This is the email I sent to them:…read more I ate lunch at your pub for the first time today with my mother and partner, and we were all incredibly disappointed with our meals - especially considering the extortionate prices which lead you to anticipate a high quality. Firstly, our meals were served at different times, the man that brought out two meals disappeared saying 'I'll be back in a second with the extra vegetables' - of which there were none - and did not return with the third meal so we were forced to ask some other server to find out where it was. It was at least 10 minutes after receiving the first two meals before my partner got hers, by which time myself and my mother had already finished eating. The chicken of the roulade was so dry it was difficult to cut or chew (and came with no other food but a coulis, despite costing £14), The mince in the lasagne was so overcooked as to be an unpleasant mulch, The lasagne itself was curious, as it seemed to have no lasagne or bechamel sauce but a disproportionately large amount of cheese. Also, the fries were all undercooked. I feel we need to question the roast beef being called locally sourced sirloin. It was thin, dry and overcooked, and as a meal, strangely came with no vegetables but two types of potato (roast and mash?). To sum up, there was not enough food for the cost, and the quality of the food that was there was atrocious, to the point that we felt we would have received a better meal at a cheap pub chain for half the price we paid, and all three of us left your venue hungry after a £50 meal. I just thought you should know that with a location such as the one you have, you should improve your food and service, or lower your prices.

My friends and I came here after a long walk on an unexpectedly warm Saturday in March, looking for somewhere to enjoy a couple of well-earned pints and some hearty pub grub. We got a table by the bay window that was bathed in sunlight and gave us a good view of the bar, supping our first drink whilst perusing the menus. You can expect quite the selection of firm pub food favourites such as Cumberland sausage, scampi and crispy battered haddock - but there are also plenty of lighter and vegetarian options; children's meals are just half-portions of the adults'. The memorable moment for us was when we ordered pints of Sign of Spring by Stonehenge Ales in Wiltshire - they're as green as Fairy Liquid but tasted smooth and were really drinkable. If they have it on tap, give it a try. A lovely atmosphere, warm and helpful staff and good quality food all round.

Comfortable mix of traditional and contemporary pub fixtures and fittings leaves you with the impression that the pup has evolved naturally rather than having hatched from the marketing plan of a junior brewery exec. Beers on offer were good local and small brewery fare and lagers were standard pub offerings. Both had a pint of Tongham's finest Hog's Back Bitter and it was served in a branded glass, at the perfect temperature, clear as a whistle and not a hint of sourness. Lovely. My father and I ate from the specials board and whilst a little pricey (£9.80) for liver, bacon and mash, the liver was cooked perfectly and the mash was smooth, creamy and well seasoned. Highly recommended for a relaxing summer's evening.

Quick glance: + fresh, local ingredients…read more+ big portion of tasty food + friendly, caring staff + local ales from Hog's Back Brewery down the road - disappointing dessert - booking recommended We visited the Duke of Cambridge prior to watching a show at the West End Centre in Aldershot on a Saturday evening. We arrived about 6 in the evening and although the venue was only half filled, all the tables were already reserved. Luckily for us (and the restaurant too!) we needed to get out by 7pm and it so happened that there was a table free until then. It was good of the head waiter to check if we were happy to vacate by 7, as it meant we got to eat there (and they turned over an extra table.) Because of the short time we had, the food came quickly. It was good to see there was good communication between the front of staff and the kitchen to make this possible. The food was simply a delight. For starter I had the beet-root infused smoked salmon salad. It was an unusual way to smoke the salmon but the flavours were beautiful. For mains, I had their special of the day - whole plaice. While presentation was nothing special, the fish was cooked to perfection with the meat just cooked, full of flavours and juices. That alone stole my heart for the evening. The food was on the heavy side, with lots of cream in the leeks, for example, which could put some people off, but it is great for those looking for a bit of extravagance. The portion size is also generous. The letdown came after the wonderful starter and main course, as my dessert was plain and lacking in flavours. The New York cheesecake was too sweet and lacked the 'cheesy' flavour. Shame, but it shouldn't hold you back from visiting this wonderful pub served by really friendly staff, and eat your heart out along with local ales from Hog's Back Brewery down the road, or a selection of wines.

It's particularly popular with families, judging by the number of mid-size luxury SUVs in the car park - the pub certainly appears to be in the executive commuter belt. Finding an available parking space was therefore quite tricky; if there aren't any just park on the nearby approach road to Hankley Common Golf Club. They've a small bar inside which leads into a larger rustic dining room that's been tastefully refurbished. There are four real ales available, with one being locally brewed. Andwell's Red Mist was a pretty decent pint. Outside, there's a sizeable covered dining area, patio and garden, with a children's play area by the car park a decent distance away so the noise and disruption is limited. The seasonal menu is full of British classics, with the mains including beer-battered cod, chargrilled rib-eye steak and pan-roasted Gressingham duck breast. Portions were generous (see the photo of the amount of peas that came with my cod!) and everything was tasty. Summing this place up I'd say its look was in keeping with the above-average affluence of the area, but at its heart was still an old, warm and welcoming rural pub.
