There is A LOT of stuff here--apparel, hats, personalized name items, toys, decor, international flags, jewelry, pet lover items, shells, souvenir magnets, keychains, & more! It's fairly organized, & when I was there, an employee was tidying up & dusting (though he didn't acknowledge any customers). The aisles are narrow & it can easily get cramped with all the customers browsing. The store extends far to the back. Note: Apparel & toys for kids is towards the back on the left side. I'm disappointed whenever I give a below three-star review but the business practices here are shady to say the least. My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for a souvenir penny machine and liked the designs on the one in the back of this store. We saw that there appeared to be multiple pennies scattered within the machine already, so we were skeptical of using it, but ultimately decided to give it a shot anyways. As soon as I pushed in the coin feeder, I see the penny fall into the abyss with the other lost pennies of customers who had been cheated. We approached the cashier to inform them that our coins got eaten. As soon as we mentioned the penny machine, the guy working asked if it had eaten our coins. Yes it did. I'm sorry I can't help you with that. Has it eaten customer coins before? Yes, it happens. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do for you. So they're aware that this machine is malfunctioning and choose to do nothing about it. I would not recommend trying the penny press here. read more

My wife wanted to buy a particular kind of fleece jacket from Monterey for her 91 year old mother but didn't want to make the drive down at this time. I called and spoke to the manager there who followed up with pictures, prices and shipping costs to send it to us. I have dealt with all kinds of business owners and managers over the years but none have gone way beyond to help like this one did. I believe his name is Kalifa. Professional, helpful, polite and timely. I was told the product has been shipped. If I don't get it, I will remove this post and drive down there to meet with him personally, if you know what I mean....but based on everything he's done and shown me, this was an excellent experience and I recommend you stop in there when visiting Monterey. read more

It's possible to find some good gifts at great prices here. They have infant jackets with Monterey Bay on them. The toys are the same price as you find at the mall, so expect to spend around $20 for a stuffed animal. For adults, just a lot of the same souvenir-type of merchandise. But prices aren't jacked up. I saw a teal cloche for $29. You have to spend more than $10 to use your card, which is why it's only 3 stars. Now I know why there are a couple of ATM machines on the wharf. You can find something for a distant relative that they'll appreciate and the prices are reasonable. read more

My wife and I came upon this store 06/29/17 when her mobility scooter ran out of power. I asked if it they had an electrical outlet we could use, and that I would pay for the charge. Alan, who I am assuming is the manager or owner was a great help. He insisted that he would not take any money and that we could use it as much as was necessary to get on our way. This shop was just OK for me. It was awesome, but it wasn't bad either. It sort of fell in the middle. My boyfriend and I perused the store looking for a magnet to put on our fridge. Nothing really caught our eye despite the huge selection. Selection in general is pretty big and the store is a nice size as well. The staff seemed friendly through we didn't really interact with them. It is worth checking out if you are in the area. read more

It takes alot for me to write a review. We're from out of town and visited Fisherman's Wharf. My family and I shopped at this store, my husband paid and forgot his wallet on the counter. We left, we're at a shop next to the general store when he realized he forgot his wallet. NO MORE than 20 minutes passed that he had left his wallet on the counter. We go back to the General Store, where we were told that the wallet was already turned into the Monterey Police Dept. And that's their policy with this situation. Ok. So while still at the shop we call Monterey PD and they tell us that they're policy is to put wallets in their evidence locker and can't be accessed til Monday. Wait. What? We're from out of town and just here till Sunday! Highly inconvenient! The manager at the shop tells us that people leave things at their shop for a week without claiming them. She NEVER apologized. Ok, but we weren't gone longer than 20 minutes. Moral of the story, NEVER forget your wallet at this store on a weekend because you'll have to come back on Monday, miss work, spend time and gas money to come claim your property at the PD. read more

A few coworkers and I went into The Wharf's general store to buy a few souvenirs for our loved ones back home while on a work trip. From the beginning the service was terrible, we weren't greeted when we walked in and we were followed and watched all the way to the back of the store by one of the associates. We asked for a few prices and the associate acted as if it was more of a burden to find out rather than his job. The prices were competitive with the other gift shops, but I would rather sacrifice a few extra dollars elsewhere to have decent customer service. read more

Cute little tourist shop. Nothing really spectacular about it. I got a postcard of a cute otter holding onto a kelp for 25 cents. The store was well lit and clean. The salesperson behind the counter was really nice to the tourists. I saw her interact with European tourists who could barely speak English and were short a couple of pennies for their purchase, she just told them it was "OK". I wished she had done the same for me! read more

I will give this place 3 stars based on their Jewelry section. My mom loves little trinkets and this place has a lot of them. They are pretty helpful with you as well. Business is pretty tough on the pier with everybody selling a lot of the same items and so close together, so the littlest things must set them apart from everybody else. That's my thoughts at least. I had purchased jackets for 5 of my grandchildren while vacationing in CA. They were all the same and I purchased them at Fisherman's Wharf. When I got home and gave them to my grandchildren one of them was too small and my grandson was so disappointed. I phoned The Wharf's General Store to ask if they had a larger size. The salesgirl was so helpful!!! She not only located the correct size but sent a picture to me on my phone to be sure it was the right one and then shipped it to me. Thanks to this wonderful and helpful salesgirl I now have a happy grandson! read more
