealed bottle out of it. Again, a SEALED bottle. When is it okay to invade someone's belongings like that? Especially when the purse was put away under a table. Not only were staff unpleasant but now I had one of my guests crying because of what staff decided to do. We know it was them because we got the bottle back from them at the end of the night. So unacceptable and embarrassing for me. The night ended with me crying in front of my guests and staff looking bothered that we were still there. Everything is painted so well when they're trying to sell you the place but then once they have your money, it's all crappy service after that. The only thing I have zero complaints is the food staff and cake. They were efficient and wonderful. Other than that, choosing this place was a huge mistake and unfortunately my wedding can't be redone. A day that was supposed to be special was mostly ruined and I'm still hearing about it from my guests weeks after. My only hope that this can help someone choose a venue that makes their wedding the least stressful and most amazing day ever. read more

We went to the windmill winery on3-11-23 to taste some wines and listen to some music. Before we had called and were told there would be several food trucks there. The music (Jeremy Marsh ) was outstanding.the wines and bar staff did a great job. The only family old truck that was there was Madd Pitas and tacos. They were supposed to start at 5:00. I went to them at 5:15 to see if they had a menu so I could take to our table (8 people) so we could put in one order. The not so nice lady told they weren't ready and I should just go sit down. The tacos ended up being very expensive street tacos. Not worth the pricprice and not very good. The tacos were supposed to be (life changing). They were right. It made you want to never have them again. There hot sauce was packets of tomato sauce. Unfortunately they were the only game in town that night so they made a killing. Talking to people at other tables, they said (what a joke). I would go without eating before I would eat there terrible food or patronize ther rude business. Added bonus was the all-inclusive feature of catering, DJ and cake being part of the package. There are several vendors to choose from in each category and everything is absolutely amazing. We received tons of compliments from our guests and everyone had a fabulous time. Our Event Coordinator, Karen, helped to ensure that everything went absolutely smooth and as planned...there were no hidden surprises taking away from the happiness and beauty of the day! Be warned...Although everyone that we came across here as very nice, they are big sales people. At the end of the day transparency is key for your wedding day and do not settle for anything less. The packages that they talked about during their open house DO NOT include alcohol. I SAY AGAIN, the packages that they are showing you in the booklet do not include alcohol OR soda. We were specifically told by someone that worked there that the ONLY ONLY ONLY things that were not included in the package include photography, officiant and floral. They stated this a few times. Well of course we fell in love with the venue and booked that day., put down the $1500 deposit. Two days later we got the contract and were about to sign it when my Dad noticed that no drinks were mentioned on it. I said oh the drinks are definitely included they made that very clear at the open house. We called just to confirm just in case... GUESS WHAT! They did not even OFFER us a beverage package before sending over the agreement. It was never even spoken about. shady eh? Seemed to me like they were just gonna stick us with that 3k bill day of. My fiancé and I were in shock. We would have had to pay on top of the original amount for beer and wine (and we were only allowed to pick 2 beers 2 wines) There was also no champagne toast available unless we used real, very expensive champagne from them. ALSO they were going to charge us $1 per can of soda. Really?!?! im spending 20k+ on a wedding with you and you are charging me for canned soda? Also the fire pit was extra $$, the lawn games were extra $$. This is a classic case of nickel and diming. Also, the contract stated that if they caught anyone on the premise with outside alcohol (such as a flask) they would end the wedding...... NO THANKS! The owners and staff at the Windmill Winery are awesome to work with. From the time we first visited, all the way to our daughter's wedding, they went above and beyond in every aspect. They truly want your event to be everything you've imagined. Their vendors are excellent. Both Sergio's and M's catering are delicious; you'll have a hard time deciding. The DJ selections are both awesome! Specifically, the event staff, Tana and Tala, literally saved our reception. Through a series of issues, the reception decor was in real danger of not being finished in time. They stepped in and did everything they could to help, including cleaning vases. They even sent pictures while the canopies were being hung to make sure they were getting the look we wanted. The property is beautiful with so many lovely photo spots. They helped our outside vendors feel welcomed and our guests loved the atmosphere they have created. It's an easy drive from the valley and worth checking out. Totally worth the drive! read more

The cocktail hour was delicious and the wedding was warm but at least we were not facing the sun. Overall it was a very beautiful venue. My daughter was married here this past Sunday.She looked like a princess and the setting was perfect.It's truly a beautiful place to get married and take pictures.But sadly, it stops there.The prime objective of every staff member is to get out of there early.We arrived an hour early and, in their defense, we knew that.My daughter needed AC and as we tried to see if we could gain early access to the Bridal Cottage we were greeted by the DJ.He stated she "couldn't go to the Bridal Cottage.It was too early.They're very strict on that" etc..Charming way to be greeted for the $16,000 plus price tag.Alyssa, the event manager, allowed us to gain early entry but no apologies were made.They were doing us a huge favor.Which is shocking since they have plenty of time to prep the room for the next paying guest.They tell you to move out of the bridal cottage during the event.I missed an hour of the celebration doing this.Alyssa also entered the Grooms Room, which we were told we could have until nine, at 7:30 when guys were