The Mill used to be my pub of choice when I first moved into the area. Then Fullers took over and it all went downhill rapidly. It could and should be a top notch choice for either a nice evening drink or a meal but the Fullers management have turned this into a local laughing stock. The pub used to be owned by a local resident who understood the importance of customer service which reflected in the staff's helpful and courteous approach, the food was of a high standard and was always a pleasure to go there. Nowadays you will be lucky to even be acknowledged when you first walk in. If you want to eat you will be asked if you have booked in a tone that implies they are doing you a favour even letting you walk through the door. The menu contains a few promising dishes but when they eventually arrive they are typically over or under cooked, tasteless or microwaved slops. My last visit with friends was a complete farce with starters and main courses arriving at the same time. Like another pint or Glass of wine midway through your meal? Well you will now be instructed to go and queue up at the Bar as its Fullers policy apparently. If its at all busy the bar will have 2 or 3 rows of annoyed, thirsty customers doing the same and looking forward to returning to their now stone cold food when they have eventually got served. Aside from the bad attitudes of the majority of the staff, the most shocking thing is the jaw dropping complacency of the Management. On my last visit I eventually managed to speak with the Manager who dealt with my politely presented issues with complete disinterest. The Fullers area manager at least offered to look into things and call me within 2 weeks, of course that never happened. This is a classic example of a cynical Brewery relying on a good location to maximise profits from cheap ingredients, rip off prices, minimal staffing and absolutely no investment in training. Do yourself a favour and avoid the Mill at all costs and hopefully Fullers will get the message. read more
