They have such a variety of items compared to other antique stores- old beer cans, playboy magazines, clothing, jewelry, vinyl, etc. Some things are overpriced but some a very reasonable. Their staff is unbelievably rude. I was chased down the street and screamed at by one of their meth head employees who accused me of stealing because I left the shop without buying anything due to my very unpleasant experience with him. I was at western hardware about a week ago and it was so cool just browsing around. I looked around for about 2 to 3 hours at all the really cool stuff and saw some amazing things like a Civil War button, and a lot of cool animal taxidermy heads. I ended up getting a 1946 Nebraska license plate, a Flintstones mug, and a cool roadmap. Would definitely go back again to show people and get a few things. If you have an interest in the past, check out Western Hardware. It sits in a historic two-story hardware store stuffed with antiques. The discarded day-to-day utility items used by the old ranchers, miners, soldiers and townsfolk of Leadville bear witness to the mettle of the people who eked out an existence high up in these Colorado mountains. The past few years, the smarmy mountainistas have turned their nose up at Antiques and vintage Americana as passe. Coupled with the recession, antique & junk stores are increasingly difficult to find in the mountain states, most having gone out of business. Authentic ones are even more of a rarity, and this is glaringly apparent in Leadville. Harrison Avenue is dotted with tourist traps peddling fake vintage trinkets hurriedly crafted by the nimble fingers of slaves in third-world sweatshops marked as "antiques". While there are a few reproductions in Western Hardware, they are clearly marked and priced accordingly for what they are. If you are a collector, definitely give this place a go. While they seemingly don't sell furniture, if you are looking for a specific item I'd give them a ring and ask what they have. read more

In my experience, this is the best antique store in Leadville. Two stories jam-packed with vintage collectible items, furniture not being the primary emphasis. Every room is owned by a different vendor, and there are some real rarities lurking behind every corner. Overall, pricing is very fair and there were numerous sales going on when I was there, some of them as much as 50% off! Highly recommended! read more

Great stuff for guys and ladies. Horrible experience with unfriendly, almost hostile manager. Found a piece we liked, made an offer, and the sales person declined but said she could discount 10%. She took it to the front desk. The male manager would not honor the discount. He almost angrily said "I am the MANAGER. SHE is seasonal help. You can not have a discount on this." For perspective, we've been on a road trip across 7 states, 5000+ miles, and 100s of shops, and this is the worse experience we encountered. Vendors, this guy is losing your business. There may have been an upstairs, but we never heard it mentioned to any of the 15 other customers who were there. Obviously, we chose not to buy the item, which actullly hurt the stall owner, but can't support bad manners. read more

Man, I wish there were antique stores like this back home! This place has it all; vintage clothing, tea sets, postcards, old cans and bottles, books, fishing gear, pictures.... everything an antique store should have. The store itself retained all its old hardware store fixtures, though now all the drawers hold stereograph views instead of nuts and bolts. The place is immaculately dusted, which I appreciate. The prices are great, too, though some vendors inevitably overprice their wares. I got a 1950s swing coat in pristine condition for $20! Back in Florida, it would go for perhaps quadruple that. This place definitely does have an incredible selection. However, these are the most exorbitant prices I have ever seen in an antique store. For example, I regularly find antique copper kettles on craigslist ranging in price from $20-$50. They have the same style from the same era here and they want over $100 for them. One was as high as $300. Being very familiar with antiques I can promise you that $300 Copper kettle at this place was worth about half of that. read more

I've been to a lot of antique stores over the years, this one blows them all away! Amazing selection of just about anything and everything you could want from this type of store. Unfortunately, we got there about an hour before they were due to close up. I could have spent a lot more time, and a LOT more money there. Western Hardware and Antique Mall is always such a fun place to visit during Boom Days in Leadville. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. We never see all there is to see! This year I would really like to thank them for their help in returning a cane with a seat that my sister uses. She purchased a few things and walked away without her cane. The wonderful folks at Western Hardware packaged it better than when we got it from the manufacture. Then they sent it by priority mail! We called them and the very next day it was being delivered! The girls are very helpful but limited in what they can do. Very very expensive and has the usual antique store items.

This place was good. However the young girl with brown hair was extremely rude. As soon as we walked in she didn't even greet us. She just informed us when they would be closing. She seemed annoyed that we were even there. We had our children with us, we travel a lot and always visit local antique stores. Our children are really well behaved and know not to touch anything unless given permission. My husband was showing our son a tiny baseball bat and said you can't swing it! Next thing we know the young girl working the store yells at us "don't let your children touch anything"! My husband told her "it's fine I told him not to swing it if anything gets broken I will pay for it!" she continued arguing with him so we decided to leave immediately. It was embarrassing and sad being treated this way, because we pride ourselves on our children being well behaved! So don't go in here with children even if they are well behaved. What a wonderful business! I could spend hours in there poking around and wishing I had somewhere to wear jazzy, vintage costume jewelry. The staff was friendly and I never felt rushed or in the way. The candy on the counter was a hoot - just what I needed on my stroll down memory lane. I can't wait to go back.
