This place qualifies as officially "out of the way", perched on the edge of the moor overlooking Littlborough, Rochdale and (on a clear day) Manchester, the White House pub is located amongst archetypal Pennine landscape. If you are looking for a a moorland walk, you could do far worse than to base yourself here, next to the dramatic Blackstone edge and surrounded by great reservoir walks..
There is a wide range of well kept beer (lager & Ales), and the food is pretty damn fine. We cycled up here from several miles away and had worked up quite an appetite by the time we hit the pub, so it was steaks all round. The steaks (I went for the T-Bone, whilst my mates went for the Ribeye and Sirloin) were superb, few places this far into the wilds have a real concept of what rare really means!), and the sauces were delicious, my mate was practically drooling his way through his ribeye with melted Stilton. And the sirloin with Kalahari chilli sauce seemed to be going down a treat. The chips were lovely, but the whole thing was slightly let down by some overcooked veggies plonked on the side. Oh well what can you expect £11! Yes just eleven quid for a perfectly cooked 16 oz T-bone in a lovely garlic & herb butter... Lucky for me it was all downhill home as I don't think I would have been able to do a great deal of pedalling after such a filling meal!
NOTE: The Map seems to be slightly off on this one, it's actually further NE along the SW side of the reservoir before the turnoff for Blackstone Edge Road... read more
