I've been meaning to stop in here and finally had the chance to this morning. My intention was to get coffee + a pain au chocolat, however, someone in front of me ordered the breakfast sandwich, and it looked so good I changed my mind. For a coffee shop located basically inside of a Metra station, many of the baristas lack any sort of urgency that naturally comes with patrons having to make trains. This morning, I waited over 5 minutes to buy a bottle of water while the barista chatted with the woman in front of me, made her bagel, made her tea, and then chatted some more. Luckily I was running early - other times I've had to leave the line because the train was coming. I don't understand why they don't automatically staff 2 people during the morning rush. The food looks good, but I've watched them unpack it and know that most of it is premade and a lot of it is pre-frozen, which takes out a lot of the appeal. As for the packaged foods, it's a weird selection that varies frequently, but always interesting. read more

Great little coffee house for those who are shuttled down to their cave for hard labor in the mountains of the Chicagoland buildings. A happy greeting and a piping cup of motivation is all one can ask for, but they deliver theirs on a rush hour schedule ever mindful of the clock. read more

The Wild Roaster is a hidden gem. Tucked away in the Deerfield train station is a coffee drinkers paradise. The baked goods are fantastic also. The owner Kay is an integral part of the neighborhood and supports many local causes. I typically do not write reviews however The Wild Roaster is worth the time to share my experience. I just had the best cup of Pumpkin Spiced coffee ever accompanied by a freshly baked, you guessed it, Pumpkin muffin at The Wild Roaster! Located by the Deerfield Metra station is a great find. Although I live 20 miles away I would not hesitate coming here for a delicious cup of coffee. Only my second visit and the experience was just as good as the first time. Met Julie the baker. Very friendly and gave me several recommendations. At that time she was baking and servicing customers. This most resent trip I was greeted by Lauren. Very friendly and pleasant to talk with. My pumpkin spiced coffee was smooth and flavorful with no bitter aftertaste like many of the name brand coffee chains. This place is tucked away between the Metra station and Home Depot and well worth the short detour off Deerfield Road. As I was sitting outside at one of a few cafe tables under a tree a woman passed by and asked how I was enjoying my coffee. Low and behold it was a Kaye the owner. Best coffee shop in town!! Great tasting coffee that I enjoy every single morning while riding train to the city. By the time I get to work, I'm always fully awake and energized thanks to chaube amazing latte. The lady upfront is extremely nice and kind, always has an amazing attitude and extremely positive and motivated my make everyone's morning better. This place has by far the most delicious fresh roasted coffee!!! I admit being deceived because it's located in the Lake Cook Rd., (Northbrook) train station, but was pleasantly surprised was a hidden gem this place is. They have a generous selection of quality fresh baked goods, delicious coffee, and high quality loose tea. I was also told they offer simple cooked to order breakfast. I had a taste of of their green fig tea (with real fig) and it was amazing, worth driving back here for. The customer service is above and beyond with warmth and genuine care. I didn't think I would give this place another try but I was super hungry the other morning and I missed my train and the next one wasn't coming for another 20 minutes. I walked in thinking I would be in and out but I after I ordered my muffin, I found out I LOST MY CARD. I just cleaned my wallet out the night before and got rid of all my credit cards, cash, change, and I must have forgotten to put my debit card back in. Mortified, I tried to cancel my order but the woman at the counter, Kaye (I think she's the owner as well), handed me the muffin and offered to let me pay the next day. I tried to say no, but she insisted so I accepted and let her know I'd be back the next morning. She even tried to offer a coffee to me, and I let her know it was okay but she responded with that should would give it to me on the house. I still declined because I don't drink coffee but was really sweet, because I think she thought I didn't have enough money to bring back. It really warmed my heart to know that there are still people who look out for other people. I did go back this morning to pay her back btw. I will be back for sure because I like supporting businesses run by genuinely good people. read more

Bit of a weird experience with buying coffee. Came in for the whiskey barrel coffee. The staff did not know where it was so manager told them to smell the beans. Hope I got the right one. Asked the price and was told 16/17 a pound but then checked out and it was like $25 with tax. Coffee was great though so mixed emotions here. read more

My first time here, but I will be back. Why? I had an amazing bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant. The server was very polite and was easy to understand and quickly made my sandwich before I went on the train. I work close by and many times I want a different atmosphere than my desk for study /reading. This will be a venue for me to try! The croissant was just flaky enough without seeming dry since it was also soft. I may add that I've been to Paris, France and the croissant softness and flakiness is hard to find done correctly in the U.S. This place and Au Bon Pain are closest I've found so far in the U.S. I liked the change-up of the hard boiled egg that was sliced onto the sandwich, which allows them to be so speedy. This is the new unknown spot to be! And I will mention them to my coworkers who also take the train. read more

This unassuming coffee shop has wonderful coffee and pastries. I love the chocolate dipped biscotti and the chocolate chip scones. The owner is super friendly and will gladly work with you on custom orders. There is seating both inside and outside. Tge location is a bit tough to find on your first visit. (It shares a parking lot with Home Depot.) Do yourself a favor and give thus cute spot a try! read more

However, we ordered two identical lattes at the same time and, while one of them was decent, the other had no discernible coffee flavor to speak of. I've only been here a couple of times but each time I've had a positive experience with the staff present. The coffee is very good, roasted in house, and the selection of snacks/small bites is appealing. Today, I was surprised to see they had samosas. I told this guy 2 years ago that he could make a killing if he started selling 24 oz cans of beer to go for people to take on the metra. I explained to him what the demand was like during rush hour at union station and that grabbing even a fraction of that would net him so many more sales a day. He would literally have the market cornered, there is nowhere else to buy beer to go near Lake Cook Metra. Especially Thursday/Friday evening commutes he's missing out on an easy $500. Please make the commute from Lake Cook more enjoyable and please make the money you're missing out on, get a liquor license and sell beer/little things of wine to go! read more

This is an amazing coffee shop in an otherwise boring place. The coffee is delicious, there are a million different kinds of teas. My current favorite is the Roasted Almond Tea. To die for. And, they carry heavy cream for the coffee, not just Half and Half crap. So if you like real cream or are a low carb high fat eater, this is the place for you.
