My mother-in-law was there for about 10 years after having heart surgery which left her with disabilities that left her unable to live on her own - this was at the age of 80. She was there for about 10 years, during which time she was quite content with the care and the food provided. When her medical situation worsened, she went from independent, to assisted living care. Until her passing, we were glad that she was in a 'community' where care was increased as needed. Presently, my husband, who suffered a stroke, is in the same place, and again, I am glad that he is in a place where he is well cared for, and the staff are very attentive to his needs.

The lobby boasts a grand piano, large areas with comfortable chairs and couches for reading and a computer area for internet access. The dining room is just off to the side and the residents tell me that the cooking is fantastic. Descend the grand staircase to the lower level, or use the elevator and you will find a health centre, where there are doctors offices, a vast recreation room for organized activities or games at your leisure, the chapel, the library (with a large collection of books for your literary pleasure), a fitness room and a salon. There is also a cafe and bar, for snacks or drinks between meals and a theatre for afternoon movies. With all the amenities, you will never have to leave (or want to)! I have had the pleasure to use space in the manor to hold occasional classes and recitals for my young piano students, much to the delight of those who live here on a full-time basis. The staff have always been very welcoming and helpful. I can see that they truly love their jobs. Living spaces are apartment-style, offering independence and comfort, in the security of the manor. Several different plans are available. Check it out--the staff here always make you feel welcome!

In spite of having very little time to find and move into a new place, Sherri took immediate control of the situation, reaching out to homes in the Ottawa area with my Dad's case file and looking for a good fit. She found us one in two days! Tea & Toast is like finding a guide to show you the way through a deep and dark forest of dozens of possible homes, multiple options, prices, and care needs. Honestly, I have no idea what we would have done without them. Full marks to the Tea & Toast team!

They care more about the people than the bottom line. Trying to find the right home for my mom was such a stressful experience. As soon as I met Adriana and the staff at Thorncliffe Place it felt right. MOREOVER, IT WAS VERY AFFORDABLE. Plus, all of the seniors I have spoken to that live there, love it! Mom has since developed a more serious form of Alzheimers and I have never seen such compassion, GREAT NURSING DECISION MAKING and SUPERLATIVE care. They offer all the care she needs there until end of life, so no more moving. My dad and father-in-law were both at different residences and also both had Alzheimers, so I have had experience with the quality of other facilities. The people and the place felt cold and many uncaring. At Thorncliff Place, residents are treated with compassion and kindness. It is the best residence if you like a small family-type atmosphere.

I have never been to the Riverside Hospital before, but it looks like I will be frequenting this hospital indefinitely. It is a quaint hospital, that offers several services and clinics on site, with specialized doctors like internal medicine, physiotherapists, ect. They have a blood lab on site as well as x-ray and ultrasound lab on site. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. All services were quick and top notch. It was an easy to navigate hospital as well. I did find it a tad dark in the hospital, but I hate bright fluorescent lighting, so it was perfect for me! There is a drop off area at the main entrance, as well as a full functioning Tim Hortons on site with tons of seating.

The Revera Stittsville Villa and Manor is a retirement residence that provides independent living…read moreand supportive living. Not assisted living or long-term care. I will explain these terms further. I did not realize that there were different levels of care in different retirement residences until I had a loved one move into one of them, but of course it makes once you think about it...but I guess I never really thought about it. The Manor side of the residence is completely independent living. Residents come and go as they please and fend for themselves. It's like living in a regular apartment but with other elderly people as your neighbours, and with the option of going over to the Villa side and having all your meals in the dining room for an additional fee (i.e. you don't have to cook at all if you don't want to). The Villa offers supportive living. Villa residents have a personal alarm they can wear around their necks and if they need help they can press it and staff will come. There is also an emergency pull cord in the bathrooms for the same purpose. Villa residents are automatically registered for the meal plan and if they don't come down for their meals, staff go and check up on them. Villa residents and any visitors to the Villa also have to sign in and out at the front desk. Villa residents can get additional supports (for an additional fee) such as laundry services, help bathing/showering, medication administration, etc. However, residents must more or less be able to perform their own activities of daily living. If someone cannot get out of bed themselves, go to the bathroom themselves, or are otherwise dependant on others for basic needs then they require assisted living or long-term care, which is beyond the capabilities of this retirement residence. The Manor and the Villa are in separate buildings but they are connected by a door that requires an access code. The Villa has nursing staff 24/7 and has a generator in the event of a power outage. The Manor does not. There are a lot of activities offered such as Bingo, exercise classes, music concerts, arts and crafts, excursions via the Revera bus to local stores, etc. and they are open to residents from both sides. The common areas are decorated with the seasons/holidays. Pumpkins around fall/Halloween, hearts around Valentine's Day, etc. Residents can buy meal tickets for visitors to eat in the dining room with them. Residents can also rent out rooms to hold family parties/get-togethers. Staff are very friendly and professional. The residents seem to be treated well and seen to be happy there. They have 2 small parking lots for residents and visitors.
