Title: "Al-Mart" should be "All Marked Up" If you're stopping for the name, the joke is on you--the store really should be called "All Marked Up." It is clear they simply buy retail from other grocery stores and flip the items here at a massive premium. Save yourself the "middleman" tax and just keep driving. The quality is a total gamble: my turkey sandwich was frozen solid in the middle, and the coffee was so watered down it was essentially transparent. The service from the owners is equally off-putting. The owner's wife follows customers through the aisles and physically removes items from your hands to take them to the register before you are even finished shopping. It is an incredibly invasive and uncomfortable way to treat a customer. To top it off, the owner, Corey, was highly unprofessional, loudly degrading someone about their personal problems in front of a store full of people. Both owners create a very hostile, awkward environment. You are much better off heading 15-20 minutes in either direction to City Market in Breckenridge or Prather's Market in Fairplay for a normal experience and fair prices. read more

Whenever I need a quality piece of clothing, hat, gloves or boots...I know exactly where to go. Al-Mart is awesome! Friendly local ownership, great selection, awesome organic local meats (in the freezer) but wonderful taste. Also, fun logo wear. This place is awesome! The guy working the counter came around once while I was wandering to see if I needed help finding anything, but didn't hover after that. Perfect! They have tons of stuff, from meat and cheese to clothing to camping goods. I bought fresh whole bean coffee and some strawberry habanero jam. I've lived in town for years and this place is the absolute worst. Prices are outrageous and worst of all the employees are *extremely* rude. It's so dark inside it feels like being inside a cave. FairPlay is 10 minutes away and Breck is 20 minutes away, go to either to save 50% and not deal with jerks. edit: owner replied to my comment on another website and was a condescending jerk. Located in a cool, historic building along Highway 9. They have everything from fishing hooks and winter boots to local meats and beverages. 3 weeks ago I would have give it 5 stars. Have been here several times and purchased multiple sweatshirts, footwear, Sox, hats...One pair of slippers we purchased had a flaw in them, I called to request a return, the owner said to bring them in. We live 50 miles away and gas isn't cheap. We were hoping for an exchange for same product. When we arrived owner said he couldn't take them back because they had been worn and he couldn't resell them. Why would you resell a damaged pair of slippers worn or not? We only had them a little over a month. He told us to contact the maker since it would take him 4 months to recoup his money. He would rather we deal with the inconvienence of the return. Sadly this has soured our experience with this store. We have always enjoyed supporting the locally owned stores but I guess there are benefits to shopping the big box stores after all. read more

Cool little locally owned general store located in the small mountain town of Alma, Colorado. They have a large variety of items. Everything from groceries, fishing supplies, snack items to clothing and souvenirs. It's nice to have a local place to pick up random stuff you need. One of the best all-in-one shops ever. Large selection of ice cream flavors and brand selection you'd actually want to eat, not just desperate bc of munchies. Nice selection of healthy frozen foods, meats, bbq items, candies...someone put effort into choosing what they sell. Prices are very reasonable too. In addition, they sell outdoor gear and clothing, and of course touristy gifts with character. They have a room full of Carhartt, and some other brands including Tentree. The sales people were all very helpful, knowledgeable, and seemed happy to be there! WOW! I haven't written a review in awhile, but if someone if going to run a business with their heart, it needs to be known. read more

For a teeny town like Alma, this place has got it goin' on! It really is a general store but for me the highlights were fancy dark chocolate and gourmet type snacks (not just Nabisco, Kraft, crap). The married couple that own this place are friendly and helpful. Alma seems an interesting place and Al-Mart adds to its charm. read more

This was a super cool but funky store we stopped by when driving thru town. It has everything you can think of and then some more. Heck it had groceries, local beef products, carthartt clothing, shoes, free coffee and more. I honestly can't think of one other thing that store needs to add to make it more complete. It kind of reminds me of back in the old days when there were tack and feed stores everywhere that carried you ever need. The only difference is this place didn't sell lawn mowers or have raw beef hanging down from the rafters. Just a cool place to check out while shaking off the sore muscles from driving. read more

If you are in summit/park county and find yourself passing through Alma, do yourself a favor and stop by Al-Mart. They have a jaw dropping assortment of groceries and other necessities. They carry, hands down, the best meats you will find. I stopped by after off-roading up Mount abroad for a light snack and ended up buying a bunch of groceries. The local Colorado grown lunch meat they have is to die for. This stuff puts the best grocery cold cuts to shame. The staff was very friendly and helpful (pointed out that some loafs of the bread are half off and saved me a few bucks!). Al-Mart has a ton of stuff- even organic and vegetarian items. I was able to find my favorite pancake mix that I can no longer find at Whole Foods. They even have Dr. Bronner soap. Al-Mart is a great place to grab a quick snack, or pick up quality groceries for dinner without having to go to City Market or Prathers. They have a great Selection, they have almost anything you are looking for, and if they don't have it they will always try to order it for you if you live here. Friendly owners and employees, interesting and easy to talk to! Local Meat, Organic and GF products, Carhartt clothing, Columbia/Sorel boots and shoes, quick sandwiches for breakfast you can microwave up front while you mix up your $1 coffee (organic AND locally roasted).
