I put off getting a dress altered for my daughter because I didn't have a 'go-to' shop. I do now! Wendy made the dress look amazing just when pinning it to get the sizing right. And had it stitched and beading repaired at the seams in just a week. She also got the wedding dress bag (with gussets for the big ole tulle skirt) that we needed to transport the dress to/from competitions. At the final fitting, she even tweaked the hook & eye at the top of the zipper. We'll definitely be back whenever we need alterations. I will not hesitate to recommend The Werk Shoppe. read more

Terrible experience here. If I could rate less than 1 star, I would. The woman who runs this shop (I think her name is Wendy) has incredibly poor customer service. She will tend to customers that come in after you do and strike up conversation with them leading to extended wait times, even though you were there first. She had a bridesmaid dress for 2 months and still managed to do a horrible job with MINOR alterations. She gave it an un-even hem, sewed the adjustable straps on BACKWARDS, and caused a HOLE in the top of the dress. I had to run the dress to a different tailor across town 2 days before the wedding to have the awful job fixed by someone else because the Werk Shop was "unavailable". The Werk Shop never acknowledged or apologized for the incredible INCONVENIENCE that she caused even though she had my dress for weeks on end. Instead, she gave me major attitude as if I was insulting her, even though her work was joke-worthy to begin with on something as important as a bridesmaid dress. I'll never be returning to this hack-shop. Save your TIME, MONEY, and CLOTHING by going somewhere else!!! There are plenty of other well-qualified tailors in the Rochester area! So, I had to get a pair of pants hemmed that I had recently purchased during a shopping excursion. I wanted to get it done before the holidays so I could start wearing them asap. I did a little bit of research on it becuase I haven't had alterations done in a while, so I really don't have a "got to" place for stuff like this. I decided to come here for a few different reasons. For starters, this place was closest to home. It was also the cheapest, along with having the best reviews! I was sold. Despite the fact that I am very familiar with downtown Rochester, I had a hard time finding this place both when dropping off and picking up. She's located on the second floor near Kruse and Meur on Main street. When I walked up, it was a small little shop and I think the lady that helped me was also the owner. My time here was quick and efficient, and I was in and out both times (dropping off and picking up) and the pants were ready as promised. Total bill for a hem? $11. Trust me, that's cheap! I called a few places and some people wanted up to $20 to do a simple hem. If I could have done it myself, I would, but I've never sewn a thing in my life and would probably destroy the pants even if I did. LOL Overall I would come back as I had a good experience here overall. The only thing is it's in kind of a busy district, so in the future it *might* deter me from coming back. But, her prices can't be beat, so that would probably offset the parking/location thing. Whatevers. I'm cool with it. Overall a great experience and I would recommend coming here in the future. read more

Tucked away, up a flight of stairs, is a small shop where miracles happen. We have had a few very complicated alterations done, seemed like we were creating a whole new garment, and each time it has been perfect. Stripes line up, plaids line up, hems are even, and stitching is secure. Turnaround time is good, typically a week or so for standard alterations. I normally don't leave reviews unless the business really left an impression. I was very happy with the service I received. I called short notice with a dress I needed altered for a wedding, and she said she could do it right on time. She ended up finishing it a day earlier than expected and charged on the low side of what she quoted. She did exactly what i asked for and the work was very well done. On top of that, she didn't have the correct amount of change, so she just gave me one of my $20's back and wasn't going to charge the full amount and trusted I would bring the rest the next time I brought something in (don't worry, I didn't take advantage of this nice gesture. The Werk Shoppe is amazing. To put it this way, my house is 2 minutes away from another alteration store, but I choose to drive 30 minutes because the Werk Shoppe does such a great job. I bought a pair of very expensive jeans, which fit me in the butt, but were way too long in the legs. Guess that's the price you pay for being short and not a size 2. She had them done in a week and the stitching was so good, it didn't even look like it had been worked on. Best part? It was only $10. read more

I was coming into town for my cousin's wedding and of course the zipper on my bridesmaid's dress broke the night before we were to make the 12-hour drive. I brought my dress in knowing there was only so much that could be done that last minute. Wendy immediately took a look and was able to get the zipper back on while literally standing at the front desk with only a seam-ripper in hand. She was able to get it to zip most of the way up but we all agreed not to push it because that's where it had broken before. Wendy refused to take any money!! Day of the wedding my cousin was able to zip it up to the top. I feel fortunate to have found Wendy and spoiled that she wouldn't let us pay a dime.
