Disclaimer: this place is really vintage road house. The real McCoy. We first ate here over 20 years ago and, despite a recent change in ownership, it has continued to offer the same excellent food and fine service it did two decades ago. Ate dinner here on June 13th. The Parmesan crusted chicken and the Whiskey Peppercorn New York steak were top notch; really superbly done. The crust on the chicken was very toothsome and the chicken was perfectly done, moist and flavorful. The accompanying bowtie pasta was "al dente" and served with clarified butter. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was flawless when delivered: pink in the center and nicely charred and peppery on the outside. The Windmill is legendary (i.e., legit). DISCLAIMER: This is meat-eaters paradise! The steaks here are prepared exceptionally, and wish care. The sides are delicious. The portions are caveman-style, but quality. I've eaten steak here a number of times, but the Halibut should NOT be ignored (when in season). I would advise my Yelp nation to try the steak first, though. The service is extremely friendly, they made my group feel like family. I agree with Matthew T.. Try the 18 oz round steak "The Mill" it is cooked to perfection as ordered. You have the choice to add extras such as pepper corn sauce, onions and other toppings. Toppings are extra but well worth the costs. The peppercorn and sauce are a bit over the barrel. If you are just wanting a perfectly cooked steak made to order here ya go. This restaurant has totally turned around and back to the 5 star mode under the new management along with Becky. She has served the Windmill well for many years.... I spent the first half of my life in Texas - eating a LOT of steak. Basically anywhere I go, I look for excellent steakhouses. I have had hundred-dollar-plus cuts of imported Wagyu beef all the way down to steaks you could afford when you were on a budget in college or high school. Sometimes the best steakhouses aren't what you'd expect (like a Morton's or a Daniel's Broiler) -- sometimes they are hidden little places that you would never expect could be so great by looking at the outside. We were looking for a good steak in Wenatchee and I saw the reviews of The Windmill on Yelp were pretty good. It was close by so we decided to give it a shot. As we pulled up, I kid you not, I said, "Hmm, I'm not so sure about this place - we might want to double check those reviews." Well - I'm glad we stayed because the food and the service were AMAZING. My financee and I both ordered a small Filet Mignon - we enjoy our steaks a bit thinner, so we ordered them butterfly-cut and medium. Many chefs are not used to butterfly-cut, and they will therefore overcook them -- but both our steaks came out absolutely perfect. Sometimes at steakhouses, you get some fat or gristle that you have to cut off assuming you're like me and you don't eat what you can't chew. This is the hallmark of the mediocre steakhouses -- and it even happens occasionally at $100-per-plate steakhouses. But not at the Windmill - these steaks were 100% quality meat and that is absolutely worth noting. I have a minor allergy to fresh garlic - and my fiancee noticed that the butter in the baked potato was very "garlicy" -- I asked our server about it and she said, "Oh yes there's real garlic in that butter - don't touch it! (which I appreciated) - and she promptly brought me out a replacement potato with clarified butter (since she said she didn't want to just toss cold butter chips on there). Our server also raved about a strawberry cheesecake pie which - based on her recommendation, we couldn't pass up -- and it was RIDICULOUS! And by that, I mean ridiculously good, and given my huge sweet tooth - I do NOT say that about desserts very easily. Flaky graham cracker crust, fresh, fruity and slightly tart strawberry filling, excellent cheesecake, and whipped cream -- this one made my "most memorable" list of all time, which is not an easy task. The price was "moderate+ to high" when looking at your final bill - but the value you get for your dollar is incredible. You get a steak AND a salad AND a side AND bread for the cost of an entree. That is tremendous value especially compared to steakhouses that charge $40-50 just for the steak and everything else is separate. Long story short - The Windmill is a hidden gem that you would never ever know by driving by. The steak was excellent, so was the service and the dessert we had. I can only hope that they do some marketing or get the word out about this place. We trip through Wenatchee quite often, and we will absolutely be back to The Windmill for dinner again. read more

