Now, this pub was really cool. It is basically one of those inner-city pubs that I absolutely adore. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I can actually fault this place, especially the little secrets that you discover if you just happen to look around the place. They have some great beers on tap and an awesome beer garden, and you certainly can't beat the welcome that I received from the bartender when I ordered my beer. This place was great. read more

Disclaimer: I've only been here twice. And only for the Pub Quiz on Thursday nights. That being said, they were 2 of my favorite and most memorable nights out in Brisbane with my work team. The bar has a couple different sections, some Pokies inside too, but the pub quiz is outside on the beer-garden style patio. It's huge, lots of room to spread out. Picnic-style tables for good chatter and space for your food & bev while you enjoy the lovely weather (even in winter, it's not too cold in Brisbane). The Quiz Master is the best I've ever had. I love a good quiz, and this adorable guy (from Essex, adding a touch of ol' Blighty to the mix) is hilarious, fun, engaging and completely entertaining. The quiz itself is well-constructed and lasts a couple hours. The questions are a mix of challenging and easy, but of course the hardest ones for me are sports, Aussie politics and (the worst) Aussie sports. Thank goodness I have some proper Aussie mates on my team to fill those roles. Super fun night - highly recommended if you like silly jokes, lively competition and good music. On the food & drinks side of things at the Wickham, there's a great menu, complete with veggie/vegan options if that's your jam. The service is quick and efficient. Full bar. Smoking section round the back of the patio. 5 stars all-round. I'll be back! read more

God, I do love a beer garden, like I really love drinking outside. I've driven past the Wickham a million times and never realised that it's a beautiful, great pub before. We went there for because it was easy and close to my friends' hotel. I assumed there was a beer garden because of the style of venue from the outside and boy was I right. The beer garden is a great size and is filled with different size tables. I like that. They have giant jenga and board games and for me demonstrates that the venue wants people to stick around and feel relaxed. I grabbed a Young Henry's cider, and easy and wonderful go to drink and we took a seat in the smoking area. I was informed they have live music on a Sunday which is a great draw card for me. A friend of mine walked past with a pitcher of some kind of passion fruit jungle juice which I am dying to try. I had dinner plans so we only stayed for one drink but I felt so comfortable I could have stayed for hours. Next time, I'm sure I will. read more

Wow, not much good to say about the Wickham Hotel parmigiana. The parmi was as gay as the patrons that were attending the venue. Overcooked and hardly any cheese in site, it was terrible. Not sure how you manage to ruin chips but an hour later and I'm still guzzling water to get the taste of the overload of salt out of my mouth. The 45 minute wait was not helped by the distinct lack of air con and the incessant noise from the music which made talking to my dinner partners hard and to be frank, quite unpleasant. read more

Menu and or chef change? No garlic bread? Been here three times for parmies after seeing them votes 5th best in Brisbane. On my third time today after 45mins waiting the smallest dry schnitzels with half a slice of cheese were presented accompanied by chips that it was clear the lid has fallen off the salt shaker as they tasted like I'd just been dumped by a wave in the Dead Sea. Oh, my beloved Wickham. If you're easy to please and are up for a good time, you'll love the Wickham. If you want a more high class night life experience, you might not fall for the Wickham's understated charms. It's my favourite place to roll into towards the end of a messy night. The Wickham never fails to get me dancing to Kylie, flashing my boosies on the stage, doing high kicks and convincing others to get into some dodgy choreographed dance moves. The amount of times I've been cornered into a cubicle by an overzealous booze hound isn't even funny anymore. Despite this, it's still my favourite place to finish up my night. What is of significance to know is that the Wickham is a gay pub. The first time I stumbled upon the Wickham, I was unaware of this fact. The Wickham is always a great nest for meeting solid good folks. None of this, 'my friends and your friends are going to sit at the same table but we're not going to exchange glances' sort of business. You'll make the best of friends in a few seconds flat, especially if you're sucking down the rumbos, rolling your own ciggies, and swearing like a trooper. It's that kind of pub. The rough and ready sort that just always seems to have Kylie and Gaga blaring from the speakers. read more

Not only can you dance all night long but you can also get a meal till 12am every Friday and Saturday night, my kinda venue! Plenty of beers on tap! I have herd from my a couple of gay friends that this bar is the only bar in Brisbane that proudly display the rainbow flag (a sign of gay pride) out the front, props to them I say! You obviously do not have to be gay to hang out here, I find this place to be very accepting and have had a few fun nights here. Last time I went to the Wickham was on a Friday night and let me tell you, this place goes wild on a Friday night! We danced without a care in the world of what people would think to all the latest pop tunes. The outdoors area seems to be the social hub of the bar, this is where you can have nonsensical conversations with strangers, share jugs and sing along to Rihanna (something I would never do sober, that's for sure). What I like about the Wickham is that it is so real and to trying to be something it's not, it is just a fun place to hang out, dance, sing and have fun conversations. Next time you are looking for a fun bar to go to in the Valley, look out for the bar with the rainbow flag out the front on Wickham Terrace. read more

This is my very first bar in Brisbane after moving here from NYC. I wanted a fun spot for my partner and I to go to and have a good time and be around our type of crowd. We got there pretty early around 5pm happy hour time. At first impression we were a bit put off as the place looked old and as if it was falling apart. Since it was daylight, the inside didn't look too promising as well. The only seating area was outside and it was filling up quickly. The staff was very friendly and even offered to charge my phone in their outlet in the back bar. We ordered drinks and by the time we got outside, there was only a bench on the rear that was open and we had to sit there. It wasn't long until a table became empty and we moved fast to get to it. It was a nice ambiance and within an hour it was a lovely evening glow, the music was up and people were chatting and there was standing room only. The price tag wasn't too bad for the drinks we had. We stuck to vodka and red bull for most of the night. My partner and I had a really great time just talking and drinking and swaying to the music. We were there for 5 hours and decided to call it a night at 10 and left to catch our bus home. I would love it if they got more of a "lounge" feel to the place. Make space for lower seating and tables so that one could relax in comfort. The chairs and tables they had were all high and it was not comfy at all. read more

Wow i was blown away with the poor effort these people put in to helping me have an enjoyable few hours spending money at their venue. Pokies had buttons not operating Pokies out of order They offered free coffee but had no cups for the machine available No one at the bar in the pokies room Hand sanitisers empty or not working To go in to the public bar i had to walk out and back in to the bar where i had to undergo scrutiny testing by having my license scanned and photo taken Then i paid over $10 for a gin and tonic when the bottle cost $25 Then i couldn't take it back through to the pokie room. Then going back to get a second drink because the pokie bar was inmanned they wanted to scan my license and photograph me again! They only had two patrons inside so i don't know what trouble i could cause sober. I left forever never to return as it was all just too hard. What a joke unless this place was a criminal haven i don't know what management think of their patrons. read more

Got kicked out of a private function for asking if there was another way to get my friend in later (she was deemed too drunk and told she was banned for the night at 8pm). I never experience this at other bars, let alone a private paid function. Don't expect to be treated as a customer, friends were frisked, others banned for talking to the girl who had been kicked. Terrible service, many better options nearby. read more
