Posted activities were cancelled at the last minute. I did not realize life could change when a new organization comes in to manage We cannot forget this is a "for profit" operation. New residents think the place is marvellous. I remain here because what is left is OK. I have learned that things do not remain the same. I have friends here, and I enjoy group living.

Staff turnover is very high, particularly in the kitchen. Social activities are being cut back and no longer enjoyable. Morale amongst residents and staff is low as everyone complains. There are rumours that the business is for sale. We have asked her to move but at her age she is overwhelmed by the prospect as she doesn't wish to leave friends nor deal with major change. We live far away and have not seen conditions first hand. Grateful for any information from other people's experience. This is supposed to be superior senior living. Is it?

Also the staff are very kind and caring and look out for the residents' needs (e.g. special diets that require pre-ordering a special meal). However, it barely gets one star for the quality of the food. Just prior to the start of the Covid pandemic, I would have rated the food at 5 stars but now it barely rates one star. Even during the pandemic the kitchen did an outstanding job while residents were confined to their rooms. However, since 2021 things have gone downhill. The food is not well cooked - usually overdone, hard to chew, burnt. Tasteless frozen vegetables, even when these vegetables are available fresh in season. There is too much fast food with too much batter. The food often looks unappetizing. I think part of the problem is a shortage of experienced cooks and servers. The servers often cannot even identify the dishes they are serving to the residents - this is both because the food looks unappetizing and unidenfiable and also because not enough training has been given to the servers. The residents have brought these issues up to management at the monthly meetings but nothing seems to change, hence this post. If you cannot find the kitchen staff, pehaps it is time to bring in caterers on a weekly or twice weekly basis.

In spite of having very little time to find and move into a new place, Sherri took immediate control of the situation, reaching out to homes in the Ottawa area with my Dad's case file and looking for a good fit. She found us one in two days! Tea & Toast is like finding a guide to show you the way through a deep and dark forest of dozens of possible homes, multiple options, prices, and care needs. This former Embassy West Hotel has turned into Embassy West Senior Living. It's at the same…read morelocation - right off of the 417 so it's really convenient and easy to find. My friend and I stayed at the Embassy West during Canada Day, which happened to be nearing its last days as a hotel. They were doing hardcore renovations and we were lucky enough to be given one of the newly renovated rooms. We were definitely impressed! The rooms had dark hardwood floors and cabinetry, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and sink, a walk-in closet, accessible bathroom, couch, TV with basic cable, visually-appealing art on the walls, and one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. To be honest, it's much nicer than many apartments in the city, and even though its updated and more contemporary, it's still cozy. I believe some of the staff is still there, and, of course, there is new medical staff to assist in senior care. They have always been very kind and accommodating, and the management is still the same, so I trust that the quality of service meets or exceeds individual, long-term care needs, just the way it met hotel standards.

The lobby boasts a grand piano, large areas with comfortable chairs and couches for reading and a computer area for internet access. The dining room is just off to the side and the residents tell me that the cooking is fantastic. Descend the grand staircase to the lower level, or use the elevator and you will find a health centre, where there are doctors offices, a vast recreation room for organized activities or games at your leisure, the chapel, the library (with a large collection of books for your literary pleasure), a fitness room and a salon. There is also a cafe and bar, for snacks or drinks between meals and a theatre for afternoon movies. With all the amenities, you will never have to leave (or want to)! I have had the pleasure to use space in the manor to hold occasional classes and recitals for my young piano students, much to the delight of those who live here on a full-time basis. The staff have always been very welcoming and helpful. I can see that they truly love their jobs. Living spaces are apartment-style, offering independence and comfort, in the security of the manor.
