It was right across the street. 5 people were in line despite a chilly night. A Good sign. The menu was promising as well as the people running the show. A friendly welcoming atmosphere was the start of the Soul! The wait was 8 minutes with, like I said, a crowd in front of us. Friendly chatter ensued. The pork chop was coming out of the frier and I mentioned how amazing it looked. Tony threw in a 'too small to sell' freebee pork chop. 2 words... IT SLAAAAPED! Left no crumbs. Got some honey bbq wings. Mac and cheese. Green beans. Fried okra. All very delish! I only hope I take a trip back up to Soul Food Island. Thank you Tony and Tammy.

I usually see them at the old Kmart location. Their desserts are very rich. The chocolate has a very strong taste, so make sure you have a sweet tooth if you're stopping in here. Or a peddler setup where they come to the table and cut the meat for you. Just about anything has to be better than the ordering system now. The restaurant is too beautiful and has too much potential to give people a fast food experience. Doesn't matter how good the food is, if the experience and atmosphere doesn't match then people will not come back.

Great folks. Ordering = 1/5 I sure hope they figure this out. At one point I looked around and there were 15-20 people seated and 40-50 people standing in line. I personally counted 25+ people who got in line and left. We stood in line for 40 minutes before we got to the front to order. There's got to be a better, more efficient flow. My ideas: 1) Taking/firing orders from the hostess stand and having the prep team start the work. You could still see them chop the order and stand in line, but there wouldn't be so much talking and chatting and hemming and hawing while at the board ordering meat. 2) Use some of the wasted space over by the bar and expand the meat/chopping station so it isn't one person doing the meat/chopping. 3) Imitate JD's down the road and place an order in line, then go sit down and have them bring it to you. But anything has got to be better than a 45+ minute wait standing in line. Summer heat is bad enough, but I can't imagine how bad that wait will be in the line outside in winter or rain. Again, I sure hope they figure it out. Morganton needs a great place with great folks like this. The ownership that put so much love and attention into this place deserves it too. Fingers crossed!

They sell huaraches which I did not get but you never see at a taqueria, and they looked amazing. A the guy warned me about their hot sauce, which is an oil and ground chili sauce. Apparently people have complained it was too hot, but i managed to convince him to give me 2. If you like spicy food, make sure you get 2 of the sauce cups!! He said i wouldn't use even one of the cups on the whole thing but ended up using both with burrito to spare, but it was the perfect amount. AMAZING SAUCE. The two employees in the truck greeted us and informed us of their business and available products. They offered canned wines, wine slushies, and wine slushy to-go mix. We tasted each of the 4 canned wines and the slushy. I personally liked the blackberry wine best. The slushy was refreshing and sweet, perfect for a NC summer day. The employees were friendly and patient. They answered all of our questions and are clearly passionate about their business. We chose to purchase the refillable slushy cup with $5 refills at any of the events they attend. Later in the day we returned to purchase to-go slushy mix to make in the future. All you do is put it in the freezer! Overall, we had a great experience here and recommend these wines to others!
