Newly refurbished and now serves great food and beer. It's a asset to the town centre and well worth a visit.

My friends and I came here after a long walk on an unexpectedly warm Saturday in March, looking for somewhere to enjoy a couple of well-earned pints and some hearty pub grub. We got a table by the bay window that was bathed in sunlight and gave us a good view of the bar, supping our first drink whilst perusing the menus. You can expect quite the selection of firm pub food favourites such as Cumberland sausage, scampi and crispy battered haddock - but there are also plenty of lighter and vegetarian options; children's meals are just half-portions of the adults'. The memorable moment for us was when we ordered pints of Sign of Spring by Stonehenge Ales in Wiltshire - they're as green as Fairy Liquid but tasted smooth and were really drinkable. If they have it on tap, give it a try. A lovely atmosphere, warm and helpful staff and good quality food all round.

Comfortable mix of traditional and contemporary pub fixtures and fittings leaves you with the impression that the pup has evolved naturally rather than having hatched from the marketing plan of a junior brewery exec. Beers on offer were good local and small brewery fare and lagers were standard pub offerings. Both had a pint of Tongham's finest Hog's Back Bitter and it was served in a branded glass, at the perfect temperature, clear as a whistle and not a hint of sourness. Lovely. My father and I ate from the specials board and whilst a little pricey (£9.80) for liver, bacon and mash, the liver was cooked perfectly and the mash was smooth, creamy and well seasoned. Highly recommended for a relaxing summer's evening.
