This with a check in window between 4pm and 6pm. We wanted to just toodle along and make it within that window but felt pressured to be more exact. When we arrived I asked when breakfast was served and was told 9 am. Period. No window this time, no asking what time would be best for us, just 9am. Admittedly we did not push back. Our host didn't ask if we had any food allergies nor were we given any choices whatsoever. We stayed in the Presidents room, comfortable bed, nice linens, very tiny shower with nowhere to even lay a washcloth. We heard traffic all night even with white noise on our phone. sigh A Keurig is available if you want coffee in the morning before 9am but Maxwell House only. sigh Breakfast was what appeared to be brewed coffee but was probably Maxwell House again, (no tea offered), mixed berries in cream, French toast with real maple syrup, link sausages (which I don't eat) orange juice(which I don't drink). The host proceeded to sit on a sofa in the breakfast nook and we felt we needed to strike up a conversation with him. This wouldn't have been quite so odd if he had ever introduced himself. sigh I wouldn't mind if this didn't cost us $228 for one night, a Thursday night. There are other choices in the area. My suggestion would be to try another B&B or a hotel.

The Atwood House and its proprietor Bill Hirsch offer accommodations that are unique and surprisingly affordable. The impressive historical brick home marries Greek Revival and Victorian architecture in a seamless and elegant fashion. The rooms are themed and welll appointed true to the personality they are meant to portray. The breakfasts are homemade with locally sourced ingredients and presented in a manner rivaling a 5-star hotel. But the best feature of this establishment is the owner, Bill who has a wealth of knowledge about the area that cannot be done justice in this review. I encourage a trip to Chillicothe and the Atwood House. You will leave with an indelible experience you will never forget.

My wife planned a surprise 2 day/1 night getaway for us and what a nice surprise it turned out to…read morebe. We wanted a place close to several Southern Ohio Points of Interest and it is very well located to Hillsboro, Bainbridge, Pike Lake State Park, Rocky Fork and Paint Creek. When we arrived, we were greeted by Jane & Doug - the proprietors. We immediately felt at home and loved the whole place. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was great. The room was comfortable, large and the bathroom was nice too with a great shower! We spent time with Jane & Doug talking and learning about their farm and getting a tour of the entire house Doug has built for them - what an amazing talent he has for woodwork. It was interesting to learn that the wood used in the house from trim to floors came from trees on the property - most of the wood had never left the farm. The house has tons of room for much larger groups and I could see us taking other family & friends for a weekend getaway in the future. We walked the property, which was really beautiful and even got to go on a golf cart ride a couple of times. There were homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk in the evening and in the morning Jane made us a true farm style breakfast that included coffee, orange juice, eggs, sausage, stewed apples and homemade scones - YUM! One other treasure is Luke, their 4 year old Golden Retriever, he only added to the warmth of the experience at this secluded getaway. My wife and I have travelled all over the country and stayed in dozens of places during our 22 years together and I can say on behalf of both of us, this place is a treasure if you are looking to get away, relax and meet some very nice people. You can visit or disappear to a cozy chair and read a book or take a nap - the experience can be whatever you decide to make it. We left feeling like we'd known them for years. Thank you Jane & Doug for a wonderful visit, we hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

We might have stayed here before, but we have family in town so we generally stay with them. But we didn't want to overwhelm them this time so stayed over here. Super service. They weren't very full last night, but I bet they will be tonight for the holiday. Pool is right up front, and we went in for a bit. No screaming kids. Rooms are small but nicely appointed. Fridge, microwave, decent TV. Comfy beds. Muted road noise, because you are right beside the highway. Fairly loud hallway noise, not bad on an emtpyish night but probably annoying when it's busy. Small bathroom, just the tub and toilet. Sink and mirror in room. Good enough for a short stay with a couple people. No extra outlets or USBs. Well, two outlets on the bedside lamp. Reasonable prices. Free wifi, seems a little weak though. Small free breakfast, nothing special. I'm sure we'll be back.

I was expecting to see it from the road but if you look close you will see a sign, then you turn and follow the road down and around and you will find it. Virginia's house is on one side and the log house on the other. We stayed in the downstairs room. It was huge and clean and comfortable. The entire log house has interesting decor and is super cute. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The property is large and fun to wander around. The location is great because you are close to Columbus and to nearby hiking and outdoor recreational areas.

This might as well be the Ritz Carlton Chillicothe. This sort of says it all: they have a salt…read morewater pool... not exactly what you think of when you think of a Holiday Inn Express. You can hands down say that if somehow this hotel pops up with a good rate, you ought to book it. It wasn't exactly cheap ($160/night) but I wasn't liking the looks of other hotels in the area. Rooms are clean and new. Hotel is quiet. Staff was friendly; they let me check in before 3:00 - what more could I ask for? They also have free WiFi, a mini-gym and a business center. P.S.: the front desk clerk said they're a pilot program for fresh breakfast. They don't serve pre-made, microwaved food: it's prepared in a real kitchen the same morning. Had a child or untrained animal consumed this pill (unknown if a vitamin, heart pill, or fentanyl added) could've sickened or killed any child or dog. I turned this in a nobody seemed to grasp the severity (not to mention housekeeping & Exec Housekeeper & GM walking rooms) lack of attention to detail Below are the pics of the room PTAC that hateful & sarcastic GM Chip said "ALL THE ROOMS SMELL THAT WAY when housekeeping turn on A/C for guests prior to arrival." Looking at pics and being familiar with PTACs, this thing hasn't been cleaned in a couple years. No wonder entire room smelled like rancid mildew. GM Chip's many condescending comments were not well received and will not be tolerated. Instead of offering to help move to different flagged hotels 1/2 mile away I wasn't aware of, Chip said the only rooms avail were at some nasty roach motel 2 doors away that I wouldn't stay in without an armed guard. Just when I thought Chip only treated me like a moron, upon loading car to leave, another gentleman stormed out extremely upset. He said GM Chip just treated him like a fool and refused to book the 15 rm block for a later date even though front desk showed rooms available. He said after clerk confirmed availability and he was going to pay deposit, Chip came around the ofc corner and told her not to book the rooms for his non-profit group because they may not be available. This guy was fuming. I can see why. Chip's style and demeanor are unacceptable. This hotel may be financially successful, but I assure you it isn't due to his people skills.

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

Strictly aesthetically speaking, German Village Guesthouse is a 5 star B&B. It's lovely. And…read morequaint. And beautifully located in the historic and picturesque German Village. Points for beauty, for sure. The thing with most B&B's that I've been to is the welcoming/homey feeling. GVGH is literally a home but doesn't have any type of check in table or actual person welcoming you into the establishment. This is actually typically fine by me, as a biz traveler I look for convenience and a low key option to rest my head. So, GVGH's stocked kitchen (homemade yogurt FTW) and impressive breakfast buffet spread was a welcome respite for a sometimes weary and non-social traveler. The home is decorated beautifully and the patio is probably just perfect with warmer weather. I can certainly see all the care in appointing the home and the guest rooms! A few items that I wasn't crazy about: 1) The aforementioned lack of human interaction when it came to welcoming me, check-in/out, etc. I didn't see a soul for the 20 hours I was in and out of here. 2) The locking mechanism on the door gave me trouble from the get-go despite reading their shared Google doc of how-tos a few times over. Said doc was the only item I had to connect me to the property. 3) The first floor room has a half wall shower that drives me bananas. I end up sloshing water everywhere despite trying to stay as close as possible to the shower head. Those three fairly minor items aside, if you're looking for a beautifully decorated but hands-off B&B stay with thoughtful accoutrements, give German Village Guest House a try.