Decided tonight would be a good time to try the Windmill. Friday night about 6:30 we stopped in and was quickly seated although the place was pretty busy. First thing I noticed was the tightly packed dining room and tiny little booths. Granted, I'm a big guy but this was a little worse than a sardine can. Water and a relish plate appeared almost immediately, there was no shortage of servers, and everyone was very friendly. I picked up the menu and suffered a few moments of sticker shock. I'm not cheap and anyone who knows me will agree I'm okay with paying a lot to get the best but for Wenatchee I'm of the opinion that this is excessive. I ordered the Medallions of Beef Broadway prepared medium with an upgraded Greek salad. The beef was $22 and the upgraded salad was an additional buck fifty. It was almost, but not quite, the cheapest item on the menu. My wife ordered the same. Bread was delivered after the salads. Our food was prepared well, the beef prepared as we ordered it, and was very tender. The sauce was mild despite lots of onions and peppers. Overall, we were both of the opinion that it lacked flavor and was a bit bland. Our meals were served with baked potatoes which were heavily dressed with butter and sour cream. They were of average size and well cooked. No specialty drinks tonight... Stuck with water through out the meal and our glasses were always kept full. Service was excellent... Our server Riki took good care of us without being overbearing or intrusive. Overall, I'm not sure we will be back since there are plenty of steak places around the area with lower prices, more comfortable seating, and food that is just as good. read more

First time visiting the Windmill in about 25 years. I was in town on business at the time and came back the next night. That awesome. Tonight was an absolute disappointment. I had the 10 oz. Tenderloin and upgraded to the mushroom and peppercorn topping. $54.00 and relatively tasteless. The topping was cold and dry. Others at the table tasted it and confirmed my observation. My wife had the prime rib and was equally disappointed, also cold, dry, and not the flavor one would expect given the price of the meal. Such prices should be accompanied by much greater attention to detail. The management should pay greater attention to what is being delivered to the table, and should not stand for plates sitting for extended periods of time under the lamp. With regard to the tenderloin. It was not a superior cut of meat, was not seasoned, and suffered from being left under the lamp. Do not know if they get another chance. Feeling ripped off. read more

I made reservations for my girlfriend and I for Valentine's Day. We showed up and were late to being sat even with said reservations. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees, all of which were extremely disappointing. The "sautéed mushrooms" looked like they came out of a can, room temperature and very bland. I had ordered the Chicken Oscar and she ordered the Salmon. My chicken was cold, hollandaise sauce looked and tasted like play-doh as well as the seasonal vegetables looking like they came out of the local Walmart's freezer section from 2010. Her salmon was also terrible. She mentioned how she had thought it tasted frozen, and let me tell you, I'd put a months worth of wages on that statement. Also, they charged $38 for a twist top, bottom shelf wine. VERY disappointed when hopes were set at a high bar for a special night. We went there because we had a gift certificate. Never went there otherwise because of the absurdly dated look outside and ugly location; the inside was even worse - like eating in your old granny's parlor. But the rest of the experience was also awful. It was just breakfast, so I thought for sure they could get an omelette right. It was disgustingly raw and when I sent it back, they just threw it back on the grill and and came back still raw on the inside but covered in an unedible skin on the outside. Veggies in it were also raw. And the waitress stood at our table and talked to my husband for 10 straight minute while the food got cold. It was bizarre. We went back to finish off the gift certificate and give dinner a chance (FYI, $100 was not enough for a simple breakfast and dinner, no drinks), and the food was mediocre. Meats were nothing we couldn't have easily made at home, and potato had some kind of gross sauce. How does a steak house get a baked potato wrong?? This used to be a top-notch steakhouse that was always extremely busy. We stopped here for the first time in over 10 years, and the situation has changed some; it wasn't busy at all, and the prices are comparatively way too high for the quality of the experience. The place is somewhat dated and the booths are pretty mediocre. My sirloin ($8 extra for "pepper sauce) was a very fine steak, medium rare like I requested. Partner's ribeye was overly fatty and undercooked for her medium. The best part of the meal was the garlic/parm fries and the nice salads. The desserts are still pretty good, homemade fruit pie and key lime pie, pricey but excellent. Thank goodness we don't drink wine, but the bill for two was still well over $100. read more