changing - probably to see if they could clean and close that early too.This venue makes it quite clear they don't provide water, despite being located in the middle of the AZ desert.The groom dropped off 150 bottles of water to the site the day before the event.The day of the wedding it was pretty hot so it was used faster than anticipated.Guests survived by drinking warm water bottles from the trunk of my car.The groom himself asked for water at the bar and was told no.As was my 14 year old son.Two lifelong friends were told to finish their food so they could wash the dishes."No rush but we can't wash dishes until you finish." At 6:00 pm when we had the venue until 9.The food staff were definitely the rudest.They were clearing tables before people were done.Because the food was sparse (at $90 a plate I have no idea why) many people were hungry and waiting on seconds.I myself received six small mushy green beans, three tiny circles of chicken, (half dollar size and sliced like deli meat), one tablespoon of mashed potatoes and two one inch pieces of beef.Why even serve buffet style? To ration the offerings maybe.Because the DJ was incompetent he didn't call up every table to the buffet.Our friends who were told to hurry up sat at one of these tables.As the mother of the bride I knew the five place settings at our table were for my niece and family however they were unable to attend.Since I had given my son my three circles of meat we took clean plates up to the buffet in the hopes of seconds.What a mistake! We got in BIG TROUBLE from the servers.We were told everyone can have seconds but bring our own plates.What if the other people show up and there's no plate for them etc. I informed them politely that I happen to know, since I was the mother of the bride, that they weren't coming.How did they even keep track of this? Did they watch me? We were told we could have seconds plus there were several no shows so there should have been enough food.One of their guests was then told to move along by the meat server.He informed her she was holding up the line.Charming.Needless to say she left right away.This is actually when many other guests started leaving.Wouldn't you? Sparse food, rude wait staff, no water, no announcements that it was a free cocktail hour, no announcement there was a beer burro outside, a rude DJ not doing his job.The bride/father dance started without music.No music was played at the end of the ceremony.Fortunately our dear friends who had graciously come to sing at the wedding noticed and strummed a guitar to fill the silence.As people left two hours early the bride and groom sat at a table in the barn sipping warm water and being stared at by Alyssa and one other employee sitting behind the bar.The vibe was clear.Just leave already.However, they hadn't arranged for a pick up car to come that early. It was set for 9:15. They were told the evening would be a lovely time to sit outside and make s'mores. Maybe.If people knew to head out there.Or if they hadn't left to go get food.Nobody explained how to use the fire-pit anyway.We ended up giving out our s'more bags as additional party favors.I requested two seats up front for our guest singer and guitarist for the ceremony and that should have gone without saying.I understand the location of the winery and the animals on site of course but the rank smell of sewage was overpowering the entire day.Especially around the bridal cottage.On top of the hefty price tag budget for prep and clean up.My daughter paid the florist to prep but family cleaned up.You are responsible for pretty much everything so you will need to hire your own wedding coordinator to relay messages to the guests you can't get to because you're busy with the photographer.The staff here clearly haven't heard the old adage of "you can't redo weddings and funerals." I loved this place and really wanted my daughter to have her wedding here. She traveled from California for her scheduled tour and the day of was told not to come because of traffic from Country Thunder. She explained she was already in town and needed to tour that day so we were told to go ahead and come. We got there with zero traffic. A nice lady from the office walked us around but could not answer a lot of our questions and couldn't say anything on pricing. She was working with a coordinator who seemed to prefer text over phone calls and we felt like we were a burden to her. Spending $28k for one day shouldn't feel like that. In the end my daughter asked for a phone call on a specific day because she had some last few questions and we never heard from her again so we went elsewhere. We got married at the Windmill Winery in November 2019 at the brick arches and red barn. From start to finish everything went along with ease, and I always felt my questions and needs were not only heard but action was taken in making our once in a life time day become a reality. We started our Windmill Winery journey with Tana Sheets, she was amazing! She helped draft our contract and help guide us in making sure all the little details important to us were considered and communicated through to our venue support team. Karen Durham was our assigned coordinator; she too went above and beyond ensuring all would be perfect. Karen was calm and collected the day of and helped keep everything on track. I spoke to both Tana and Karen multiple times over the course of the year planning and they were always so responsive and helpful in their guidance. Angela Campo was also amazing! She helped organize our rehearsal at the wine tasting room and always had a smile on her face; she had a way of helping put your worries as ease. Angela, Karen, and Tana walked me to the barn before the ceremony to let me see how all the little details came together. It was a very special moment for me and I was so appreciative of all three of these women throughout the planning process and day of! Another thank you to the venue preferred DJ, Joel Gibbs, he was AMAZING! Joel helped make the reception be one of a kind and kept the energy alive the entire night. We used our own catering company, Bruce Brown Catering, who did an outstanding job as well. Honestly, it's a bummer... this rather charming property was ruined by poor customer service. Being rude to your customers isn't the best way of getting return business. It truly tainted our experience for the evening. And this is coming from a currently engaged couple who are still searching for a wedding venue as well... Hope they treat you better. read more