It was a marginal steak, not bad but not worth the price. My wife ordered the "fresh wild salmon". It was so under cooked, it was almost soupy in the middle. We were aware of the new owners and new chef and the fact that they had recently updated everything. There was a new outside eating area, however it was rather chilly and we chose to eat inside where the atmosphere is a little cramped, but still exuding the old school charm of a classic eatery. Although they are primarily a steakhouse, they did seem to have more options for those wanting chicken or seafood. We ordered a very fine local wine and decided to stick with the steaks that we so fondly remembered. We found them to be prepared expertly, really and truly prepared medium rare, not a tad over or under and so flavorful, tender and juicy. There were a wide variety of special sauces available to top the steaks; however we felt that they really did not need any flavor enhancement. The accompanying baked potatoes were delivered loaded along with some additional accoutrements, which were also really unnecessary as they were really just perfect. The homemade pie was fabulous, however we were all so blissful from the main course, that out table just split one serving. I wish I could give Zero stars. We didn't even get to our meal. Here is what happened... We had a party of 7. There were 3 open tables next to each other - two 4 seaters and a 2 seater. The waitress pushed a 2 seater and a 4 seater together for our 7 person party. The right move was to put the 2 tables of 4 together. Okay fine. Next thing I know a friend of one of the wait staff and his companion were seated at the 4 seater table. So we have 7 crammed in a spot for 6 and 2 lounging nicely in a spot for 4. Oh but it doesn't stop there. After saying something to the waitress, she shrugged and walked off. THEN we proceeded to wait 20 minutes to get someone to take our order. The couple next to us? About 3 minutes. Clearly we didn't have the right connections. My daughter and I walked out. She was feeling claustrophobic from the crammed space and I was just not willing to eat there anymore. We had appetizers, a few rounds of cocktails and the rib eye, a burger and the salmon. Satisfying and excellently prepared. No fuss. Those carrots though. Becky was attentive, funny and very kind. There was no request to silly (extra sides of homemade tartar sauce for the fries, can we share the rib eye?) for her. She brought an extra plate, the steak and meals were perfect, the drinks were a strong pour. And there's a coat rack!!! How sweet is that? She made sure the couple next to us was comfortable (we were a bit raucous), which I extra appreciated. Felt like dinner at my parents house. This restaurant has been on the northwest best places list for years. family owned. Home cooked, home baked everything. Delicious, very pricey ($50-per person) to eat here. Save it for a special occasion. The Steaks are wonderful and a lot of tlc is put into the food and atmosphere. You can only get beer or wine, and desert only comes with your meal, you can't just get a piece of pie to take out or dine in. this is the only thing that saddens me about this wonderful restaurant. because, I'm a desert person. read more

Although the Windmill had gone horribly downhill, a new owner purchased this Wenatchee icon in 2012 and has turned it around to what it used to be. Predominately a steak house, they also offer seafood and chicken plus beer, wine and spirits. The in-house baked pies to finish your meal are delish. The menu isn't huge, but plenty adequate. Liking a rare steak, mine was cooked to perfection and the potato was hot and fluffy and the salad fresh. They still quaintly offer the relish plate when you first sit down, just as it has been done since they first opened in 1931. Our satisfaction was paramount to our long-time server, Becky, who is also the restaurant's manager. Our service was attentive without being intrusive. This was my first time here but, i am seriously coming back. I had the mixed grill with the 4oz lobster tail and was hooked. The steak was like butter, finely cooked and i could have easily cut it with my fork it was superb.
